Keep your invoice with this manual. Write the invoice number on the inside of the front cover. Keep the manual and invoice in a safe and dry place for future reference. Safety Warnings and Precautions WARNING: When using tool, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of personal injury and damage to equipment. Read all instructions before using this tool!. Keep work area clean. Cluttered areas invite injuries. 2. Observe work area conditions. Do not use machines or power tools in damp or wet locations. Don t expose to rain. Keep work area well lighted. Do not use electrically powered tools in the presence of flammable gases or liquids. 3. Keep children away. Children must never be allowed in the work area. Do not allow children to handle machines, tools, or extension cords. 4. Store idle equipment. When not in use, tools must be stored in a dry location to inhibit rusts. Always lock up tools and keep out of reach of children. 5. Use the right Sprayer for the job. Do not attempt to force a small tool or attachment to do the work of a larger industrial tool. There are certain applications for which this tool was designed. It will do the job better and more safely at the rate for which it was intended. Do not modify this tool and do not use this tool for a purpose for which it was not intended. 6. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry as they can be caught in moving parts. Protective, electrically nonconductive clothes and nonskid footwear are recommended when working. Wear restrictive hair covering to contain long hair. 7. Use eye and ear protection. Always wear firm fitting ANSI approved impact safety goggles. Wear an ANSI approved dust mask or respirator when working around metal, wood, and chemical dusts and mists. Protect yourself from exposure to chemicals. When spraying be sure to wear a firm fitting mask over your nose and mouth. Wearing rubber gloves is recommended. Other protective clothing is also recommended. Always wear long sleeve shirt, long pants shoes and socks. When done spraying, wash your hands with antibacterial soap and water. 3 8. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance during assembly. Do not reach over or across running machines. 9. Maintain products with care. The handles must be kept clean, dry, and free from oil and grease at all times. 0. Check for damaged parts. Before using any product, any part that appears damaged should be carefully checked to determine that it will operate properly and perform its intended function. Check for alignment and binding of moving parts; any broken parts or mounting fixtures; and any other condition that may affect proper operation. Any part that is damaged should be properly repaired or replaced by a qualified technician. Do not use the tool if wand lever does not turn ON and Off properly.. Replacement parts and accessories. When servicing, use only identical replacement parts. Use of any other parts will void the warranty. Only use accessories intended for use with this item. Approved accessories are available from Harbor Freight Tools. 2. Stay alert. Watch what you are doing, use common sense. Do not assemble any product when you are tired. 3. Do not tool if under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Read warning labels if taking prescription medicine to determine if your judgment or reflexes are impaired while taking drugs. If there is any doubt, do not assemble the tool. 4. Maintenance. For your safety, service and maintenance should be performed regularly by a qualified technician. 5. Use only Recommended Chemicals. This sprayer is intended for use only with chemicals available to consumers (lawn spray chemicals, bug spray chemicals, etc.). Carefully follow the directions provided with the chemicals for safe operation. Do not spray any other materials, except water for cleaning. 6. Do not ingest chemicals. Do not smoke, drink or eat when using this sprayer or when in close proximity to chemicals. 7. Do not point Sprayer at people or animals. Never spray in the air; chemical residue can fall on people. Warning: The warnings, cautions, and instructions discussed in this instruction manual cannot cover all possible conditions and situations that may occur. It must be understood by the operator that common sense and caution are factors which cannot be built into this product, but must be supplied by the operator. Unpacking When unpacking, check to make sure the following parts are included. 4 Operation. Test the operation of the sprayer before use. Perform the following steps using water and check for proper operation before using pesticide or chemical mixture. 2. Remove the Tank Collar, observing the locking design built into this part. Remove the Pump Assembly from the Tank. Check to see that all gaskets are in place and in good condition. 3. Test the operation of the Pressure Relief Valve (9) by pulling it up until the red ring is visible. Do this a few times to assure that it operates freely. See Figure. 4. Pour in the prepared pesticide mixture, no more than approximately 2-/4 gallons. 5. Replace the Pump Assembly, into the Tank, and tighten the Tank Collar. Be sure that the locking design is properly engaged. 6. Pressurize the tank by pumping the Pump Handle (5) in a vertical motion until the red ring is barely visible on the Pressure Relief Valve. 5 Using the Telescoping Spray Wand. Loosen the Shaft Nut (20) on the Shaft (32). Extend the Shaft out to the desired length and tighten the Shaft Nut. Adjust the Spray Adjuster (2) to the desired radius of the spray. See Figures Press the Trigger (30) on the Handle Assembly (29). For continuous spray, press the Trigger Lock (3) when the Trigger (29) is in the down position. To unlock, press and release the Trigger Lock (3). Let up on the Trigger (30) to stop spraying. When you are done spraying, relieve the tank pressure by pulling the Pressure Relief Valve (9) (See drawing on Page 7) outward, and holding it as the pressure escapes. WARNING: Only perform this operation in a well-ventilated area. Some of the spray mixture may escape during this operation; protect your eyes and face. Be prepared to properly clean up any chemical that may be ejected while relieving the tank pressure in this process. 4. Only after the tank has been completely depressurized, can you remove the Tank Collar (See Figure on Page 4). Pour the remaining contents from the Main Tank (28) into a suitable container and store that material properly. 5. Refill the Main Tank (28) with a small amount of water, repressurize the tank, and spray the water in a safe area until all remaining chemical residue has been purged from the sprayer. 6. Depressurize the Main Tank (28). Remove the Tank Collar, and pour the remaining water out. Store your sprayer in a safe place, out of the reach of children. 6 Attaching the Fan Pattern Nozzle There is an additional Nozzle (34) that comes with your 2-/4 Gallon Sprayer. The parts needed to assemble that nozzle are in a small plastic bag. Figure 5 shows the order in which you should assemble the nozzle. Figure 6 shows the nozzle attached to the shaft (32) Figure 5 Figure 6 NOTE: When assembling the Nozzle make sure you place the flat side of the tip (35) is facing the outside of the nozzle (see Figure 5). Maintenance. Do not store your sprayer in strong sunlight, as this will damage the plastic. 2. Store your sprayer and all chemicals in a safe place, out of the reach of children. Never store chemicals in extreme heat. 3. Wash out the sprayer with water after each use. Be sure to pressurize and spray the water through the hose and nozzle to thoroughly clean it. 4. Lubricate the pump seals after each 2-3 uses. Add a few drops of motor oil to the Pump Rod (4), and pump several times. 5. Lubricate the Pressure Relief Valve (9) 2 or 3 times per year, or after spraying heavy fluids. Pull up the indicator, and apply 2-3 drops of motor oil or a small amount of grease. Move the indicator up and down several times to spread the lubricant. 6. DO NOT disassemble the Pressure Relief Valve (9), nor remove it from the Main Tank (28). This can damage the pressure indicator creating an unsafe condition. 7. Occasionally check the Flow Nipple Nut (4), Tank Collar and Pump Assembly () and tighten if necessary. This will improve the pressure tightness of the unit. 8. If it is not possible to pressurize the tank, check for leaks at the Compression Ring (6), Nipple (7), and Pressure Relief Valve (9). 9. If it is necessary to disassemble the pump, Pull the Pump Rod (4) all the way up, then rotate it clockwise (with effort) until the ears align with the slots and you can remove the rod from the assembly. 0. Reassemble by replacing the rod into the housing, and turn counterclockwise /2 turn. Be careful to keep the seals properly seated during this operation.. If there is a leak under Nozzle (24) in the sprayer, check to be sure that the sprayer or the jet nozzle is not clogged. If it is, first clear, and then tighten the Shaft Nut (20) slightly to compress the seal. REV 05/06 SKU For technical questions, please call Page 6
