SETTING THE SPRAYER The following must be performed to set the sprayer:. Check of the power take-off (PTO) speed.. Check of the advance speed.. Calculation of the flow rate of the nozzles of the equipment.. Check of the flow rate of the nozzles of the equipment. Checking power take-off and engine speed - Measure the power take-off speed using a tachometer. - Adjust the engine speed to obtain 540 rpm at the power take-off. - Identify the corresponding engine speed on the tachometer of the tractor dashboard: we recommend you put a mark (R) on the dial or record the value given by the digital readout. R Checking tractor advance speed - Measure 100 metres in a field. - Start in any gear, power take-off speed of 540 rpm running. - Measure the time taken to cover the distance Calculate the speed by applying the following formula: 100 meters Speed (in km/h) = 3,6 x Distance covered (en meter) Time taken (en seconds). Example: Distance = 100 meters Time taken = 62 seconds Speed = 3.6 x 100 = km/h rounded off to 5.8 km/h B MAXAIR 11
Calculating flow rates of nozzles of equipment Calculating the overall flow rate of the equipment per minute Equipment flow rate (l/min) = Volume (l/ha) x Speed (km/h) x Spraying width (m) 600. Example: Volume/ha = 500 l/ha Speed = 5,8 km/h Spraying width = 5 metres NOTE: Spraying width = planting distance. 500 x 5,8 x 5 Equipment flow rate = = 24,2 l/min 600 Determining the working pressure 1. Sprayer with FIXFLO or VARIFLO nozzle holders with grey ATR nozzles reference : - Calculate the flow rate per nozzle using the following formula: Nozzle flow rate (l/min) = Equipment flow rate (l/min) Number of nozzles - In the table on page 13, calculate the pressure corresponding to the closest value of the nozzle flow rate required.. Example: Sprayer with nozzle holder fitted with 10 grey ATR nozzles. Flow rate of equipment required: 24.2 l/min Nozzle flow rate = 24,2 = 2.42 l/min 10 By consulting the table on 13; 2.43 l/min can be obtained at approximately 14 bar. 2. Sprayer with TOREX nozzle (MAXAIR 240): - Calculate the flow rate per nozzle using the following formula: Nozzle flow rate (l/min) = Equipment flow rate (l/min) Number of nozzles - In the table on page 16, calculate the pressure corresponding to the closest value of the nozzle flow rate required.. Example: MAXAIR 240 sprayer with nozzle holder fitted with 8 TOREX nozzles. Flow rate of equipment required: 24.2 l/min Nozzle flow rate = 24.2 = 3.03 l/min 8 Consulting the table on page 16, a flow rate of 3.03 l/min can be used, i.e.: 1) Disks 10/10 - Narrow spray - Pressure 40 bar. 2) Disks 12/10 - Wide spray - Pressure 30 bar. 3) Disks 20/10 - Wide spray - Pressure 15 bar B MAXAIR
Checking flow rate of nozzles of equipment - Put the sprayer in the horizontal position. - Fill the tank. - Start the pump at 540 rpm and adjust the working pressure with the sections open. - Close the sections and top up using as a reference the bottom of the fixed collar of the cover. - Open the sections for one minute timed. - Top up to the mark using a graduated block to measures the quantity delivered by the nozzles. - If the flow rate measured is different to the flow rate required, calculate the new pressure in order to obtain the objective using the following formula: New pressure = Working pressure (Required flow rate) 2 (Accumulated flow rate) 2 - Perform another check of the flow rate from the nozzles to check that the quantity delivered corresponds to the flow rate required. ALBUZ ATR NOZZLES For FIXFLO or VARIFLO nozzle holders FIXFLO VARIFLO The FIXFLO and VARIFLO nozzles holders are fitted with ALBUZ ATR nozzles not requiring any seal to be assembled. Specifications of ATR nozzles: Spraying angle : 80. Material: Body : Polyacetate. Insert : Ceramic. Recommended pressure: 8 to 15 bar. 14 layout of ATR Nozzles The layout of the ATR nozzles is set in the factory in increasing order of flow rate from the lower nozzle holders to the upper nozzle holders. This layout can be reviewed to adapt the distribution of the flow rate to the shape of the trees to be sprayed thereby optimising the coverage. In this case, a general principle is to be adhered to (see figure below): Provide 20 to 25% of the flow rate through the nozzles positioned underneath the shaft of the propeller. Provide 75 to 80% of the flow rate through the nozzles positioned above the shaft of the propeller. 24 HANDWASH TANK (figure 11) - Hygiene and comfort: a 18-litre clean water tank, independent from the rinsing tank, allows you to wash your hands or any other part of your body (face, eyes,...) that may have come in contact with the product. - Positioned in front of the sprayer, the tap (2) is easily accessible. - Washing, by opening the tap (2) more or less according to the required flow rate. It is ESSENTIAL for the handwash tank to be filled with clean water, through the lid (1), without any pressure. RINSING TANK (figure 12) - A 28-litre clear water tank, independent of the main tank, permits the rinsing of this one - Located on the right hand side and under the main tank, its lid (1) is easy accessible. It is ESSENTIAL for the rinsing tank to be filled with clean water, through the lid (1), without any pressure. STIRRING HYDRAULIC STIRRING - The pump has a fixed flow rate. This flow permits the boom's supply, the excess returning to the tank by the regulator. It is this excess flow that ensures the hydraulic stirring. FOAMING INTO THE TANK - If this occurs, reduce the PTO revs to less than 540 rpm or add an anti-foaming additive to the contents of the tank when filling. Do not add fuel oil to the spraying mixture as an anti-foaming agent. LAST FILLING OPERATION - When filling the tank for the last time, add only the amount of water and chemical necessary to spray the remaining area. Draining the tank (figure 13) - Open the drain orifice using valve (1) which is located on the left hand side of the sprayer B MAXAIR

MAINTENANCE OF THE SPRAYER Regular sprayer monitoring. Precautions to be taken during frost. Parking. Protection against oxidising agents. Mandatory inspection of Sprayers. See manual No "Sprayers safety, checks and maintenance" B MAXAIR 29
PRACTICAL RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE SERVICING OF YOUR SPRAYER - By cleaning your sprayer regularly during and at the end of treatment seasons: You will avoid spraying chemical residues on the crops. You will ensure a good distribution of the product, while eliminating total or partial blockage of the nozzles. You will increase your sprayer's life. Carry out the sprayer's maintenance operations with the tractor's engine switched off, the ignition off and the power take-off released. CHECKS BEFORE SPRAY SEASON Filter: - Make sure that the suction filter is clean and in good condition. Pipes: - Look for any leaks, check for kinks in the pipes. Seals and fittings: - Check to ensure that nuts and connectors are tightened, change the seals if necessary. Pump: - Check the oil level. Discs: - To change the discs once per year or when their flow rate is 10 to 15% greater than their initial flow rate. To do this, use the FLOW TEST - BERTHOUD reference , or the FLOW RATE GAUGE - BERTHOUD reference Tank: - Check that there is no foreign matters inside the tank. MAINTENANCE AFTER OPERATION - It is important to rinse the outside of the spray as well as the tractor. This cleaning operation should be repeated during the day between applications of different products. PROCEDURE - Remove the filters. - Fill the tank to 20 % full with water and add detergent (All Clear EXTRA reference , 5-litre can). - Operate the sprayer for a short period. - Rock the sprayer by moving the tractor forward and backward with a view to agitation water into the tank. - Leave mixture to act for hours. - Start the agitation and move the tractor forward and backward several times, then drain using the drain valve. - Put some clean water in tank. - Rinse with clean water. - Remove all discs and filters, and clean them. - Reassemble B MAXAIR
WINTER STORAGE - The sprayer should be wintered in a clean condition (see chapter "Maintenance after operation"). - Rinse the circuit completely (with a cleaning product All Clear EXTRA reference ; 5-litre can). - Drain the tank. - Rinse with clear water. - Completely drain the liquid circuit, making sure that the pump is not operated too long without water (2 minutes maximum). - Protect against the frost, using sufficient antifreeze into the tank (BERTHOUD reference All Winters product). - Start the pump slowly. - Operate all the valves so as to protect the pump, valves, control valve, filters and pipes. - Start spraying so as to supply antifreeze onto the boom. When the antifreeze reaches the nozzles, stop the spraying and disengage the power take-off. - Grease all mechanical parts that can be rust. - Deoxidize the contacts on the power plugs (BERTHOUD reference the KF F2 aerosol). - Clean the outside of the machine (with a cleaning product All Clean reference ; 5-litre can), paint the mechanical parts exposed (BERTHOUD reference for the blue paint aerosol or for the green paint aerosol). - Garage the machine out of the sunlight and protected against inclement weather and on flat, load-bearing ground. Discs OR FILTERS DIRTY - Clean and rinse dirty filters or discs using a brush and water. To do this, use the brush/wrench BERTHOUD reference Never blow into a disc. CLEANING THE VANNOFILTER (figure 16) - The vannofilter is fitted with a check valve. - The filter (mesh 6/10) can be cleaned even when the tank is full. - To remove the filter, put the spindle in position (1) (closed, the tank is isolated). - Undo the star knob (3). The filter is accessible. - After cleaning, put the spindle back in position (2) (open) B MAXAIR 31

SAE 30 oil for APS 51 pump 2-litre can, BERTHOUD reference GAMA 82 pump (figure 19) - The level must reach the notch located on the gauge (1). - Item 2: Complete drainage of the pump. - Oil capacity for a GAMA 82 pump = 1.25 litre. BERTHOUD HP 82 oil, 2-litre can, reference Only use this oil, otherwise the guarantee will not be considered as being respected. PTO SHAFT - For each use: GREASE + TUBES. ELF EPEXA 2 or grease MOBILUX EP2. - Important recommendations: - It is preferable to carry out drainage when the sprayer has just been in operation. The oil is more fluid and flows more easily. - To grease a point equipped with a lubricating nipple, clean the latter first. - For components not equipped with lubricating nipples, remove the used grease. - We recommend that you always use the same oil and grease. - When lubricating the PTO shaft, take care to comply with the manufacturer s instructions. Change the oil during each spraying campaign B MAXAIR
