2 Poly Flex Flexible Disc Transmission Couplings Provides a damper between the gearbox and propeller shaft to isolate torsional vibration from engine and gearbox. Dampens the noise and vibration from propeller shaft. Reduces the shock of forward and reverse gears. Works in conjunction with the engine mounts by providing the softest element in the shaft assembly to improve performance. Acts when overloaded by running aground of knotting a rope around the shaft by shearing at a designed point to protect the engine/gearbox and the boat. Manufactured and tested by Poly Flex Group with over 25 years experience and hands on control of all stages of the manufacturing process. Available with DNV, (Det Norske Veritas) type approval upon request for vessels in survey. All Poly Flex couplings electrically isolates the engine/transmission from the propeller and shaft. All steel parts are gold passivated zinc plated. As with normal engineering practice, Poly Flex applies the following rules for the working torque rating for flexible disc coupling applications. 85% 75% 50% The Pleasure Craft Rating relates to applications such as: pleasure craft - planning hulls where full throttle operation will be less than 5% of total operational time. The Intermediate Rating relates to applications such as: Pleasure or commercial craft - planing or semi-displacement hulls. Such as Patrol Boats, Fishing Charter Boats, etc. The Continuous Rating relates to applications such as: commercial craft - heavy displacement and semi-displacement hulls in commercial operation. Such as Trawlers, Ferries, etc. The published Poly Flex documentation for the torque rating always quotes the most conservative continuous torque rating, but each individual application should be assessed on the vessel design and operating conditions to determine the most appropriate rating to be applied. The relationship between the published Continuous Ratings and Intermediate and Pleasure ratings is: Intermediate Rating = 1.5x Continuous Rating Pleasure Rating = 1.7x Continuous Rating

4 'Important Notes on Coupling Selection' The information contained in the following tables are to be used as a GUIDE ONLY. Poly Flex takes no responsibility whatsoever for any selection from these tables. These tables represent only a sample of the marine transmissions available, and due to changing OEM. specifications it is necessary to check all dimensions and specifications (as below) to ensure the suitability of the coupling selection. If your particular application is not shown in these tables, contact Poly Flex for advice on the coupling required Poly Flex will need the following information to enable the selection of the most suitable coupling: 1. Make, model and rated horsepower of the engine. 2. Make, model and reduction of the transmission. 3. The output flange specifications of the transmission - including all of the following:- - The number, diameter and angular position of the flange bolt holes. - The pitch circle diameter of the flange bolt holes. - The type(male or female) and diameter of the flange spigot. - and also if there are any obstructions (eg: oil pump) near the output flange. If so, an 'Adaptor' will need to be fitted. Adaptors are also required when a differential bolt pattern and/or bolt size needs to be accomodated. eg: if the transmission output flange has 10 x bolt holes on the pcd. - but the appropriate coupling has 8 x bolts on the pcd. Adaptors shall be manufactured by competent persons, from '1040 grade steel' or equivalent and machined to the correct industry tolerances. It should be noted that Poly Flex couplings electrically isolate the engine and transmission from the propeller and shaft. All Poly Flex couplings are manufactured from engineering grade, heat cured polymer alloy. As this material is a thermoplastic, there may be dimensional changes from those specified, depending on ambient temperature conditions. All poly Flex products are subject to ongoing development, therefore specifications are subject to change without notice.
