These units have a proven record of long-lasting, efficient operation in material conveying, dust & fume removal, mechanical draft & handling of hot air a& industrial process gases. Ruggedly constructed of heavy gauge all-welded steel, these units are built I various AMCA standard drive arrangements and to individual special requirements of original equipment manufacturers. They are available in four variations of wheel design. 2

3 Wheels and Arrangements Type M Wheel Popular selection for efficient handling of air containing granular materials; sawdust, grain, dust and particle-laden industrial process air or gas. Arrangement Available in all sizes. Externally mounted motor. Operating temperature is limited to 800 o F Type L Wheel Constructed the same as the Type M wheel, but with no front plate. This allows passage of larger materials through the wheel such as wood shavings, paper strips, textile scrap, wool and ensilage. Arrangement 9 Available in sizes 07 through 29. Motor mounted on bearing pedestal, left hand, right hand or top positions. Operating temperature is limited to 600 o F. Arrangement 4 Available in sizes 07 through 2. Direct Drive. Wheel mounted on motor shaft extension. Operating temperature is limited to 80 o F. Not available with Type O wheel. Type A Wheel Designed for higher efficiency air handling of fumes, gases or air containing fine particles. Arrangement 8 Available in all sizes. Direct Drive through flexible coupling integral bearing and motor pedestal. Arrangement 0 Available in sizes 07 through 26. Motor mounted inside frame. Operating temperature is limited to 600 o F. 3

F o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o Procedure for using Correction Factors The density of air at 70 o F and barometric pressure (sea level) is.075 lbs./cu. ft. and all fan performance tables shown herein have been developed at this standard density. When either temperature or barometric pressure deviates from the above, a change in density obviously results, thus changing fan BHP requirements (system capacity and pressure requirements being fixed by design conditions). In order to use standard performance tables to determine correct BHP when installation environment involves either or both non-standard temperature and barometric pressure, the following density correction factor table has been developed through applicable physical laws. Example: Use of correction factor table. Requirement: An industrial fan to deliver 9640 CFM at 8 SP at 450 o F and 4000 ft. above sea level. Data needed to fill requirements: Fan size, BHP and RPM. () From the table above, the correction factor for 450 o F and 4000 ft. above sea level is 2.0. (2) 8 SP (Design S.P.) x 2.0 equals 6 S.P. (S.P. corrected to 70 o F at sea level). Select from performance table a blower to deliver 9640 CFM at 6 S.P. Best selection indicates a No. M2 industrial fan, Type I.E. at 59 RPM and BHP () Correct BHP by dividing BHP by 2.0. This equals 9.66 BHP (correct for 450 o F at 4000 ft. altitude). Recommended selection: Peerless Electric Industrial Fan, Size M2: Capacity 9640 CFM, S.P. 8, Temperature 450 o F, Altitude 4000 ft., 59 RPM and 9.66 BHP. Note: Caution should be exercised in selecting the motor sizes for operating fans handling high temperature air. If the operation of the system is such that there is a build-up period starting with lower temperature air, this will result in the fan requiring more horsepower during that period and a motor size should be selected for the most severe condition. 5 CONSTRUCTION FEATURES General Housings are made of prime steel plate, continuously welded, and rigidly braced. Wheels are made of heavy steel plate, all welded and dynamically balanced. Standard paint finish is baked enamel over phosphatize-cleaned steel. Various corrosion resistant coatings are available refer to Peerless Electric Catalog No Special Paints and Protective Coatings. Static and Dynamic Balancing Completed wheel assemblies of all sizes are statically and dynamically balanced on electronically controlled balancing machines. The necessary weights are arc welded into place so that the wheel will always stay in balance. After complete blowers are assembled, they are all given a running-in inspection and again examined for balance by a portable electronic balancing unit. Inspectors add balance weights to the wheel if necessary to pass a very rigid inspection requirement. Standard Duty Construction This construction includes standard wheel, housing, shaft and bearing.. All wheel types good for a maximum tip speed of 5,000 FPM. M Wheels only are good for maximum tip speed of 8,500 FPM in standard duty construction with heavy duty shaft and bearings. Heavy Duty Construction This construction is available only with the M type wheels and is used for exceptional abrasive conditions. This includes heavy duty wheel, housing, shaft and bearing with a maximum operating limit of 5,000 FPM tip speed. BEARINGS Industrial Blowers are equipped with selfaligning single row ball bearings, double row spherical roller one-piece and twopiece housings. Computerized selections have been made on all bearings based on radial, thrust and combined loads to give 00,000 average life hours (AFBMA L 50 ) at the maximum design of each blower class. Bearings selected have effective seals to retain the lubricant and to prevent against contamination. All have grease fittings for re-lubrication. Bearings are available for 400,000 average life hours (AFBMA L 50 ). For high temperature application, the inboard bearing is protected by a cast aluminum heat slinger at system air temperatures of 250 o F to 800 o F, with both bearings furnished with hitemp grease. Above 800 o F consult factory. Standards adopted for spark-resistant fans AMCA Standard Spark Resistant Type A: AMCA Standards require that all parts of the fan in contact with the air or gas being handled shall be made of non-ferrous material. Spark Resistant Type B: AMCA Standards require that the fan to have the wheel and ring about the opening through which the shaft passes of non-ferrous material. Ferrous hubs, shafts and hardware are permitted. Fans for this condition are furnished with a non-ferrous wheel (except hub and hardware) and a non-ferrous shaft seal around the shaft opening. Spark Resistant Type C: AMCA standards require the fan to be so constructed that a shift of the wheel or shaft will not permit two ferrous parts of the fan to rub or strike. Fans for this condition will be furnished with a non-ferrous inlet cone and rubbing plate around the shaft opening. Note: For all type spark resistant fans, the user shall electrically ground all fan parts. Either A or B construction conforms to requirements of National Board of Fire Underwriters Pamphlet No. 9 for Fans handling flammable vapors. Bearings shall not be placed in the air or gas stream. A non-ferrous material shall be any material with less than 5% iron or other material with demonstrated ability to be spark resistant. The use of these constructions in no way implies a guarantee of safety for any level of spark resistance. Spark resistant construction does not protect against ignition of explosive gases caused by catastrophic failure or from any airstream material that may be present in a system. Spark-proof construction available for SWSI units in arrangements, 2, 8, 9, and 0 only. 5
