1 REASON FOR ACTION PURPOSE MODELS AFFECTED Warranty Possible Aileron Pushrod to Aileron contact with Rear Spar Flap Shroud. COMPLIANCE Not to exceed 10 flight hours Description To provide direction to inspect the clearance between the (Aileron Pushrod to Aileron, 135A ) control circuit pushrods and rework as required. Liberty XL-2 Aircraft SN0001 through SN0115, 117, 118, & 119 Time Allocated Rate Inspection Rework, if required 15 min 45 min $75.00 U.S. dollars / hour During routine production inspection, it was noticed that Aileron Pushrod to Aileron (135A ) was in contact with Rear Spar Flap Shroud (port: 135A & starboard: 135A ). This service document details the inspection procedure to verify a minimum of inch clearance around the Aileron Pushrod to Aileron and the Rear Spar Flap Shroud in all position of travel and rework accordingly. Procedure 1. Park the airplane in accordance with Section of the Liberty XL-2 Airplane Maintenance Manual (AMM). 2. At both extremes and through the full range of motion of the aileron, inspect for: a) A minimum of inch clearance between Aileron Pushrod to Aileron and the Rear Spar Flap Shroud (reference Figure 1). b) Any scratch marks on the Aileron Pushrod to Aileron observed due to contact with the Rear Spar Flap Shroud. 3. The inspection can best be accomplished by looking at the aft side of the Rear Spar Flap Shroud between the aileron and flap assembly. Using a flashlight directed from the wing access panels to the Aileron Pushrod to Aileron. A borescope may also be used as an alternate tool. 4. If the clearance between the Aileron Pushrod to Aileron and the Rear Spar Flap Shroud is at the minimum of inch in all range of travel and/or Aileron Pushrod to Aileron reveals no evidence of contact with the Rear Spar Flap Shroud, then no action is required. 5. If the clearance between the Aileron Pushrod to Aileron and the Rear Spar Flap Shroud is less than inch in any range of travel or evidence of scratches due to contact with the Rear Spar Flap Shroud, perform the following rework. of s 1 6 A
2 Remove Aileron Pushrod to Aileron (135A ) a) Remove thru bolt at bellcrank in underside outboard wing access panel. b) Remove (6) underside hinge screws. c) Remove the aileron and the aileron pushrod from the wing. If the torque strips on the rod end of the aileron pushrod is broken during the removal/assembly of the aileron, aileron rigging is required. d) Using a suitable tool, trim out (0.100 max) from the Rear Spar Flap Shroud and aft rib Flange at the low clearance area to the bend radius tangent line, obtaining a minimum of inch clearance between the Aileron Pushrod to Aileron and the Rear Spar Flap Shroud. Gap must be maintained for all position of travel, refer to figure 1, 2, & 3. e) Break all sharp edges at reworked area. f) Remove all FOD (foreign object debris: metal shavings, etc.) from inside the wing. g) Touch-up any bare area with Alodine 1200 IAW 135A h) Inspect Aileron Pushrod to Aileron for scratches: If scratches are only in paint, use Scotchbrite pad, Grade A (very fine) and touch-up with primer IAW (in accordance with) 135A If scratches are beyond paint, replace Aileron Pushrod to Aileron with new part. i) Re-install all removed parts. j) Check for correct operation and freedom of movement. k) Verify ailerons neutral and end of travel. l) Re-rigging IAW 135A , if required. m) Duplicate for other side. of s 2 6 A
