4 Background Maintenance costs of European roads are increasing drastically due to the substantial land vehicle traffic increase Road maintenance companies have to deliver better and more intelligent road systems which leads to the need of a budget increase An excellent solution to solve the problem is a fair pay-per-use principle by innovative individual road prizing 4

5 Objectives and motivation Integration of EGNOS/EDAS processing functionality into an existing road charging system based on vehicle on-board technology Integration of a sophisticated miniaturized GNSS receiver chipset into the on-board sensor which is able to process GPS, EGNOS/EDAS, and even Galileo measurements Integration of an innovative GNSS PVT (Position, Velocity, Time) software solution Improvement of the overall charging performance (accuracy, availability, integrity) in urban environments by improving the positioning performance EGNOS coverage in the city of Graz on a vehicle trajectory (blue: EGNOS available; red: EGNOS unavailable) 5

14 Conclusion Due to the rising land vehicle traffic, and thus, the related increasing maintenance costs of the roads, intelligent and fair road charging systems are required GNSSmeter improves an existing toll charging system by the integration of EGNOS/EDAS functionality to improve positioning and thus, charging accuracy and integrity which leads to a certifiable operational system 14
