1 INDUSTRY STANDARD BASE RAIL UNIVERSAL MOUNTING KIT PART NUMBER 2720 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Introduction The following steps provide general and vehicle-specific instructions for the installation of the Industry Standard Base Rail Universal Mounting Kit. 2 General Installation Instructions The following installation instructions will provide a general overview of how to position and mount the 5th wheel in the bed of the truck. Also included will be vehicle specific instructions for positioning the 5th wheel; however, it is the responsibility of the installer to confirm the validity of these specific locations. 1. Check the part quantities in the kit using the Parts List on page Block the front wheels of the vehicle and place jack stands under the frame so that the rear of the truck is high enough to allow the rear wheels to drop. This will give easy access to the frame area in the rear wheel well. 3. Using dimension B on page 3, locate the center of axle and place a mark on the frame. Next, using the vehicle-specific information on page and Figure 2 on page 3, position each frame bracket in their correct location. Check to ensure there is nothing on or behind the frame that would prevent you from installing the brackets in their correct location.. Using the Universal Mounting Kit Template (Part# ) and dimension D on page 3, determine the location of the mounting bolts and drill 1/16 holes through the bed. If you do not have a template, assemble the hitch and rails in the truck bed and use dimension D on page 3 with the vehicle-specific information on page to determine the correct location to drill the 1/16 holes. Note: The template and rails when installed are to be centered side-to-side in the truck bed. 5. Hold the brackets flat against the frame so that they line up with the 1/16 hole in the bed and check again to ensure they will fit correctly. Note: It might be helpful to leave the drill bit in place when lining up the slot in the brackets with the hole in the bed. If you have to make adjustments, be sure to keep the distance of the bed holes from front-to-back 22 on center, and parallel with the rear edge of the bed. 6. After you ve made any adjustments and determined the brackets can be mounted to the frame, drill out the 1/16 diameter holes to 3/. Be sure to clean up any metal shavings and treat the holes with a suitable rust inhibitor. 7. Assemble the hitch and rail assembly, including spacer blocks and bed spacers in the truck bed, and drop all mounting bolts through the rails, spacers, and bed. Reference Figures 3 and on page 3 for correct installation of spacer blocks and bed spacers. Note: The rear center bolts do not require spacers. Reference on page. 8. Place the mounting brackets against the frame and onto the installed mounting bolts. Hand-tighten so that the brackets are flat with the bottom of the bed and flush against the frame. If necessary, use a clamp to ensure the brackets are flush with the frame. Note: Some applications will require a bed spacer between the bracket and the bottom of the bed. Reference Figure 3 on page Move any electrical wires or fuel lines that might be in the way, and drill a 17/32" hole through the frame using the brackets as a template for the hole locations. Be careful not to drill into the gas tank and only drill through the outside of the frame for tube frame installations. Note: It is important that the holes are 17/32" diameter. If the holes are too small, the bolt can break. If the holes are too large the bolt cannot grip properly. 10. Fasten the Mounting Brackets to the frame using two 1/2 x 1-1/2 Spline bolts and two serrated flange nuts for each bracket. 11. With the hitch assembled on the rails, maximize the distance between the rails and tighten the mounting bracket bolts (1/2 bolts=75 ft. lbs. / 5/8 bolts=151 ft. lbs.). Maximizing the distance between the rails before tightening will reduce the amount of movement, giving you an even smoother, quieter ride. Be sure not to separate the rails so much that the hitch is difficult to take on and off the rails. 12. Fasten the center bolts using the Center Hole Shim underneath the bed for support. Note: The center bolts do not require spacer blocks or bed shims. Be sure not to crush the bed when tightening. The installation is now finished. 2

4 Vehicle Specific Instructions *All Installations are Center of Axle* Ford F250 &F350 Brackets Facing Out When installing the Bed Channel Spacer between the Mounting Bracket and the bed use the offset slot to avoid interference with the cross sill. (Reference figure 2). The front center bolt is required for 18K applications only Chevrolet/GMC 2500&3500. Driver Side Rear Frame bolts for the front mounting brackets must be fish wired into position with 1/2" Pull Wire. The front center bolt is required for 18K applications only Chevrolet/GMC 2500 & 3500 CAB CAB CAB 2. Passenger Side Rear 3. Driver Side Rear. Passenger Side Front. Driver Side Rear Frame bolts for the front mounting brackets must be fish wired into position with 1/2" Pull Wire. The bracket slots are sized for 5/8 bolts so be sure to use a 1/2" Harden Steel Washer between the slotted side of the mounting bracket and the flange nut. The front center bolt is required for 18K applications only.

5 Dodge 2500 & 3500 (Without Overload Supports) CAB. Drivers Side Rear Reference the outside slot install on figure 2 of page 3 when installing the 1/2" Hex Cap Screws through the front rails and bed. The bracket slots are sized for 5/8 bolts so be sure to use a 1/2" Harden Steel Washer between the slotted side of the mounting bracket and the flange nut. All frame bolts must be fish wired into place through an opening on the bottom of the frame. The front center bolt is required for 18K applications only. 5
