The first week of May saw the arrival of Summer, yet three weeks on it seems as if that may well have been it with rain streaming down here and it looking anything but summery outside. The good news is that the fine weather spurred the garden railway modellers into action resulting in good sales in the larger scales while the recent showers have also meant that those indoor projects that perhaps would have been put on hold (no, not the WCML) until the Autumn have continued which has seen a steady flow of customers in your stores. Every cloud has a silver lining! As you will see, we ve been really busy with new projects and special offers hence the delay in publication. New DCC DECODERS These two new and tiny decoders both operate to the same specification - the only difference being the DCC23 has a 6 pin NEM 651 for direct plugging in, whilst the DCC22 has a harness / 8 pin plug. They will operate with 14, 28 or 128 speed steps with programmable 'inertia' acceleration and deceleration and are back EMF equipped. Preferred direction of travel is selectable by the user and quickly accessible switching allows shunting operations at realistically low speeds. Universal and Advanced consisting is available for double-heading, or multiple unit running and a motor isolation feature protects the decoder from overloads. Two and four digit addresses are recognised. Pulse width modulation can be adjusted to reduce the sound of humming or buzzing motors - a consequence of this is a reduction of the torque output of the motor, these decoders allow compensation for this effect. Programming can be either on the main or programming track and CV values can also be read on both. A full range of lighting options are included. 3 Back in STOCK This hand held controller, with 'simulation' has been off the market for some time whilst we made changes to bring it in line with our other walkaround controllers. The WS is now available in its new format. The casing is common to our Model W and HH walkarounds together with the Combi and will bring a measure of future price stability to these products, as well as the rugged durability of the ABS from which it is moulded. The new shape fits snugly to the hand, with all the controls easily operated, left or right handed, with just a thumb and forefinger. The forward/reverse switch operates from left to right with a centre off position. The central control knob acts with the electronics to provide a silky transition from a standstill to a realistic maximum speed and will fully exploit the slow running capabilities of your motive power. Operation can be in either simulation or standard mode, selected by the left/ right toggle switch at the top of the controller. In standard mode the WS operates just like a conventional controller - your loco responding exactly to the setting of the control knob as you rotate it. With simulation 'on', your loco will respond like the 'real thing', making a gentle start as it gets its train in hand then smoothly accelerating to whatever speed the control knob has been set, then running on at this speed. Any change to the control knob position will be reflected by your loco as if it were 'full size' and with the inertia of several hundred tons of train in tow. Shut off power and the train will 'coast' - slowly decelerating until it comes to a standstill. A pushbutton, just in front of the toggle switch, actuates the brake. Shut off power, apply the brake and the train will start to slow down - releasing the brake allows the train to coast again. The momentum of a real train is simulated so the braking effect is gradual - if braking to a standstill has been left too late then switching the toggle to 'off' will stop the train instantly. The WS delivers a controlled 12vDC, 1A output to the track and requires a 16vAC, 1.25A input which can be provided by either our T1 or M1 transformer or the AC output from a 100M controller via a GM75 6 pin din plug GAUGEMASTER WS Walkabout with Simulation Trade / Retail 42.95

21 TERRY S TRACK TALK - May 2008 Well the Ferrari F40 has well and truly arrived and we like you were caught out by it being a kit. It seems that all new Ferrari releases from Fly will be in this format, i.e. part assembled, but they all will come with their own crystal box and display base. This appears to be the way a growing number of manufacturers are going because of the crippling fees demanded by Mattel who hold the licence for Ferrari models. The kits do go together fairly easily and with the level of detail look stunning when completed, look at the picture of The first release of the racing kit versions of the F40 are now also in stock, and feature a fully decorated lightweight body from Le Mans 1996 and Fly s uprated adjustable racing chassis. The latest non F40 Ferrari kit to arrive is the 250 GTO (88324) as driven to victory by Graham Hill in the 1963 Tourist Trophy at Goodwood and made up, this beautiful model is the best GTO yet from the Spanish manufacturer and well worth the five minutes it took to put together.
