Some of these funds may be used to build transit stations or transit stations in different portions of the city. 6 Title: Eisenhower Valley Improvements Eisenhower Valley Improvements Holland Lane Mill Road City of Alexandria 300 c 1,000 c 1,000 c 1,000 c 710 c Section / 10 / 10 Description: The East Eisenhower Valley is part of the City of Alexandria which is undergoing massive changes as a result of the movement into the Valley of the Patent and Trademark office complex and related businesses and residences. As a consequence of this, the City is making all efforts to encourage transit use into the valley. The East Eisenhower Small area plan identifies a target mode split for this are of 42%. In order to accomplish this, a number of activities have to occur. East Eisenhower Avenue is in the process of providing a wide ranging set of transit improvements. The two projects funded by this CLRP entry will fund a variety of activities which will vastly improve transit access to this area. Four activities will occur. One will be developing a design which will permit Eisenhower Avenue to be widened while improving potential transit flow movements. A second will analyze bus movements around the station to ensure that they will provide the safest and mose convenient movements for buses and pedestrians in the station area. The primary activity will be to design and construct a new station entrance at the north end of the Eisenhower Metro station. SAFETEA-LU funds will provide the funds to design a new station entrance. Other funds may be used to design and build other infrastructure such as crosswalks, bus layover areas, and passenger facilities, which will facilitate transit use. 7 Title: Royal Street Bus Garage Replacement Royal Street Bus Garage Replacement To Be Identified City of Alexandria 876 d 1,000 d 1,000 d 1,000 d Description: The Royal Street Bus Garage is a very old facility (over 60 years old) which must be replaced shortly to permit WMATA to station advanced designed buses in this portion of the region. The existing site has been the subject of a considerable amount of site development interest, which was indicated in a joint development proposal WMATA circulated in It is hoped that a property exchange can be worked out between the existing Royal Street Garage and the site of a new location. After the site has been identified, the site will have to be designed for a new bus terminal. This money, together with such funds as Metro Matters funds left over from the construction of the West Ox garage in Fairfax County, will fund the design of the new facility. Funds are being pursued for the construction of the facility through several sources. FY07, Identify the location for a new location for the Royal Street bus replacement facility. FY08-10, Perform design of the new bus garage Title: District wide Bus Replacement Prog. This project would allow for the purchase of buses to support Virginia s portion of the WMATA FY FY 2008 bus replacement program, which will be made up of a mix of clean diesel and hybrid-electric buses. This bus replacement program will replace at least 217 buses system-wide and about 56 in Northern Virginia. The requested funding will fund 8 to 12 buses, depending on the type selected. Buses are estimated to cost approximately $330,000 each for diesel and $500,000 for hybrid. Each bus will include a bicycle rack that will accommodate up to two bicycles to enable bicyclists to utilize the buses Title: Center City of Alexandria Center 300 c RSTP 300 Landmark Mall City of Alexandria $300 Description: Construct a transit transfer facility to facilitate bus transfers at Landmark Mall. Access to the ramps would be for buses only and would be restricted by a transponder-activated gate / arm, similar to the gates / arms used on toll roads. 10 000T1833 Title: PRTC - Commuter Assistance Program PRTC - Commuter Assistance Program Prince William County Manassas & Manassas Park Prince William County, Manassas, & Manassas Park Description: Since the late 70 s and early 80 s, PRTC s Commuter Assistance Program has provided comprehensive transit and commute matching services for Prince William County, Manassas, and Manassas Park. Historically, the Prince William area program has attained the highest performance and carpool/vanpool match rates in the region, according to the Metropolitan Washington Council of Government (MWCOG). Ridematching services are coordinated with the regional MWCOG Commuter Connection database. In FY 2004, OmniMatch provided matching and marketing ridesharing information, as well as limited financial support for about 122 full-size vans (15-passenger), 27 mini-vans (7 or 9 passenger). Combined, the privately owned and operated vanpools carried about 3442 passenger trips per day on the HOV lanes of I-95 and I-66. PRTC also processed an average of 187 ridesharing applications per month in FY04. Finally, projects that improve passenger travel conditions, as well as crew working conditions, will be accomplished through equipment modifications. More specifically, the VRE Mafersa fleet will soon require an overhaul of brakes, air conditioning, trucks and related equipment which will be phased in over several years to minimize the number of railcars out-of-service at any one time. In addition, the purchase of two 3,000 horsepower locomotives is programmed for FY-05. The aging of the original fleet & the higher horsepower requirements of the bi-level trainsets will require additional power. The proposed locomotive acquisition will require approximately 18 months, with delivery anticipated in FY05. Includes $3,675 K in State funds in FY-02 for a two-year lease of two (2) Sounder trains. In addition, the purchase of two 3,000 horsepower locomotives is programmed for FY05. The aging of the original fleet and the higher horsepower requirements of the bi-level trainsets will require additional power.
