19 Good Practices Utilize the services of an engineer or engineering firm familiar with the interconnection requirements of the local utility(s). Meet with the interconnection utility to discuss all aspects of the project and process. Thoughtful selection of the interconnection point may present cost saving opportunities for the project. When integrating into an existing facility, be sure to have the system drawings that accurately represent the configuration. When ordering long lead equipment confirm that it meets the specifications of the utility system where you are interconnecting. In general, the larger the system the more intricate the interconnection process will be. Larger systems will require more analysis and study to ensure the electrical system is not compromised by the addition of distributed generation. Facility managers and their staff will require training to operate the system safely and efficiently. 19
