From the first stages of manufacturing through to shipping and usage, each akita product is known to be efficient and recyclable, otherwise it wouldn t even leave the drawing board. One of our most significant initiatives with akita products has been the push towards safer, longer life and more environmentally friendly batteries. This ongoing task started many years ago with the push away from an over reliance on Nickel Cadmium (NiCad) as a power source for our cordless tools. R ecycling akita also has a successful recycling programme in place to take your dead batteries off your hands and give them a new lease of life, either as a brand new battery or any number of recycled plastic and metal parts. hichever way, our batteries are unlikely to end up in a landfill. anu f actu ring akita s manufacturing process has also taken steps to reduce its impact on the environment, with efforts to ban harmful chemicals from its manufacturing plants across the world. A s of 2010, akita are fully compliant with both Reduction of Haz ardous Substances (RoHS) and aste Electrical and Electronic Equipment ( EEE) initiatives. Lithiu m-ion batteries In 1998 akita were the first to offer improved Nickel etal Hydride (Ni H) batteries, the same sort that power your TV Remote at home, that removed the need to use the toxic Cadmium found in previous types of battery. Today, akita continue to push forward and have, in the past few years, introduced L ithium- Ion to power its range of tools. These long life batteries last longer on much shorter charge times, meaning our customers are contributing less CO2 emissions than before, simply by using akita products within their homes and workplace.
