Pre-tensioners and force limiters Integral to the front 3-point ELR seat belts, pretensioners and force limiters are designed to help avoid injuries to the chest area. Active headrests In a rear impact, the passenger s lower back is pressed hard against the seat. A built-in unit triggers the Active headrests to move diagonally upward and forwards to provide extra head support. This alleviates neck impact and helps reduce the risk of whiplash. ISOFIX seat fixing Seats incorporate special anchor points, including a top tether that helps prevent the seat tipping forward. These provide a safe and convenient way of correctly securing ISOFIX child seats (available from your Toyota dealer). Smart Entry & Start System Instead of a conventional key, the Smart Entry & Start System features a transmitter that allows you to unlock the doors by pulling the handle and lock them again by pressing a button. To start or stop the engine, simply press the Start/Stop button. All you need to do is carry the Smart Entry key in your pocket or handbag. Manual transmission Toyota s manual transmissions are designed for precise, smooth gear changes. Efficiency can easily be maximised yet power is always at hand for overtaking. The result is an engaging and dynamic driving experience. Stop & Start System The Stop & Start System automatically stops the engine when your vehicle is stationary and in neutral at a red light, for example, or in a similar situation. This improves fuel efficiency and reduces exhaust gas emissions. The engine is immediately restarted when you press the clutch. 36

37 Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) airbags This model is fitted with seven airbags. They include driver s knee airbag, SRS airbags for both driver and passenger, side airbags for the front seats, and SRS curtain shield airbags covering both the front and rear seat passengers. Traction Control (TRC) If you accelerate too hard and cause the drive wheels to lose grip and begin spinning, TRC will automatically reduce engine power and control brake force to help restore traction. Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) VSC automatically activates each individual brake as needed and controls engine output to help maintain stability and prevent skidding when turning sharply or cornering on slippery road surfaces. Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) ABS prevents the wheels from locking while braking. EBD complements this by optimising brake force distribution between each wheel to compensate for different loads. Together the two systems help you to maintain steering control when braking heavily. Brake Assist (BA) If you attempt an emergency stop, BA will detect this and apply additional brake pressure. This enables ABS to work to its maximum potential. All Wheel Drive (AWD) In normal road conditions, drive is through the front wheels, but on loose or slippery surfaces the system automatically and continuously distributes the torque between front and rear wheels to optimise traction and driving stability and to maximise fuel economy. 37

Toyota quality service Your Toyota retailer is here to help and guide you in all your service requirements. Your Urban Cruiser will need a full Health and Safety check, dependent on driving style and conditions, up to once every two years or 30,000 km (whichever comes sooner). An intermediate Health and Safety check is necessary every year or 15,000 km (whichever comes sooner). Comprehensive warranty 3-year vehicle warranty covers any defect caused by a manufacturing or assembly fault. It is valid for 3 years of normal use or 100,000 km, whichever comes first, with no mileage limitation for the first year. If the car is immobilised due to a breakdown (as a result of a defect covered under warranty), you will also be covered for the cost of towing your vehicle to the nearest authorised Toyota repairer. 3-year paint warranty covers surface rust and paint defects appearing on any of the painted body panels as a result of a fault in materials for a period of 3 years, regardless of mileage. 12-year anti-perforation warranty covers against perforation of the bodywork (from inside to outside) that develops due to corrosion caused by faults in materials or workmanship, regardless of mileage. 38
