2 STARTING ENGINES NORMAL START It is recommended the left engine be started first since the hydraulic pump is installed on the right engine. This allows a preflight check of the auxiliary hydraulic pump. Prop controls..full FORWARD Mixture controls.. IDLE CUTOFF Throttles..OPEN ½ INCH Battery ON NAV lights..as REQUIRED Fuel selectors (one at a time). ON, X-FEED, ON In X-FEED position, X-FEED annunciator light should illuminate. When selector is moved from OFF to ON, actuation of one selector valve should be heard. When selector is moved from ON to X-FEED and X-FEED to ON, actuation of two selector valves should be heard. For engine being started, continue as follows: Propeller CLEAR Synchrophaser switch. MANUAL Boost pump ON Mixture control... FULL RICH Magneto switch......start, release to BOTH Throttle RPM Oil pressure CHECK Gyro pressure CHECK Boost pump OFF Alternator ON, annunciator light OUT Flaps. DOWN Aux. hydraulic. ON, PSI For opposite engine, repeat above steps and continue as follows: Hydraulic pressure. CHECK, PSI Alternator switches... ON, warning lights OUT - 2

CHECK Alternate air... FULL OPEN, return to full CLOSED Throttle RPM Do not take off with alternate air OPEN to preclude the possibility of introducing contaminated air into the cabin. - 3

CHECK Elevator control apply back pressure for a level attitude during takeoff roll Takeoff speed Flaps 20 DOWN.. 93 KIAS - rotate controls Flaps 20 DOWN 105 KIAS Gear. UP Flaps UP Strobe lights. AS REQUIRED CLIMB Throttles 42.0 in. MAP max. Prop speed RPM No leaning of fuel mixture during climb permitted. Airspeed 116 to I50 KIAS recommended Boost pumps AS REQUIRED - 4
5 It is recommended the boost pumps be left ON for climb to ensure uninterrupted engine operation in the event of engine driven fuel pump failure. Turn boost pump ON at first indication of fluctuating or low (29 PSI) fuel pressure/fuel flow, or during climb above 10,000 feet. Dump valve light......check NORMAL Bleed air (both)...;...check ON Cabin door seal CHECK INFLATE Cabin altitude control..... SET to desired cabin cruise altitude Cabin rate control...set desired rate Cabin rate of climb indicator...monitor Cabin altimeter/differential pressure indicator.. MONITOR Oxygen required light... MONITOR For unpressurized flight, dump valve light should show DU M P only and cabin control set to 10,000 feet. Engine temperatures/pressures. MONITOR CRUISE Power...SET Boost pumps...off, unless required Turn boost pump ON at first indication of fluctuating or low (29 PSI) fuel pressure/fuel flow, or during climb above 10,000 feet. Mixtures SET-lean to peak T.I.T. Mixture(s) should be reset whenever boost pump(s) are turned ON or OFF. Enrich mixture(s) and then reset to peak T.I.T. for proper fuel flow. - 5
6 Fuel quantity indicator MONITOR FREQUENTLY Sufficient fuel must be available in the fuselage tank for takeoff, climb, maneuvering, descent and landing. Low fuel warning light MONITOR LATERAL TRIM IMBALANCE Fuel selector (lighter wing side) X-FEED Fuel quantity (selected wing tank) MONITOR Fuel system limitations must be adhered to for X-FEED (crossfeed) operation. When either X-FEED selector is in the X-FEED position the selected engine is obtaining its total fuel supply from the opposite wing fuel tank. Frequently monitor selected wing fuel tank quantity. Fuel selector (after achieving lateral trim) ON PRESSURIZING CABIN IN FLIGHT Also review and follow the ECS/Cabin Pressurization. Aircraft altitude...10,000 or lower Cabin altitude control...select aircraft altitude or higher Cabin rate control... SET max. rate Bleed air (both)...on Cabin door seal...check - INFLATE After cabin altitude selector has rotated so selected altitude is achieved continue as follows: Dump valve... NORMAL Manifold pressure...check adequate for desired cabin altitude- see ECS/Cabin Pressurization Cabin altitude control... SELECT desired cabin altitude Cabin rate control.. SELECT desired rate Differential pressure indicator MONITOR Oxygen required light... MONITOR DESCENT Fuel selectors...on Power. AS REQUIRED (100 C MIN. C.H.T.) At higher altitudes, if throttle is reduced below approximately 15 in. MAP with rich fuel mixture, engine flooding may occur. To restart, lean mixture, advance throttle to above 15 in. MAP and reset mixture and power as desired. - 6
