1 European Kawasaki Z Cup Technical Rules
2 The following rules are intended to permit limited changes to the homologated motorcycle in the interest of safety. EVERYTHING THAT IS NOT AUTHORISED AND PRESCRIBED IN THIS RULE IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN If a change to a part or system is not specifically allowed in any of the following articles, then is forbidden European Kawasaki Z-Cup motorcycles must be the Kawasaki model code ZR900BHF, black color form year 2017 version. All motorcycles must comply in every respect with all the requirements for road racing as specified in these Technical Regulations, unless they are equipped as such as the homologated model. 1.1 Motorcycle specifications All parts and systems not specifically mentioned in the following articles must remain as originally produced by the manufacturer for the homologated motorcycle. As the category is based on single model from a single manufacturer, the main technical changes from the homologated motorcycle, are related to the official kit parts assy created by Kawasaki Motors Spain, described in the following articles. 1.2 Eligible Machines The class will be based around the Kawasaki Z900 model (ZR900BHF) sold by Kawasaki Motors Spain (from now KMES) by his dealer network. 1.3 Minimum weight At any time of the event, the weight of the whole motorcycle (including the tank and its contents) must not be lower than TBC There is no tolerance on the minimum weight of the motorcycle. During the final technical inspection at the end of the race, the selected motorcycles will be weighed in the condition they finished the race, and the established weight limit must be met in this condition. Nothing may be added to the motorcycle. This includes all fluids. During the practice and qualifying sessions, riders may be asked to submit with this request. The use of ballast is not 1.4 Numbers and plates The background colors and figures (numbers) are white background with black numbers. As the base background decals and figures are provided by KMES, the sizes are not allowed to be modified. The allocated number (& plate) for the rider must be affixed on the motorcycle as KMES fix: a. Once on the front, in the center of the front fairing. b. Once on the rear, in the top area of passenger seat location. c. These locations can t be altered by participant. 1.5 Fuel Only fuel of the current year from the appointed fuel supplier is permitted. This fuel will conform to the FIM Grand Prix specification. Use of this fuel without any addition or alteration is mandatory during all event (qualifying practices, warm-up and races). 2 updated 2 April 2017
3 1.6 Tyres This is not limit for number of tyres used by each rider for each event. Only is allowed to use the following type of tyres: For dry conditions: a. Front tyre: MICHELIN POWER CUP EVO, 120/ b. Rear tyre: MICHELIN POWER CUP EVO, 190/ For wet conditions: c. Front tyre: MICHELIN POWER RAIN, 12/60-17 or MICHELIN P12325B 120/ d. Rear tyre: MICHELIN POWER RAIN, 19/ Any modification or treatment (cutting, grooving) is forbidden. Tyre warmers are allowed including in the starting grid. 1.7 Engine Engine must remain as the homologated motorcycle except for the parts described in the following articles. Any modification not authorized or prescribed in this rule is strictly forbidden. 1.8 Fuel injection system Fuel injection system refer to throttle bodies, fuel injectors, fuel pump and fuel regulator. a. The original homologated fuel injection system must be used without any modification. b. The fuel injectors must be stock and unaltered from the original specification and manufacture. c. Air funnels must remain as originally produced by the manufacturer for the homologated motorcycle. d. Butterfly valves cannot be changed or modified. e. Secondary throttle valves must remain assembled and working normally as the homologated motorcycle. f. An extra fuel filter for fuel pump is allowed, only as a filter element covering the fuel pump. 1.9 Cylinder head a. b. The head cylinder gasket may be the originally homologated Camshaft a. b. 4 1.14 Piston rings 1.15 Piston pins and clips 1.16 Connecting rods 1.17 Cranckshaft 1.18 Crankcase 1.19 Lateral covers and protection All lateral covers/engine cases containing oil and wich could be in contact with the ground during a crash, must be protected by a second cover FIM approved. KMES will supply a set of covers for each participant, and its use with a correct conditions is mandatory. Oil containing engine covers must be secured with steel bolts Transmission/Gearbox a. b. Quick-shift (upshift) system is allowed (including wire and potentiometer). The unit must be the included one in the KMES kit parts assy for Z-CUP. c. Countershaft sprocket, rear wheel sprocket, chain pitch and size must be the originally fitted and homologated part with no modification d. The sprocket cover must remain fitted as the originally fitted and homologated part with no modification e. Chain guard as long as it is not incorporated in the rear fender may be removed Clutch a. Clutch system and the method of operation must remain as homologated. b. As the original homologated motorcycle is equipped with a back torque limiting clutch (slipper type), the friction and drive discs must remain original with the option to change for a different thickness the drive discs to adjust the back torque limiting capabilities (original slipper type). Only original discs are allowed, manufacturer offers 3 different thickness to adjust. c. No other parts can be modified, altered or substituted. d. Clutch springs must be the original and preload is not 1.22 Oil pumps and oil lines 1.23 Radiator, cooling system and oil cooler a. The only liquid engine coolant permitted is water. b. Protective meshes may be added in front of the water radiator. 4 updated 2 April 2017
5 c. The cooling system hoses, catch tanks and oil cooler must remain as the homologated motorcycle. d. Radiator fan may be removed. e. Radiator cap is free. f. Additional water radiator is not g. Thermostat unit may be removed Air box a. The air box must be the originally fitted and homologated part with no modification b. The air filter element must be the originally fitted and homologated part with no modification c. The air box drains must be sealed. d. Closed breather system must be the originally fitted and homologated part with no modification e. No heat protection may be attached to the air box Fuel supply a. Fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator must be the originally fitted and homologated part with no modification b. The fuel pressure must be as homologated. c. Fuel lines from the fuel tank to the delivery pipe assembly must be the originally fitted and homologated part with no modification d. Fuel filter to cover the fuel pump may be added Exhaust system a. Exhaust pipes and silencer must be the kit part delivered in the ZCUP kit parts assy with no modification b. Wrapping of exhaust system is not 1.27 Electrics and electronics a. The engine control system (ECU) must be the original system as homologated, with no change of software. b. External fuel injection module is not c. Quick shift system delivered in the ZCUP kit parts assy must be fitted with no modification d. Gear box shift system street (first gear down) or race (first gear up) may be adopted. e. Data logger system is not f. The harness must be the original as homologated with no modifications The harness areas not used (as lights, etc) must be fixed with tape to main harness. g. Spark plugs must be the original as homologated. h. Battery must be the original as homologated Generator, alternator, electric starter a. b. The stator must be fitted in its original position and without offsetting. c. The electric starter must operate normally and always be able to start the engine during the event. d. During parc fermé the starter must crank the engine at a suitable speed for starting for a minimum 2 seconds without the use a boost battery. No boost battery may be connected to the machine after the end of the session Main frame During the entire duration of the event, each rider can only use one (1) complete motorcycle, as presented for Technical Control, with the frame clearly identified with a seal. In case the frame will need to be replaced the rider or the team must request the use of a spare frame to the Technical Control. 5 updated 2 April 2017
6 a. The frame must be the originally fitted and homologated part with no modification b. Nothing may be added or removed from the frame body. c. Engine mounting brackets or plates must remain as originally produced by the manufacturer for the homologated motorcycle. d. Front sub frame /fairing mount must remain as originally produced by the manufacturer for the homologated motorcycle. e. The paint scheme is restricted, no modifications allowed form the original color produced by the manufacturer Front forks a. The upper and lower fork clamps (triple clamp, fork bridges) must remain as originally produced by the manufacturer for the homologated motorcycle. b. ZCUP kit parts assy steering damper must be fitted. c. The steering damper cannot act as a steering lock limiting device. d. The internal parts of the homologated forks must be modified by the parts delivered in the ZCUP kit parts assy, other modifications are not allowed except the change of the spring ratio for the front fork springs Rear fork (swing arm) a. The rear fork must be the originally fitted and homologated part with no modification b. A chain guard delivered in the ZCUP kit parts assy must be fitted in such a way to reduce the possibility that any part of the riders body may become trapped between the lower chain run and the rear wheel sprocket Rear suspension unit a. Rear suspension unit (shock absorver) must be replaced by the ZCUP kit parts assy delivered to each participant, the original attachments to the frame and rear fork (swing arm) (or linkage) must be as homologated. b. All the rear suspension linkage parts must be the originally fitted and homologated part with no modification c. Rear shock spring ratio is free Wheels a. Wheels must be the originally fitted and homologated part with no modification b. Wheel axles and spacers must be the originally fitted and homologated part with no modification c. Wheel balance weights may be discarded, changed or added to. d. Any inflation valves may be used Brakes a. The front and rear brake discs must be the originally fitted and homologated part with no modification b. The front and rear brake caliper must be the originally fitted and homologated part with no modification c. The front and rear master cylinder must be the originally fitted and homologated part with no modification d. The front and rear brake pads must be the originally fitted and homologated part with no modification e. Front and rear brake fluid reservoirs must be the originally fitted and homologated part with no modification f. Front and rear hydraulic brake lines must be replaced by the ZCUP kit parts assy delivered to each participant with no modification g. The Antilock Brake System (ABS) brake lines must be disconnected and removed, but its ECU and hydraulic unit (single part in this model) must remain electrically connected. 6 updated 2 April 2017
7 h. Motorcycles must be equipped with the brake lever protection delivered to each participant in the ZCUP kit parts assy with no modification 1.35 Handlebar and hand controls a. Handlebar and his fittings may be replaced for a different shape or different diameter handlebar, but fixation point to upper triple clamp must remain in his original position. b. Throttle control must be self closing when not held by the hand. The closing cable must remain fitted and operated. c. Clutch and brake lever may be replaced with an after-market model. An adjuster to the brake lever in not 1.36 Fuel tank a. Fuel tank must be the originally fitted and homologated part with no modification b. All fuel tanks must be completely filled with fire retardant material (open-celled mesh, i.e. Explosafe ) c. The original Fuel Evaporative System (FES) may be removed, if FES is removed fuel tank breather pipes must be fitted with non-return valves that discharge into a catch tank with a minimum volume of 250cc made of a suitable material. d. Fuel cap must be replace by the ZCUP kit parts assy delivered to each participant. e. A rider spacer/pad may be fitted to the rear of the tank with non-permanent adhesive. It may be constructed of foam padding or composite material. f. The sides of the fuel tank may be protected with a cover made of a composite material. These covers must fit the shape of the fuel tank Fairing/Bodywork/Seat a. The following parts must be replaced for the ZCUP kit parts assy delivered to each participant: Front fairing (head lamp area), solo seat and associated body work, lower fairing, front mudguard. b. No extra wind screen can be added. c. The lower fairing must hold, in case of an engine breakdown minimum 4 litres. d. Extra radiator shroud is not e. The lower fairing must incorporate a single opening of 25mm diameter in the front lower area. This hole must remain sealed in dry conditions and must be opened only in wet race conditions as declared by the Race Director Rear Safety Light All motorcycles will keep the original tail light on function, to be used in rain or low visibility conditions. The team must ensure that the light is switched on whenever a rain tyre is fitted on the motorcycle The following items MUST BE removed a. Turn signal indicators. b. Rear-view mirrors. c. Horn. d. License plate bracket. e. Toolkit. f. Passenger foo rests. g. Side stand The following items MUST BE altered a. All drain plugs must be wired. External oil filter, screws and bolts that enter an oil cavity must be safety wired (i.e. on cranckcases). b. Where breather or overflow pipes are fitted they must discharge via existing outlets. The original closed system must be retained: no direct atmospheric emission is permitted. 7 updated 2 April 2017
8 1.41 Timekeeping instruments All motorcycles must have a correctly positioned timekeeping transponder. The transponder must be approved by the official Timekeeper and fixed to the motorcycle in the longitudinal centre of the motorcycle (typically close the swing-arm pivot), on either the left or right side, as low as possible and avoiding being shielded by carbon bodywork. Correct attachment of the transponder bracket consists of a minimum of tie-wraps, but preferably by screws or rivets. Any transponder retaining clip must also be secured by a tie-wrap. Velcro or adhesive alone will not be accepted. The transponder must be working at all times during practices and races, also when the engine is switched off. 8 updated 2 April 2017
9 TEN FITTING TESTS FOR HELMETS 1. Obtain correct size by measuring the crown of the head. 2. Check there is no side to side movement. 3. Tighten strap securely. 4. With head forward, attempt to pull back of helmet to ensure helmet cannot be removed this way. 5. Check ability to see clearly over shoulder. 6. Make sure nothing impedes your breathing in the helmet and never cover your nose or mouth. 7. Never wear scarf around neck so that air is stopped from entering the helmet. Never wear scarf under the retention strap. 8. Ensure that visor can be opened with one gloved hand. 9. Satisfy yourself that the back of your helmet is designed to protect your neck. 10. 10 INTERNATIONAL HELMET STANDARS Helmets must conform to one of the recognised international standards: EUROPE JAPAN USA ECE (only "P" type) JIS T 8133:2007 (valid until ) JIS T 8133:2015 (only "Type 2 Full face") SNELL M 2010 (valid until ) SNELL M 2015 Examples of labels are reported below (for Europe, the country numbers which have granted the approval are also indicated): EUROPE JAPAN USA A protective lower face cover must be present and must be not detachable, not moveable and made of the same material of the shell. Helmets constructed with an outer shell made of more than one piece are not permitted (e.g. they must not contain any seam).
