1 FILE: SERVICE: GROUP 00 OF SERVICE INFORMATION BINDER PARTS: GROUP I OF INFORMATION _ PARTS & ACCESSORIES BINDER Campaign No , August 2008 Revision Date Purpose B 8/26/08 Work procedure revised to indicate proper positioning of hose clamp A 03/14/08 Addition of customer reimbursement information 03/07/08 Initial issue TO: ALL MERCEDES-BENZ CENTERS SUBJECT: MODEL /740, MODEL YEARS REPLACE ENGINE VENT HOSES This Service Campaign has been initiated because Daimler AG has determined that the engine vent hose on subject vehicles may not conform to specifications. Cracks may develop in the vent hose over time and in the worst case result in a rough running engine. Dealers will replace the engine vent hose on the affected vehicles during the next workshop visit. Prior to performing this Service Campaign: Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously repaired. Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin and follow the procedure steps exactly as described. Please note that Recall and Service Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator. Approximately 78,497 vehicles are affected. Order No. This bulletin has been created and maintained in accordance with MBUSA-SLP S423QH001, Document and Data Control, and MBUSA-SLP S424HH001, Control of Quality Records.

2 2 Procedure 1. Remove supercharger/compressor (AR09.50-P-4705QK). Note (regarding referenced WIS document): Special tool (flexible head wrench set) is not available from the Mercedes-Benz Special Tools program. Flex head E10 torx socket, which is commercially available from your local tool vendor (e.g., Snap-On etc), can be used. 2. Replace bottom partial load vent hoses (A, Figure 1) along with check valve (B): Ensure check valve (B) is properly installed: Arrows (Figure 1) must point towards cylinder head. Figure 1

3 3 3. Replace top partial load vent hose (A, Figure 2): Ensure that installation position of top partial vent hose (A) is correct: Hose (A) is not kinked or pinched. Do not install hose clamp (arrow, Figure 2) on collar of valve or hose will be damaged (refer to Figure 3 for proper positioning of click type hose clamp). Do not use worm/screw type hose clamps: Use only new click type hose clamp (arrow, Figure 2) where hose (A) connects to nozzle. 4 4 4. Replace remaining vent hose (A, Figure 5). Connect smaller end of vent hose (A) to fitting under air cleaner assembly (B) before securing air cleaner to engine. The opposite end is connected to fitting (arrow) on valve cover. 5. Reinstall remaining components in reverse order. Note (regarding referenced WIS documents): Fuel injector O-rings must be replaced. Apply tire mounting lubricant (shop supply) to air cleaner mounts on engine. 6. Read out fault memory and erase. Figure 5 Primary Parts Information Qty. 5 5 Please be aware that only the part number(s) referenced in the Campaign Bulletin is/are approved for use to repair the vehicle. Repairs performed using any other part(s) will not have been performed in accordance with the campaign. Accordingly, warranty claims submitted with reference to an improper part number(s) will be denied. Model Indicator(s) Q1, Q NOTE REGARDING CUSTOMER REIMBURSEMENT Reimbursement to customers for repairs performed prior to this campaign: If the customer already paid to have this service campaign condition repaired and provides adequate documentation to support their claim of a non-warranty repair of this item, they may be eligible to receive reimbursement. Requests for reimbursement may include parts, labor, fees and taxes. Reimbursement is limited to the amount the repair of the vent hoses would have cost if completed by an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer under this campaign. Submit a warranty claim, utilizing Damage Code as a sublet, utilizing the sublet code of SUB. Sublet repairs require dealer text as stated in the Warranty Policies and Procedures Manual. Repair date should be the date that the customer paid for the repair. Please note the claim submitted for customer reimbursement will not close the campaign (if still open).if the customer is still in possession of the vehicle with an open campaign, please arrange to close the campaign in the usual manner as described in this bulletin.
