17 MAIN COMPONENTS OF SPRAYER MASTERFLOW SPRAY CONTROL Besides providing great sensitiveness and precision in the adjustments, it has basic functional characteristics in relation to conventional controls. - LEVERS OPERATION The levers can be operated through cables or electric switches. - FLOW PROPORTIONAL TO ROUTING Within a same working gear, even if the engine rotation is changed, the application rate per area sprayed remains unchanged. - KEEPS THE SAME PRESSURE ALONG THE WHOLE BOOM REGARDLESS OF NUMBER OF BOOM SECTIONS IN USE It has a system that allows to calibrate the return of each boom section and keep constant the pressure, regardless of the number of sections on or off. DIFFERENT CONTROL OPTIONS Your equipment can be equipped with one of the following spray controls. - MASTERFLOW spray control with cable actuation - MASTERFLOW spray control with cable actuation and JSC - MASTERFLOW spray control with electric actuation - MASTERFLOW spray control with electric actuation and JSC The instructions for the control calibration are practically the same, except for turning on and off the chemical flow to the booms, which can be made through cable or electric switch. Identify in the figures below which is the control installed in your sprayer and proceed as described in the section MAIN COMPONENTS OF SPRAYER - CALIBRATING THE MASTERFLOW SPRAY CONTROL. CABLE CONTROL CABLE CONTRO WITH JSC pressure regulator pressure gauge boom sections ELECTRIC CONTROL ELECTRIC CONTROL WITH JSC flow meter (for use with JSC) pressure regulator pressure gauge relief boom section NOTE: The JSC (JACTO SPRAYER CONTROL) is a flow controller that keeps the spraying volume (L/ha) always constant, regardless of speed fluctuations with or without change in the working gear, besides monitoring the spray application. ATTENTION In order to ensure longer life of the pressure gauge, after calibrating the sprayer, turn off the control, thus releasing the pressure, and close the pressure gauge valve. 17

18 MAIN COMPONENTS OF SPRAYER CALIBRATING THE MASTERFLOW SPRAY CONTROL To calibrate the working pressure, proceed as follows: CABLE CONTROL 01 - Engage the PTO and accelerate gradually until reaching 540 rpm Set all levers to turn on the chemical flow. (Fig. A) 03 - Turn the pressure regulator clockwise to increase the pressure in the circuit. Turn it counterclockwise to decrease the pressure in the circuit. NOTE: As a reference for the calibration, keep the pressure at 60 psi, for example. A ATTENTION : Set the presure regulator needle at the reference pressure to calibrate the boom sections (Ex. 60 psi). CALIBRATING THE CHEMICAL RETURN PRESSURE TO THE TANK 01 - Choose one of the boom sections and set the corresponding lever to turn off the chemical flow. 60 psi setting to turn off the flow to the boom section boom section off fig. B NOTE: Other levers must remain set to continue to spray. 18

19 MAIN COMPONENTS OF SPRAYER 02 - Check if there was fluctuation in the pressure registered on the pressure gauge (60 psi). If so, prodeed as follows: - Loosen the fixing screw. - Turn the grip clockwise all the way and then counterclockwise to set the pessure gauge needle at 60 psi. -Tighten the fixing screw. Take care not to change the grip position. pressure gauge (60 psi) fixing screw grip NOTE: Once the boom section is calibrated, set the lever back.the pressure must be the same as indicated previously on the pressure gauge (60psi), when this section nozzles are on. - Repeat the same operation on the other boom sections in order to keep constant pressure along the entire boom. ATTENTION: Do not change the engine rotation during the calibration. A change in the rotation will change the pressure on the nozzles and therefore their flow rate. CABLE CONTROL AND JSC To calibrate the pressure on the control with the JSC, the procedures are the same, except for pressure adjustment, which in this control is not manual but made through an electric system. PRESSURE ADJUSTMENT: - With the pump running at 540 rpm and the system energized, press the electric switch until obtaining the working pressure desired. For this operation, the "Automatic/Manual" switch of the JSC-5000 must be on the "Manual" position. pressure adjustment switch P flow meter - To calibrate the boom sections, proceed as described above. 19

20 MAIN COMPONENTS OF SPRAYER NOZZLE HOLDERS (MODELS: BIJET & QUADRIJET) The BIJET double nozzle holder is mounted with a cone and a flat fan nozzle made of ceramic. The QUADRIJET quadruple nozzle holder is mounted with two cone and two flat fan nozzles made of ceramic. Both nozzle holders have a nondrip valve which cuts the liquid flow once the pressure drops to 10 psi, thus preventing them from leaking. cone nozzle nozzle holder nondrip valve nozzle holder (1) 1 flat fan nozzle Positioning a nozzle: - The proper position of the nozzle is at 90º (vertical) in relation to the boom. To use the other nozzle, just turn the nozzle holder (1) 180º. Shutting a nozzle: - Just turn the nozzle holder to set both nozzles parallel to the boom (in the horizontal), 90 of a turn. Positioning a nozzle: - Loosen the nut (1) with two turns. Position the chosen nozzle and retighten the nut. Shutting a nozzle: - Loosen the nut (1) with two turns and turn the nozzle holder to 45º. Retighten the nut. NOZZLES The nozzles have the function to generate droplets and distribute them uniformly over the area being sprayed. Operating with pressure over that recommended by the manufacturer will decrease the nozzle's life, besides increasing drift, environmental contamination and and changes regarding the flow rate, angle and droplet size. The nozzles used in this sprayer are made of ceramic, a material very resistant to wear and chemical action. The nozzles are mounted as shown in the figures below. nozzle cap CONE NOZZLE: This nozzle is fitted into the nozzle holder through a screw cap, which fact allows to use it at high pressures. cone nozzle filter filter flat fan nozzle nozzle cap FLAT FAN NOZZLE: This nozzle is fitted into the nozzle holder through a quick fitting cap for more practicability in eventual maintenance, which fact allows to use it at pressure of up to 7 kgf/pol² (100 psi). 20

31 CHOOSING THE TRACTOR CHOOSING THE TRACTOR CONSIDERING THE LOAD TO BE TRANSPORTED Different working conditions lead us to adopt the following criterion for choosing the tractor: - Check the sprayer weight on the identification plate. - Check the tank capacity. Ex.: Sprayer weight (Advance 3000 AM-18) = 4, lb Tank capacity = gallons The tractor gross weight should be at least equal to the sprayer gross weight. Ex.: Sprayer net weight (Advance 3000 AM-18) = 4, lb Filled up tank = gallons (approximately 4, lb ) Sprayer gross weight = 11,023,1 lb Tractor gross weight = 5000 kg or more. For the sprayers with Vortex system (air assisted boom), also follow the table below that indicate the ideal tractor to work with these sprayers which are provided with a fan and, therefore, consume more power of the tractor's engine in relation to the ground declivity and the working speed that will be developed. Ground declivity 3.72 mph 6.21 mph Speed Tractor recommended power 10% 90 HP 115 HP 20% 110 HP 150 HP This table is just indicative. The value related to the tractor's power can range in other situations according to the tractor's weight, tire type, ground type among others. ATTENTION: In the above example, the recommended tractor should have minimal gross weight of 11,023.1 lb. NOTE: The above values are used as an orientation. The correct values must be obtained using real data of your equipment. 31

BOOMS POSITION - Through the hydraulic control, actuate the booms angular adjustment cylinder in order to set the booms in a position so as to provide a good, drift-free coverage. AIR FLOW CHANNEL This part directs the air flow and spray in a way so as to provide a good coverage, even on pretillage herbicides applications. The air flow channel must be adjusted in the spraying site, taking into account the folowing factors: - Treatment type (in pre- or post-emergence applications); - Wind speed; - Wind direction. wind direction Channel settings without wind wind direction 45

46 OPERATION AND ADJUSTMENTS SPRAY APPLICATION TECHNOLOGY A successful spray application does not depend only on a good sprayer or correct use of the chemicals but also on factors to be determined in the field under specialized orientation. Among these factors, some concepts should be part of a criterion of evaluation so that positive results may be attained within the pest control program. - Ideal time - Application rate - Safety - Good coverage IDEAL TIME The ideal time for spraying should be chosen according to the chemical product characteristics, as well as to the field conditions: - Infestation level of pests, diseases and weeds; - Infection level of diseases; - Growing stage of weeds; - Weather conditions. SAFETY When spraying your crops, you must make sure there will be no risk to people, animals and environment. Avoid spraying at hotter times, with humidity below 55% or under windy conditions. Do not allow the operator to handle chemicals and spraying machinery without the proper individual protective clothing. CORRECT APPLICATION RATE Any type of application requires that the rate be maintained during the whole spraying work. This will be possible when you have a good sprayer properly calibrated. This calibration can be obtained through practical methods or formulas. Please refer to the section OPERATION AND ADJUSTMENTS - CALIBRATING THE SPRAYER. GOOD COVERAGE You have a good coverage when the whole target is sprayed with uniform distribution, with no risk to the environment and with good results in the pest control. The application rate does not have influence on the treatment results. Therefore good coverages can be attained even with different rates, which may vary according to operational and regional factors. IMPORTANT! READ CAREFULLY AND FOLLOW STRICTLY THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE CHEMICALS MANUFACTURER'S LABEL. ALWAYS FOLLOW DIRECTIONS OF A TECHNICIAN WHEN HANDLING AND APPLYING CHEMICALS. ALWAYS MAKE SURE THE SPRAYER IS IN GOOD OPERATIONAL CONDITIONS BEFORE STARTING THE SPRAYING JOB AND EMPLOY A WELL TRAINED OPERATOR. 46

REMEMBER! You are responsible for the success of the application. CALIBRATING THE SPRAYER The sprayer can be calibrated through the formula below or through the calibrator bottle as shown in the next page. CALCULATING THE SPRAYING VOLUME GPM x 495 GPA = MPH x S Where: GPA : Application volume in gallons per acre GPM : Application volume in gallons per minute MPH : Tractor speed in miles per hour S : Nozzles spacing width in ft 495 : Conversion factor EXAMPLE: Row spacing: 1.64 ft Tractor speed: 4 mph Aplication volume in gallons per minute: 0.26 gpm at 150 psi(ja-2 nozzle). GPM x 495 GPA = MPH x S GPA = 0.26 x x 1.64 GPA = 21,37 gallons per acre ATTENTION The numbers shown in the above example are illustrative. The correct calibration should be done according to instructions of a technician of trust. 51

52 OPERATION AND ADJUSTMENTS CALIBRATING THE SPRAYER WITH THE CALIBRATOR BOTTLE BEFORE CALIBRATING THE SPRAYER BE SURE: - suction filter is clean. - hoses are not twisted or bored. - pressure regulator components (valve seat, valve and spring) are not worn or dirty. - pump is properly lubricated (oil level and grease) and has no leakage. - nozzles are of the same model, not worn, with correct flow rate and with clean strainers. AFTER CHECKING, PROCEED TO CALIBRATE AS FOLLOWS 1 - Mark off 50 meters or ft on the ground to be sprayer. 2 - Fill up the sprayer. 3 - Choose the working gear. 4 - Engage the PTO. 5 - Accelerate until reaching 540 rpm at the PTO. 6 - Start moving at least 5 meters or ft before the initial mark. 7 -Note the time it takes the tractor to move 50 meters or ft. 8 - On irregular ground, repeat this operation several times and take the average. 9 - Stop the tractor with the acceleration used to move the 50 meters, open the nozzles and adjust the pressure according to directions for the different types of nozzles: - Cone nozzles : from 45 to 200 psi - Flat fan nozzles : from 15 to 60 psi 10 - Use the calibrator bottle to collect the nozzle spray volume during the same time taken to move the 50 meters or ft, and read on the column corresponding to the nozzle spacing gallon gpa gpa 0.08 gallon gpa gpa 0 gallon 0 0 Volume in gallon 20 in in Nozzle spacing 11 - Repeat this operation with several nozzles to obtain an average volume. 12 -The average obtained will be the spray volume for the gear and pressure already determined. NOTE: 1-If the spray volume obtained is below that wished, increase the pressure, decrease the speed (but keep 540 rpm at PTO) or replace the nozzles by others of higher flow rate. 2-If the spray volume is above that wished, decrease the pressure, increase the speed (but keep 540 rpm at PTO) or replace the nozzles by others of lower flow rate. 52
