2 Bushfire attack level New ratings for building and construction The Building Code of Australia (BCA), and the amended Australian Standard AS have established updated building and construction requirements for bushfire-zoned areas. AS outlines different construction practices and building materials for six bushfire hazard levels, known as Bushfire Attack Levels (s). To determine your home's rating and any special requirements for building in your area, consult your local council, government or local fire authority. Sizes other than those shown may be available. (Limitations may apply) Different Bushfire Attack Levels may be specified for each elevation of the building. All windows and doors tested to AS are restricted to a maximum glass area of 2.4m² per lite and have a height restriction of 3m. Special silicone seals required at -40. Screens are required on all window opening panels at all bushfire attack levels. In South Australia aluminium mesh screens are not acceptable for -19 and -29. All screens at -40 must be stainless Our standard windows and doors have been tested to meet and -19. Specifically designed windows and doors have been tested to meet -40. These cedar products can be used for -29 following the -40 tested specifications. Very Low There is a risk of ember attack. The construction elements are expected to be exposed to a heat flux not greater than 12.5 kw/m². There is a risk of ember attack and burning debris ignited by wind borne embers and a likelihood of exposure to radiant heat. The construction elements are expected to be exposed to a heat flux not greater than 19 kw/m². Low Moderate FZ There is an increased risk of ember attack and burning debris ignited by wind borne embers and a likelihood of exposure to an increased level of radiant heat. The construction elements are expected to be exposed to a heat flux not greater than 29 kw/m². There is a much increased risk of ember attack and burning debris ignited by wind borne embers, a likelihood of exposure to a high level of radiant heat and some likelihood of direct exposure to flames from the fire front. The construction elements are expected to be exposed to a heat flux not greater than 40 kw/m². There is an extremely high risk of ember attack and burning debris ignited by wind borne embers, and a likelihood of exposure to an extreme level of radiant heat and direct exposure to flames from the fire front.
