And Our Vision Mountfield has been a number one UK brand for 50 years and our lawnmowers, lawn tractors and garden care products all share a reputation for outstanding quality and reliability. Mountfield began manufacturing rotary lawnmowers at premises in Maidenhead in 1962; the modern, high specification machines of today bear little resemblance to their ancestors but all share a common ethos of quality and value for money - which has helped to make Mountfield the UK s No.1 for 50 years. Customers often write to tell us about their Mountfield mowers, some of which have been providing sterling service for almost as long as we have been in business. For many, their Mountfield is like a reliable old friend, perhaps eased into semi-retirement assisted by a new acquisition but greatly valued nonetheless. Sometime in the mid 80 s we moved to Bath - we bought the model shown on the enclosed photograph secondhand! It s still in regular use and functions well enough with no problems starting her up. We have always chosen Mountfield, they ve been reliable, cheap to run and have never let us down. When we bought our second Mountfield we passed our first one onto our daughter and it s still going strong! Mountfield dealers also share our commitment. 4 6 7 Lawn Riders and Tractors Driving seat can be adjusted If you have a garden of at least half an acre you should for optimum operator comfort. consider purchasing a Mountfield lawn rider or lawn tractor. Soft grip steering wheel and ergonomic controls provide operator comfort. Our range starts with compact lawn riders which really are an economic alternative to larger walk-behind mowers yet still small enough to drive through a standard garden gate. They re great fun to use too! For larger gardens of an acre or more a lawn tractor is a Bonnet lifts to provide easy access to engine compartment. Grass collector can be emptied from the driving seat. Hydrostatic transmission controls must and if you have a lawn tractor it can do much more than cut grass. Compact Riders feature a mechanical Varispeed transmission that operates like a semiautomatic gearbox on a car. There s no need to change gear, simply move the control lever forward or back to adjust your ground speed. 6 10 11 Lawn Tractors - 84cm 1430M, 1430H & 3000SH Our 50th anniversary year seems an appropriate time for us to launch these innovative Mountfield lawn tractors to the market. Offering the power and versatility associated with all our rideon mowers they have an overall width of just 90cm and are ideal if you have a garden of around 1.5 acres with gates or other tight spaces to negotiate. Gear shift levers Featuring a twin-bladed cutter deck and wide central discharge chute, these tractors offer far superior cutting and collecting performance than any other rival tractors in their class. The clippings are efficiently discharged into the large 240 litre capacity rear mounted collector, that can be easily emptied without you having to leave the drivers seat. If you don t want to collect your clippings why not fit an optional mulching kit? With this device in place, you ll have a great finish with no disposal problems. 7 12 13 Lawn Tractors - 92cm 1436M, 1636H, 3600SH, It s no wonder these models are best sellers in the Mountfield range - they offer genuine lawn tractors at prices normally associated with smaller riders. Powered by Mountfield and Honda single cylinder engines they also offer options of a manual gearbox with 5 forward gears and reverse or a hydrostatic transmission providing variable groundspeed control similar to an automatic car. Clippings are discharged cleanly and efficiently into a 260 litre capacity collector which can be emptied from the driving seat. An audible alarm notifies the operator when the collector is full and resets automatically when it has been emptied. This device stops grass cuttings being discharged into the collector, instead they are cut and re-cut into small particles which disappear into the turf and return nutrients to the soil. 8 14 15 Lawn Tractors - 98cm 1538M-SD & 1538H-SD These exciting Mountfield lawn tractors provide an effective solution if you don t want to collect your grass clippings. Supplied with a mulching plug for the efficient recycling of grass clippings into your lawn. Instead of discharging clippings into a collector these mulching tractors retain them beneath the cutter deck to be cut and recut into small particles which are blown down into the lawn where they decompose and return valuable nutrients to the soil. Mow your grass on a regular basis and you ll save time, money and effort without sacrificing the standard of finish. These tractors come complete with a trailer hitch, so are ready to do far more than just cut grass! Use with our wide range of towed accessories, examples include: At times the growth may be too vigorous to mulch effectively. In these conditions simply select the side discharge function, grass will be neatly cut and spread allowing it to wilt naturally. 9 16 17 Lawn Tractors - 102cm 1540H, 4000TH, 1840H & 2240H These four Mountfield lawn tractors all feature our highly efficient 102cm Cut and Collect system. Complete with a trailer hitch these tractors are ready to do far more than just cut grass! Use with our wide range of towed accessories, examples include: Twin contra rotating blades cut and discharge clippings into the large rear mounted collector in one smooth operation. 10 18 19 Lawn Tractors - 122cm and Accessories 2248H & 2448H 4WD Power and performance are key on these top of the range lawn tractors. Their high output 122cm cutter decks soon cut large areas of grass down to size. Twin cylinder Briggs & Stratton engines powering infinitely variable hydrostatic transmissions deliver smooth and controllable drive to the wheels. Controls are ergonomically designed and placed within easy reach of the operator. A fully adjustable seat and illuminated diagnostic display add to the driving experience. Roller For that perfect striped finish you ll need a roller and the weight of ours is adjusted simply by regulating the amount of sand or water used as ballast. The 2448H 4WD has a Dial a Height control select the height of cut to suit your conditions and this setting will be retained. For sure grip on slopes or in adverse conditions it also has the added benefit of 4WD. An audible alarm notifies the operator when the collector is full, however, when conditions are suitable collection and disposal of grass clippings can be eliminated by fitting the mulching kit supplied. 11 21 20 Multiclip Ride-on Mowers Did you know that a half acre lawn can produce more than 4 tons of grass clippings in a single season? Do you really want to collect and dispose of all that grass? Comfortable, ergonomic steering wheel and controls. The innovative design of the Multiclip mulching decks fitted to this range of ride-on mowers retains grass within the deck area to be cut and re-cut into very small particles which are then blown right down into the turf, out of sight, where micro-organisms speed their decomposition. Recycling clippings in this way returns valuable nutrients to the soil, reducing the need for artificial fertilisers whilst producing a healthy, attractive lawn. Those 4 tons of clippings contain some 100 pounds of nitrogen as well as other valuable trace elements, all essential for healthy growth and all provided free as you mow. Adjustable sprung seat ensures operator comfort. Hinged cover facilitates routine maintenance such as checking the oil level and cleaning the air filter. 12 22 23 Multiclip Ride-on Mowers Mountfield 2000 and 4000 Series mowers look very different from most other ride-on mowers, and they are. Their front mounted Multiclip Combi cutter decks not only give a superb finish they provide the operator with excellent visibility and cut the grass before it is run over by the wheels of the machine. Another tremendous advantage is their ability to access those places; such as into corners or under bushes that you can t reach with a mid-mounted cutter deck. 2135H Suitable for gardens of around an acre the 2000 Series feature rear wheel steering. For larger areas the 4000 Series combine front mounted cutter decks with genuine articulated steering to provide the ultimate driving experience. All models are powered by Briggs & Stratton Powerbuilt series engines and have hydrostatic transmissions for infinitely variable ground speed control. 4155H If you have a car with 4WD you will appreciate the confidence this inspires. On our 4WD model an oil pump powers two separate hydrostatic transmissions; these in turn power differentials to give a system that doesn t chew up the turf, even when driven enthusiastically. Multiclip Combi cutter decks recycle your grass clippings and save you time, money and effort without sacrificing the standard of finish; or when the grass is longer select the rear discharge facility. 13 24 25 Walk Mowers Choosing the right lawnmower can seem daunting - but it needn t be difficult if you follow this guide. The first thing to consider is the size of. Is it small, medium, large or extra large? If we use a tennis court as a reference point, small gardens are around half a tennis court, medium up to three quarters and large up to one and a half. Extra large gardens are half an acre or more and a ride-on mower would be a more appropriate choice. Depending on the size of you may have a choice of power source. Mains electric mowers are quiet, lightweight and easy to use; they are ideal for smaller gardens. Petrol engine mowers are a better choice for larger areas as they are more powerful and not restricted by a cable. Modern petrol engines are easy to start; on some you just have to turn a key. Mowers with 4 wheels are highly manoeuvrable and give an excellent finish on all types of lawn. If you want a classic striped effect finish you ll need a machine with a rear roller. Cosset ultra fine lawns with a cylinder mower, they cut grass with scissor like precision. You ll find more information on Mountfield cylinder mowers on page 36. Hand propelled machines have to be pushed to make them move forward, the motor or engine s sole function is to drive the cutter blade. Power driven models have a transmission so they require less effort to use; just engage the drive and the mower will move forward. Some models have to be pushed to make them move forward. Power drive models have a transmission, when this is engaged the mower moves forward. This mower has a 4 speed transmission. The grassbox indicator lets you see when the box is full and ready to be emptied. The greater the capacity of the grass collector the fewer times you ll have to empty it. All Mountfield mowers have an operator presence control (OPC) lever a safety device which stops the engine within seconds of it being released. This throttle control allows you to vary the engine speed to suit your working conditions. Some models have quick release handle fittings like these an advantage if you need to fold the handles for storage. Our petrol mowers are powered by either Mountfield or Honda engines. All of them are 4-stroke and run on unleaded petrol with a separate tank for the oil More information is shown in the adjacent panel and power outputs are listed in the specification tables in the back of this brochure. All Mountfield engines fitted to our petrol mowers are the overhead valve type (OHV). Simple, compact and durable OHV engines have a highly efficient combustion system to provide an excellent power output. The Honda engines fitted to our mowers have overhead cams (OHC). This type of engine is slightly more complex than an OHV type but has fewer moving parts so is quieter. The cam is driven by a belt. The chassis, or cutter deck, may be made of polypropylene, steel with a powder coated paint finish or aluminium. It houses the blade and determines the working width, from 34cm to 53cm. Finally, do you want to collect your grass clippings? As well as conventional machines with grass collectors we have models with a mulch option which saves time and effort by recycling clippings. For additional ease of use choose a mower with electric key start. Turning the key starts the engine. Transform your Mountfield lawnmower into a mulching model with our Mulching Plug. This easy to fit device eliminates the need for grass collection as all the grass cuttings are finely cut and recycled into your lawn. This not only fertilises your lawn, it also makes cutting your grass around 30% quicker! 4 Wheel mowers give an excellent finish on all types of lawn. If you want a striped effect finish select a machine with a rear roller. Levers are used to adjust the cutting height. This mower just has one lever; other models may have 2, 3 or 4 levers. The chassis, or cutter deck, may be made of polypropylene, steel with a powder coated paint finish or aluminium. It houses the cutter blade and determines the working width of the mower.

14 Mains Electric Lawn Mowers Electric lawn mowers are quiet, lightweight, easy to use and ideal for smaller gardens. Mountfield offer a choice of five models; four have rear rollers which will leave a beautiful striped effect finish to your lawn. Further information on individual machine specifications can be found in the back of this brochure. Princess 38 & Princess 38 Li Princess 14 No convenient power supply? No problem! Mountfield s Princess 38 is also available as a battery powered version. Both models have a 38cm cutting width, mulching kit and integral rear roller for a striped effect finish. Princess 42 A favourite for over 25 years the Princess 14 justifies its reputation for quality and reliability. With a quiet 1150 watt brushless induction motor it has central height of cut adjustment, a rear roller and is a pleasure to use. Princess 34 The largest of our electric mowers the Princess 42 is a high performance rear roller machine. Supplied with a mulching kit to recycle grass clippings it has a 42cm working width, 1800 watt motor and offers excellent value for money. Princess 38, 38Li and 42 models all feature rear rollers and mulching kit. This stylish 4-wheel mower has a 34cm cutting width, 1300 watt motor and is a lightweight, high manoeuvrable, easy to use machine ideal for small lawns.

15 28 29 Petrol Engine 4-wheel Mowers Petrol engine mowers are an ideal choice for larger areas, they are more powerful than mains electric mowers and not restricted by a cable. Modern engines are easy to start especially Mountfield s own range of engines. Developed specifically for lawnmower applications Mountfield engines comply with stringent noise and vibration legislation even when powering the cutting blade at 3,000rpm the optimum speed for high performance. Suitable for general purpose use 4 wheel machines provide an excellent finish on all types of lawn. If you want a classic striped effect finish you ll need a mower with a rear roller, see the models on page 32. S461 HP, S461 PD & S461 PD/ES With a range of cutting widths and Mountfield or Honda engine options you will find a model to suit your requirements, whatever your needs. HP414 & SP414 With 46cm cutting widths and a choice of push or power drive these mowers all have single point height of cut adjustment. Quick release fittings allow the handles to be folded easily for storage. Recoil start Mountfield engines power two models, that also come with mulching kits, while the S461 PD/ES has an electric key start engine for ultimate ease of use. S464 PD Model S461 PD/ES Model HP414 Two exciting machines which offer petrol engine power and ease of use at mains electric mower prices. Common features are 39cm cutting widths, tough polypropylene cutter decks and powerful Mountfield RS100 OHV engines. Push or power drive options are available the choice is yours. S421HP & S421PD Model S464 PD If you have slopes or large lawns a mower with power drive makes cutting the grass much easier and thanks to the 4-speed transmission on the 46cm cutting width S464 PD you can also select your forward speed. This model has quick release handle fittings, single point height of cut adjustment and a powerful 160cc Mountfield RM55 OHV engine. Model S421HP These mowers are no frills machines but that doesn t mean we have compromised on quality, far from it. Available as a push model or with power drive to make cutting your grass even easier, both have steel cutter decks with 41cm cutting widths, are powered by Mountfield RSC100 OHV engines, come complete with mulching kits and represent excellent value for money.

16 30 31 Petrol Engine 4-wheel Mowers Powered by Honda engines there are five more models in Mountfield s highly affordable range of steel chassis 4 wheel mowers. Sometimes you may want to leave your grass longer than usual, these High Wheel mowers allow you to do this but they still cut low enough for normal lawn maintenance. Oversized rear wheels extend the cutting height range to a maximum of 90mm. For conventional use a minimum setting of 25mm provides the same excellent finish as a standard machine. These robust mowers are designed to provide an excellent finish on all types of lawn. All represent outstanding value for money and are backed by Mountfield s reputation for excellence. SP535 HW Choose from models with features such as mulching kits, wash links or quick release handle fittings - individual product specifications can be found in the back of this brochure. HP425 & SP425 With power drive, a 51cm working width, robust steel cutter deck and a Honda GCV135 OHC engine the SP535 HW cuts through large areas of grass quickly and easily. SP535 HW 4S Model HP425 Both the push and power drive versions of these 41cm cutting width mowers are powered by 135cc Honda GCV135 OHC engines. Power drive makes cutting the grass much easier as the engine drives the rear wheels as well as the cutter blade. Both models are supplied with mulching kits. SP465 This top of the range lawn mower is powered by a Honda GCV160 OHC engine and features a 4-speed transmission so you can adapt the forward speed to suit your working conditions. With side discharge and mulching options it is a highly versatile machine. With a 46cm cutting width this mower is fitted with a 135cc Honda GCV135 OHC recoil start engine and has power drive to the rear wheels. Quick release fittings allow the handles to be folded easily for storage. The SP465 is supplied with a mulching kit, clip this into the discharge chute to recycle your clippings instead of collecting them.

You ll find push or power drive, recoil or electric key start options in this product line-up with a choice of Mountfield or Honda engines. With full width rear rollers you re always in control, even when cutting around beds, paths or up to edges. HP465R & SP465R All models in this range have robust steel chassis with an integral wash link, 46cm cutting width, single lever height of cut adjustment with 5 settings from 20mm to 70mm and a grass collector full indicator. If you have a fine lawn and want those classic stripes look no further these Mountfield roller mowers will give you a superb finish. With a choice of push or power drive both models have quick release fittings so the handles can be folded easily for compact storage. S461R PD/ES Model HP465R Model S461R HP Powered by recoil start Mountfield OHV engines these mowers are available as push or power drive variants. On the power driven model the engine provides drive to the rear roller as well as the cutter blade, cutting grass is even easier as you don t have to push the mower to make it move forward. Both models give the same fine finish to your lawn. This model has the ultimate specification of this range of roller mowers with an electric key start 160cc Mountfield RM55ES OHV engine and power drive. 18 34 35 Petrol Engine Aluminium Mowers These top of the range, high specification mowers all have forged aluminium chassis that carry comprehensive 20 year anti-corrosion warranties. The 4 wheel models are rugged, highly manoeuvrable and versatile.
