1 2004 Spring Barley Variety Release and Recommendation Motions submitted by Dr. Tom Blake and Patrick Hensleigh motion supported by data in tables A motion that "Eslick" be recommended as a feed barley in districts 1-6 under dryland and irrigated conditions effective February Eslick is a two rowed rough awned feed barley that was tested as MT from in Montana trials. The initial cross was made between Stark and Baronesse in 1991, F 1 plants were planted and harvested in 1992 and single heads from F 2 populations were harvested in Single seed descent in the ABS Plant Growth Center was utilized in to advance two generations and F 5 head rows were harvested in F 6 two row plots were selected in 1995 based on various agronomic and quality characteristics. MT was entered in the preliminary yield trial in 1996, the early yield trial in 1997, the intrastate trials from , and the dryland off station trials from Eslick is a high yielding feed barley that has performed well under dryland and irrigated conditions in Montana trials from Yields have been similar to Baronesse and Haxby and higher than Gallatin and Valier over 63 Montana intrastate trials from 1998 to Test weights of Eslick are higher than Harrington, similar to Baronesse, but lower than Haxby and Gallatin. Eslick is similar to Harrington in heading date and plant height. It is later in heading date and is shorter than Gallatin. Approximately 140 bushels of Breeders seed was produced at the Post Farm in
