Nonlinear and unbalanced loads must be controlled just as effectively as peaks and overloads, caused by high start up currents. Critical applications have to be protected against not only mains failures, but also against voltage peaks and overvoltages. Design of UPS systems often forms part of building design and represents high investment with high operating costs. Therefore no compromise to security and economy of the UPS should be considered. 4 4 BENNING World Class Power Solutions powerful and compact Compact high performance Space-saving and weight are considerations which impact heavily on the total cost of a UPS. The uses both the most modern technology and a specially developed high power heat sink to make it possible to concentrate the power electronics (120 kva on 0,64 m 2 ). Great attention was paid to designing an easy to service structure, and maximising MTBF values. Fans are redundant, speed controlled and monitored and are located in the UPS air inlet (not effected by high exhaust air temperatures). Input and output circuit breakers in the UPS enable the unit to be completely isolated. All important components are accessible from the front. The upper power section containing the IGBT s and the fan unit can be pulled out for maintenance purposes and/or exchanged completely. For maintenance purposes an internal manual bypass is included, which connects the load directly to the mains during service. The condition of the battery is therefore constantly monitored by the microprocessor. The temperature controlled battery charging voltage enables a long life span of the battery The small current ripple from the rectifier in accordance with EUROBAT ensure the highest battery life time The battery charging current limitation prevents heating up of the battery by excessive charging current The internal battery disconnection activated at low voltage provides reliable protection against over-discharging The cyclic battery test examines all battery connections The battery monitor provides remaining battery capacity and determines the remaining back up time dependant on the actual load. 7 BENNING World Class Power Solutions diagnosis and monitoring on-line 7 on-line: Diagnosis and monitoring A special system enables remote diagnostics and monitoring with complete access to the system for fault-finding and repair. Many possibilities exist for both trained customer technicians and BENNING service personel to monitor event logs and real time data such as voltage, current, power and frequencies. The UPS can be configured to call for service automatically based on certain events. SNMP Integration of the into network management using The Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is possible e.g. HP Openview, IBM Netview, Novell NMS and other SNMP compatible systems. UPSMON Factory data capture and monitoring UPSMON is a complete information software package for monitoring and controlling of the via serial interface, network or modem. It is able to monitor real time processing information and past events. The information can be represented in the form of individual building plans, electrical mimic diagrams or control elements of the devices. The DDE interface enables compatibility with standard applications such as data bases or spread-sheets for further processing. Simple and clear commands make the software an efficient tool even for the non-expert. UPSMAN The automation of different actions permiting shutdown and monitoring UPSMAN allows the automation of different actions based on certain events. E.g. arranged shut down of individual personal computers over the network or broadcasting messages or s e.g. battery undervoltage. UPSMAN is available for all usual operating systems.
