2 Systematically reducing and avoiding noise In recent times, the noise emission from hydraulic drives has increasingly become a topic of interest in various sectors. Some applications or operating times only become possible in the first place because of extremely silent power packs. Through this noise reduction, for example, garbage trucks and feeder trucks with hydraulic platforms can be operated in early morning or late evening hours and refuse compactors behind supermarkets or hospitals can be operated the whole day. Thanks to a significant increase of operating hours and lower cost, owners and machine manufacturers alike achieve a competitive advantage. For this reason, Fluitronics has systematically analysed the subject in recent years and defined the procedure for the development and layout of noise-reducing mobile and stationary hydraulic power packs in the framework of a project promoted by the BMWi. This know-how is of advantage to every hydraulic power pack developed at Fluitronics. In cooperation with:

4 Cost-effective secondary measures already provide a benefit of 3-8 db(a) Merely by reducing the transmission of vibrations that arise in the sytem, up to 8 db(a) can be saved, often without any great cost. This allows the subjective loudness of a power pack to be reduced to about onethird. In cases in which this noise reduction is not enough, it is necessary to eliminate, or at least reduce, the vibrations that are responsible for the noise generation, through primary measures. Two examples of particularly effective primary measures VAC motor supplied from a 24 VDC grid With DC motors of traditional construction, most of the noise is generated by the necessary contacting via the rotating slipring. The noise emission can be clearly reduced through the use of an AC motor with the same output. At the same time, the efficiency of the power pack is increased significantly.

5 2. Use of new external gear pumps Thanks to new developments, Fluitronics now has gear pumps available that reduce the noise emission without any further measures by up to 20 db(a) as compared to the existing external gear pumps. The pumps can be used without major adjustments even in existing designed power packs owing to the same installation geometry. These pumps are significantly more silent than the pumps with two-flank contact often used for noise reduction and in this discipline, they are even superior to the far more expensive internal gear pumps and vane pumps. Almost as a side-effect, the efficiency also increases, which results in lower operating costs.
