1 Canary System The Canary system is a 3 axis vibration monitoring system for Balance of Plant (BOP) machinery that continuously displays overall vibration condition using green, yellow, amber or red bright flashing LED s for increasing levels of vibration severity. It s designed for use on general purpose machinery such as motors, pumps and fans. Canary is not meant as a replacement to a diagnostic Predictive Maintenance program, but as an aid to the program or for use on units not regularly monitored in a program, or where no program exists. The Canary system consists of a 3 axis vibration transducer unit, a power cable and a Power Pod power supply. Combined, the system is self-contained, self-powered and no permanent plant wiring is required. The Canary transducer is magnetically mounted with a built-in 30 lb. pull magnet. The Canary transducer unit displays overall vibration velocity amplitude from the highest of the 3 axis s measured on a 3 axis accelerometer as a flashing green, yellow, amber or red, bright LED. The LED s correspond to ISO standard vibration levels for OK, Alert, Warning and Alarm (ISO Zones A, B, C & D) or can be custom calibrated for desired vibration levels. Canary System Installation To install the system, simply mount the Canary transducer unit(s) on the machine to be monitored and plug in the power cable from a Power Pod and the Canary in functioning. The two most popular Power Pods available are the magnetically mounted Solar Power Pod and the Fan Power Pod. Each will power 4 Canary units. The Fan Power Pod magnetically mounts to the fan housing of a totally enclosed fan cooled motor and is driven from the fan air flow. Also available are a 120VAC Line Power Pod and a Battery Power Pod. Every time the Canary is powered, the transducer performs a self-calibration check. This calibration check is indicated by a flash of all of the LED s in sequence twice. After the calibration and LED check is complete, the Canary(s) will begin reading vibration levels and display the appropriate flashing green, yellow, amber or red LED that corresponds with the vibration amplitude sensed by the Canary(s). Although the Canary sensor can be mounted anywhere, the Canary transducer is normally mounted on the machine top-dead-center (TDC) near rotor bearings for horizontal machines. For vertical machines, the top or side of the machine at the bearing locations is recommended.

Although Canary and Power Pods are low voltage (5VDC), epoxy sealed and have weather tight power connections, Canary and Power Pods are not yet approved for Hazardous Atmosphere locations. 3 Canary System - Power Options Power Pods Power for the Canary transducer comes from a Power Pod. Power Pods come in 4 versions: Solar powered (PP-S), motor fan powered (PP-F), 110VAC line powered (PP-L) and battery powered (PP- B). PP-S - Power Pod - Solar The PP-S is a solar powered supply for the Canary vibration transducers and will power up to 4 (four) Canary vibration transducers from direct sunlight. The PP-S is equipped with replaceable lithium batteries for a reserve capacity of 48 hours of power for night and overcast conditions after 6 hours of direct sunlight charging. The PP-S is suitable for all weather outdoor use, but not yet approved for Hazardous Atmosphere locations. The PP-S is magnetically mounted with a built-in mounting magnet. It is also equipped with a flexible arm for pointing toward the prevailing sun direction.

Power for the Canary transducers is supplied from the air flow through the motor fan and the PP-F will power up to 4 (four) Canary vibration transducers.

4 PP-F - Power Pod Fan The PP-F is magnetically mounted on the fan grill of totally enclosed fan cooled (TEFC) motors 50 horse power and larger. The fan grill must have a minimum diameter of 12 to accommodate the PP- F. Power for the Canary transducers is supplied from the air flow through the motor fan and the PP-F will power up to 4 (four) Canary vibration transducers. Air flow restriction to the motor is negligible. If the fan grill on the motor is non-magnetic, steel washers epoxied on the grill will allow for mounting the PP-F. Once mounted, simply plug in the power cable from the Canary transducer units. The PP-F will start automatically every time the motor is running. The PP-F is suitable for outdoor locations, but is not yet approved for Hazardous Atmosphere locations. PP-L - Power Pod Line The PP-L is a 110 VAC DIN rail mounted power supply for up to 4 Canary vibration transducers. Note the PP-L is not approved for all weather outdoor use and not yet approved for hazardous atmosphere locations.

PP-B - Power Pod Battery The PP-B is a battery pack using 2 standard 6VDC lantern size batteries that will power one Canary unit up to 7 months or 4 Canary units up to 6 weeks.

5 PP-B - Power Pod Battery The PP-B is a battery pack using 2 standard 6VDC lantern size batteries that will power one Canary unit up to 7 months or 4 Canary units up to 6 weeks. The lantern batteries are user supplied and replaceable. The PP-B is suitable for all weather outdoor use, but not yet approved for Hazardous Atmosphere locations. Power Cables Power cables are used to connect the Power Pod to the Canary transducer. Power cables may be ordered in standard 2 foot lengths from 2 to 20
