4 RIGHT-ANGLE GEARMOTORS The new right-angle design PowerSTAR gearmotor combines the latest technology in hypoid gearing with Bison s long-established reputation of providing best-in-class power transmission solutions under our Robusticity design philosophy. PowerSTAR features hypoid gearing manufactured using technology exclusive to Bison to offer several operational advantages; including higher torque capability, quieter operation and unmatched energy efficiency. Bison s PowerSTAR-X reducer is the newest addition to the high efficiency, high power PowerSTAR product line. The PowerSTAR-X features a helical bevel gear design for maximum energy efficiency, comes standard supplied with synthetic oil for lifetime lubrication and is comprised of an aluminum housing that is designed for multiple mounting configurations. Higher quality components means more dependable performance, fewer field failures, up to 200% more torque than typical - leading to a lower cost per inch-pound of torque, a more compact product and longer service life. Precision Gearing Fully automated gear hobbing using carbide cutting tools ensures the balance you are looking for: smooth, quiet, chatter-free gearing. No thermoplastic gears used - only extra wide and hardened all metal gearing. Integral pinions are the strongest in the industry, capable of 200% shock loading. Maximized Design Precision bearings, heat treated gears and ground seal journals maximize life while minimizing audible noise levels. Heat treated output shafts are supported in needle bearings for excellent life and overhung load capacity - all in a compact package. Die Cast Aluminum Housings Bison s precision machined cast aluminum housings boast heavy duty reinforcement, and extra thick walls for greater integrity - despite the fact that it s lighter and stronger than zinc! A high-gloss black powder coat paint finish is then baked on for durability and superior appearance. Optimized Bearing System Only efficient needle and ball bearings are used for optimum efficiency and maximum design life. Thrust ball bearings are used at axially loaded pressure points. Oil Bath Lubrication Bearing and gear life are maximized with oil bath lubrication. Many competitors choose grease, but Bison chooses oil - it is simply the best lubrication to maximize load capacity and gear life. Perfect Pitch Line Bison s gears are sure to stay on pitch line with gear centers machined on automated mills. Precision gear centers are essential to minimize noise levels, and maximize motor life. All Position Mounting Bison offers the convenience of complete drop-in mounting interchangeability with other product lines. Plus, Bison s gear motors are non-vented allowing for all position mounting. Premium Sealing System We heat-treat and grind our motor and output shafts, creating a smooth, perfectly round and hard surface for our spring loaded lip type seals. PMDC Drive Options Most PMDC units are designed to operate with low cost unfiltered SCR, filtered SCR, PWM and regen controls. Ready to Run - and Stop! Bison makes things go, but did you know that we can also put on the brakes? AC units come standard with brake shaft extensions. Armature shafts on DC units are tapped to accept standard optical encoders.
