Holinger, C.L. Jackson, Jesberg, Forbes, and Roberts for examination, diagnostic procedures, and removal of foreign bodies in the esophagus. These fiberoptic scopes have been designed for ease of insertion. A variety of sizes and configurations are offered to meet the patient s specific needs. 2 Esophagoscopes JACKSON FIBEROPTIC Designed by Dr. C.L. Jackson, these standard and full lumen model esophagoscopes are of round tube construction and feature the following: Non-traumatic distal tip Proximal flare Non-glare interior weight Teardrop indicator-handle 15 proximal extension JACKSON FIBEROPTIC MODEL In the standard model, both the light carrier channel and aspirating tube are built into the wall of the instrument, partly outside the tube and partly in the tube lumen on opposite sides of the main tube x x x x x x x x INCHES

3 FULL JACKSON FIBEROPTIC FULL MODEL In the full lumen model, both the light carrier channel and aspirating tube are outside the main tube, providing a full circle lumen. They are placed side-by-side to keep the overall diameter as small as possible x x x x

4 P P 7 JACKSON FIBEROPTIC OVAL MODEL In the oval model, the distal end is slightly flared to form a blunt, smooth edge without increasing the bulk of the tip unnecessarily. The light carrier is placed on the right side of the tube so that the cord is directed away from the hand of the operator. 6 PILLSBURY-JESBERG The Pillsbury-Jesberg Esophagoscopes were designed with the light carrier fully incorporated into the textured handle. With this improved design, there is built-in protection for the light carrier during normal handling. 9 FULL FORBES ESOPHAGEAL SPECULA These specula are used for the retrieval of foreign objects lodged in the cervical esophagus. The lumen of these instruments is slightly off the round and the tube tapers gradually to the distal end. The length of the bevel of the tip varies according to the size of the instrument.
