4 The ALPRO moulded sole Safety at every turn of the way with the slip-resistant profi le At work, it s important to be able to rely 100% on one s equipment. The same goes for the original cork models by ALPRO : with their natural shape, they offer TÜV-certifi ed protection and top comfort all the way from heel to toe. Heel strap ensures a safe grip in every situation. A soft footbed lining made of suede ensures excellent moisture absorption and regulates the temperature of the foot. Longitudinal and transversal arch support give the foot a sturdy grip on the bed and provide support when moving. A deep heel cup keeps the foot fi rmly inside the footbed and ensures a reliable grip. The slip-resistant outsole is especially light, cushioning and non-marking on fl oor. 10 The ALPRO antistatic-clogs Optimal protection against electrostatic discharges in operating theatres When walking on different surfaces, people gradually build up an electric charge. Given that even the smallest electrostatic discharge can lead to serious complications in operating theatres or intensive care wards, effective countermeasures must be taken. Antistatic clogs made of ALPRO -foam protect intensive care patients and sensitive operating theatre technology from such hazardous discharges. Charges are gently dissipated and larger electrostatic pulses are prevented. All A 650 and A 650 Air operating theatre clogs are equipped with replaceable antistatic footbeds. The ISO standards are valid worldwide for protective and professional footwear The DIN EN ISO standards Ten years ago, a series of pan-european regulations were established for protective, professional and safety footwear. Based on the following regulations, TÜV Rheinland (German Technical Inspection Agency) tests and approves ALPRO models. DIN EN ISO 20344: Requirements and test methods DIN EN ISO 20345: Safety footwear specifi cations DIN EN ISO 20346: Protective footwear specifi cations DIN EN ISO 20347: Occupational footwear specifi cations Professional footwear refers to all shoes that have slip-resistant, antistatic or similar qualities. Generally speaking, occupational shoes are not equipped with any special toe protection. Models with toe protection are grouped in the categories of protective footwear (e.g. plastic caps, test energy up to 100 joules) or safety footwear (steel toe caps, test energy up to 200 joules). Classifi cation of standards SB: Standard (refers to general basic requirements; open-heel models can also be part of this classifi cation); S1: Standard safety footwear = SB + antistatic + energy absorption in heel area; S2: Standard safety footwear for wet areas; S3: Standard safety footwear for wet areas with puncture-resistant, profi led sole and closed-heel area ALPRO models certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO-standards The majority of ALPRO models meet one of the DIN EN ISO professional footwear standards. The ALPRO PU-clog without steel toecap complies with the DIN EN ISO 20347:2007, SRC, E, OB standard. The soles of our ALPRO models have been tested by TÜV Rheinland in accordance with DIN EN ISO 13287:2007. This regulation specifi es that at least one of the following three categories must be fulfi lled: SRA Slip resistance on ceramic tiles with cleaning agent SRB Slip resistance on steel fl oor with glycerol SRC Slip resistance on ceramic tiles with cleaning agent and on steel fl oors with glycerol ALPRO sandals and clogs with soft footbed and super-grip sole and ALPRO PU-clogs have passed the SRC category. 36 Well protected against electrostatic discharge The DIN EN ISO standards for ESD shoes Danger: electrostatic discharges ESD is the international abbreviation for electrostatic discharge. When two objects with different charges attract, a charge equalisation occurs often in the form of a visible spark or electric shock within the timeframe of a microsecond. For humans, this discharge can only be felt when it exceeds 3,000 volts. Nevertheless, 30 volts are enough to damage electronic components, and charges as low as fi ve volts can cause serious damage or even destroy sensitive high-frequency and semiconductor products such as microchips and PCBs. As a result of this, anyone who works with such sensitive components and/or wants to protect themselves and others from unpleasant shocks requires professional equipment to protect products and others from hazardous discharges and to prevent components from being destroyed. Protection: footwear with ESD resistance In accordance with DIN EN ISO 61340, ESD shoes provide reliable protection against the aforementioned danger of electrostatic discharge in the recommended contact resistance range between 10 5 and ohm. In order to ensure that ESD shoes are effective, special conductive fl ooring must be fi tted correctly. The following factors should also be considered concerning electrostatic dissipation: interaction between various ground types and different sole materials (PU, EVA), clothing, type of touch and climate. 38 Environmental protection on all levels Sustainable and environmentally friendly production methods Following nature s example Every ALPRO model takes its inspiration from nature. Nevertheless, our sandals and clogs are not only developed and produced based on anatomical considerations. During the entire production process, we work in close compliance with the latest environmental standards. And have been doing so since well before the topic became so prolifi c. Sustainable production Since the company was founded in 1993, we select our suppliers and producers based on a range of measures to protect the environment, including resource-friendly, CFC-free production methods, low-energy buildings, and warm-water generation from photovoltaic systems. Responsible catalogue production Our commitment to the environment is not only limited to direct production methods. The ALPRO catalogue is also printed on environmentally friendly FSC paper. Paper with FSC certifi cation is produced in complete harmony with the environment its components are yielded exclusively from sources of responsible forestry. In such practices, the sensitive forest ecosystem is encroached upon as little as possible. Nature is given enough time to regenerate and the forestry industry intervenes only when completely necessary. All of this has helped us to reduce our energy consumption by over 95% in the last 15 years our suppliers and production plants included. Modern recycling All surplus ALPRO foam and ALPRO cell materials left over from sole production are reused for instance, in the construction of children s play parks or sports centres, or as fl ooring or insulating material for noise protection. All of our cardboard boxes and packaging materials are completely recycled, too. In order to achieve this along with all of our customers and stockists, we have signed a waste disposal contract with Interseroh. This guarantees the correct and sustainable disposal of all ALPRO delivery and packaging materials. The ALPRO guarantee We guarantee that our activities on all levels fully comply with the latest European environmental standards incidentally, the most demanding in the world. We are able to do this because our production processes are carried out with the fi nest partners exclusively in Germany. Only those who meet our high requirements can collaborate with us in the production of ALPRO shoes. This is something you can rely on in the future, too! 41 Carpets inevitably cause electrostatic charges to build. Subsequent contact with patients, medical devices or conductive materials creates a sudden, jolting discharge. Sparks occur, and the individual receives a brief shock, transmitting it further within the proximity.
