Run-of-river power generation is a method of power generation that uses water running in a river or a waterwa directl into power generation unit without storing water in a reservoir. The waterwa with a free surface open to the atmosphere. The area which is defined as a village where at least one electricit consumer is connected to national electricit grid, but there are other electricit consumers who are not connected to national electricit grid on the da of validation. The area which is defined as a village which is not classified as grid-accessible area defined above on the da of validation. C. Eligibilit criteria This methodolog is applicable to projects that satisf all of the following criteria. Criterion 1 The project installs a run-of-river micro hdropower generation unit which is not connected to national electricit grid. Criterion 2 The micro hdropower generation unit is installed in open channel with difference of elevation of 5m or less between the upstream and downstream. Criterion 3 Project monitors the quantit of total electricit consumption b the consumers as a whole. E. Establishment and calculation of reference emissions F.1. Establishment of reference emissions There are two tpes of reference scenarios depending on the accessibilit to national electricit grid. When the project is executed in an area which is defined as a village where at least one 2

3 electricit consumer is connected to national electricit grid, but there are other electricit consumers who are not connected to national electricit grid on the da of validation (defined as Grid-accessible area ), the reference scenario assumes emissions due to electricit supplied b the national electricit grid. When the project is executed in an area which is defined as a village which is not classified as Grid-accessible area on the da of validation (defined as grid-inaccessible area ), the reference scenario assumes the emissions due to electricit supplied b diesel generation unit or kerosene lamps. In the case of grid-inaccessible area, if electricit consumption of individual consumer is monitored (hereafter individual monitoring ), the calculation method 2 can be applied as necessar. If individual monitoring is not in place, the calculation method 1 is applied for an grid-inaccessible area cases. In the case of grid-accessible area, the grid emission factor of tco 2 / MWh, which is the lowest value suggested b Republic of Kena (2014) for the standardised baseline of CDM project activities in the second and third crediting periods, is chosen to fulfill the requirement of net emission reduction. Similarl, for grid-inaccessible area case, the reference emissions are calculated in view of ensuring their conservativeness with the emission factor of 1.0 tco 2 / MWh for diesel generation unit which is less than the lowest value indicated in Table I.F.1 in CDM SSC methodolog AMS-I.F for the equivalent load factor to the micro hdropower generation unit of 30kW.
