5 9. DRIVING MANNER en ROUTE. As a result of severe and dangerous obstruction caused by slow moving trailers closely following riders, the Police Authorities have insisted that, in the interests of safety, we take some positive action to stop it The flow of motorcycles does not in itself create a problem, It is the practice of some tender vehicles closely following and sticking with a slow moving rider which presents the greatest danger to other riders, who wish to pass, and unacceptable congestion for other road user. Again this year as previously we have asked the Police to stop and report to us the details of those found guilty of this practice and the riders concerned will be disqualified and may be banned from future runs Those who persist may well find themselves prosecuted for obstruction. Cars with trailers moving with the mainstream of traffic cause few problems and tender crews could ease the situation by either by-passing the main route, joining it at pre-arranged check-points, or by intelligently leap frogging down the route and parking in lay-byes. To help prevent congestion through Handcross village, TENDER DRIVERS are asked to not park in the village. Entrants are strongly urged to instruct the driver of their tender vehicle to follow the alternative route from the A23/A27 intersection on the outskirts of Brighton. A separate route card will be provided. Following complaints after the 2015 event, where some riders had cut up cars by not observing road rules at roundabouts, riders should be aware that if reported for a similar offence they will be excluded from future events. The future of the Pioneer Run is very much in the hands of the riders. The organisers hope they and their teams will take some trouble to responsibly pre-plan their activities to cause minimum hassle for everyone. 10. RIDING SAFETY. It is vitally important that if you break down you MUST get your machine off the Highway, preferably onto the hard shoulder, pavement or bank, out of the traffic stream where you can safely work on it or wait to be picked up. This is particularly pertinent in narrow lanes and where the traffic stream is heavy. It is NOT acceptable to block your side of the road with a machine being worked on or waiting to be picked up. It is hazardous to put yourself in a position where traffic has to deviate to avoid you, sometimes with little warning. 3.
6 11. AWARDS. a) Start To every rider who signs on, a commemorative lapel badge. b) Finish To every rider who completes the course, a bronze Pioneer medallion.
