The RFT measures Road Force Variation and Lateral Forces (See page 27) found in the tyre when under load and presents a solution - something standard balancing and wheel alignment alone cannot do! 15 Wheel Balancing Vibration Issues The PROBLEM Road Force Variation - forces within the wheel assembly caused by either or a combination of: Varying stiffness in the tyre side wall as part of the manufacturing process Out of round rim Pull Issues The PROBLEM Lateral Force - the amount of left or right pull force created as the tyre rolls along the road, causing the vehicle to drift from the straight ahead. Why Road Force Balance? The DIAGNOSIS The Hunter Road Force Touch (RFT) Balancer takes the wheel assembly on a simulated road test, using a load roller. It identifies the stiff spot in the tyre and low spot on the rim. The DIAGNOSIS The Hunter Road Force Touch (RFT) Balancer using the load force roller measures and identifies the Lateral Force of the wheels. This is primarily created by the tyre conicity (the cone shaped effect) and hence the tyre pull, which cannot be detected during standard balancing or wheel alignment service. The SOLUTION! Force Matching by aligning the stiff spot of the tyre and the low spot of the rim using a tyre changer minimises the vibration giving the driver that original new car feel and ride! The SOLUTION! The RFT balancer suggests to the technician the best possible wheel fitment plan, countering the pull on each wheel assembly, enabling the pull to be reduced or eliminated. This completely unique and revolutionary rethink of wheel balance methodology has brought with it cost and labour saving benefits, delivering returns on investment. How SmartWeight works? Unlike standard balancing, which judges balance condition based on correction weight values, SmartWeight balancing uses the actual static and couple forces. It then compares the results to the individual tolerances, which directly addresses the source of vibration problems, resulting in the best possible balance. The first is applying a fixed tolerance to which the wheel is balanced to the displayed correction weight instead of the actual vibration force. The second limitation is that it applies the same tolerance to both static and couple imbalance forces. With most wheel assemblies this tolerance is too loose for static imbalance and too tight for the couple imbalance. This can result in the application of unnecessarily high amounts of correction weight and time wasted on repeat check spins.
