The Connecting Rod length can be varied by means of the two holes, ¾ inches apart, at each end (Ref. A and B). The Anchor Clevis can also be adjusted in this manner. It contains two holes inches apart (Ref. K and L) for maximum adjustment. The table shows the adjustments that are obtained by connecting these holes in accordance with the letter code indicated. Piston Assembly Maintenance Procedure A. If piston body is of the WABCO riveted design, as shown below, replace with magneformed piston and parts referenced 9 & 0 (Lock Plug Pc and Lock Ring Pc ). B. If piston body is of the magneformed design, proceed as follows: Location of letters PF. If the piston body has the letters PF shown cast or stamped on the non-pressure side of the flat surface near the O.D., the piston is of current design and does not require upgrading.. If the piston body does not show the letters PF, it should be replaced or, as an alternative, a bead of weld may be applied around the circumference at the hollow rod-piston joint. (See illustration.) RIVETED MAGNEFORMED Weld at joint a. The anodizing on the surface of the piston should be removed. This can be done by machining a groove around the circumference at the hollow rod-piston joint. The groove should not be cut as deep as the wall thickness of the hollow rod. If machining of the groove is not possible, the anodizing can be removed by grinding a few thousandths of an inch of metal at the joint. b. a / inch diameter weld rod, alloy 404, should be used in the welding operation. C. After cleaning and prior to reassembly of the piston, apply sealant to Lock Plug threads. WABCO recommends Mobil Jointite Pipe Joint Compound or equivalent. F009A Page 7 of 8 October 0
