12 Inserts - principles Protection against Non AP threats - Lead and Mild Steel Cores Principle : during impact the bullet core deforms, the plate delaminates and the bullet stops in the plate. The plate can be used ICW or SA. Example of Ammunitions : 7,62 x 51 M80 7,62 x 39 AK 47 MSC (Kalashnikov) Plates are multi hit (6 shots AK47 MSC on a 250x300 insert) Protection against AP Threats Hard core ammunition Principle : the hardcore bullet strikes the ceramic plates and breaks apart. the backing material will stop all the fragments created (core & ceramic) Example of Ammunitions : 5,56 x 45 SS109 7,62 x 39 AK 47 API BZ (Kalashnikov) 7,62 x 54R API B32 (Dragunov) APM2 Plates are not always multi hit despite they should (1 shot APM2 but not always 6 shots AK47MSC)
13 Inserts - configurations Plates in Conjunction Principle : the plates work in conjunction with a bullet proof jacket, usually of a NIJ level IIIA. The bullets can be stopped :. In the plate (in this case the BPJ is used as antitrauma). In the vest (the BPJ has both a ballistic and antitrauma action) All TenCate inserts are designed to provide Stop in the plate performances.
