1.0 INTRODUCTION These rules are designed to allow oval tracks of all sizes to be part of a uniform racing program. Personal, Club, and Commercial tracks are all welcome. Equipment parameters are established so that local availability of parts is not an issue. Creating uniform car build rules allows drivers to be scored against each other nationally, and also allows those that travel to other SCORA events to know ahead of time what to build. Included here are packages for 13 divisions based on 4 platforms. Tracks need not run all the divisions. They can pick and choose. 2.0 EXCLUSIVITY Only SCORA events count towards points totals. Drivers in those events do not need to be SCORA drivers to participate, however, their cars must be in compliance with the rules. Only SCORA drivers will receive points and be scored nationally. Example A SCORA race is held. 6 drivers enter, but only two are SCORA members. All 6 cars must be in compliance with that division s rules. Only the two SCORA drivers receive national points. The track is free is to award local non- SCORA points to the other 4 drivers. Tracks may participate in any other series or sanctioning body s events. SCORA is not in competition with any other group, and we believe that multiple sanctioning bodies are good for promoting slot car racing. SCORA races may be held on the same day as other events. We will gladly help promote those other bodies in our race reports if they wish. 3.0 COMPETITION FORMAT SCORA does not dictate your racing program. Heat length, race duration, and scoring method are up to the host track s race director. What works on an 8 lane banked track with computerized timing may not be feasible on a 2 lane home track. SCORA asks only that you send a picture of the line-up and the race winner. Member tracks receive a form for calculating the points and submitting results. Note - Member tracks who need help getting set up can receive help from SCORA. Our goal is to help those who have never hosted an organized event get started. 4.0 MANUFACTURERS SCORA does not include, or exclude manufacturers. Where specific manufacturers are listed, it is to ensure that the bodies look relatively the same on the track, and to avoid unrealistically shaped that give a performance advantage. If you think we missed something, please send us the information. We want as many equipment choices as possible. Performance parameters are set up and in most cases any equipment that falls within the range can be used. Some manufacturers give SCORA drivers discounts. This does not mean that we spec their equipment. We do hope that you support them, as they support you and your track. Example You want to race one of the restricted divisions. You have an FK130 style motor that spins 21,000 rpm at 12 volts and no idea what it is. You re legal. SCORA2017 Slot Car Oval Racing Association Page 3 of 22
5.0 SCOPE OF DIVISIONS The 13 divisions are based on just 4 platforms, allowing a driver to race multiple divisions with minimal changes to the car. With just three cars, one extra motor, and one extra set of rear tires, you can race every division by simply changing the bodies, and in the narrow divisions, tires and motor. 6.0 PLATFORMS 6.1 Restricted 6.2 Open 6.3 Narrow These cars use a maximum rom motor of 21,000 and use Womp style chassis. Everything on the car is spec d except the crown gear. Racers may tune by selecting one of 5 different crown gears. Everything else is the same, and few modifications are permitted. This is a great entry level division, since the cars are all so close together. Tracks may spec one specific crown gear if they choose. These cars also manageable on smaller home tracks. Four body choices are available, and the body is all you need to change to run all 4 divisions. This is a simple, inexpensive way for new clubs to get going. These cars can use Womp style chassis, but major modifications are allowed. Custom chassis are also permitted as long as they conform to the specified dimensions (width, length, wheelbase). A wide range of high powered motors can be used, and there are more tire options available. Gears are unrestricted. These are very fast and a real challenge to drive. Restricted cars are legal in the Open division. These three divisions use a chassis like the Sprints Plus. Each division drives very differently with unique motor/tire configurations for each. Each division has its own body style. 6.4 True Scale Early Modifieds 21k motors and wide rear tire Sprint Cars Open motor rule and wide rear tire Indy Roadsters Open motor rule and narrow, hard rear tires This division is for the hobbyist who prefers more realistic scaled bodies than those available for the Womp platform. A variety of realistic aftermarket 1/32 scale bodies are available, and there are chassis options. These 3 divisions share one platform ruleset and require only a body change to race all three. 6 7.0 POINTS AND RANKINGS SCORA uses a points system that accounts for the size of the field. A hard fought third place finish in a ten car race will get more points than a win in a 3 car race. This gives clubs an incentive to recruit racers. 7.1 Points The basic formula is a 1 point bonus for a win, and a modifier for car count. Position Base Points Position Base Points Points formula base points + car count = total Examples: Driver A wins a 6 car race = 26 points Driver B places 3rd in an 8 car race = 25 points Driver C places last in a 20 car race points SCORA encourages tracks to try to limit features to 12 cars. Member tracks who need help figuring out how to run races with more drivers than lanes, run qualifiers, or how to set up lane rotations, can contact SCORA for advice and also additional resource material like automated score sheets and lane rotation charts. SCORA2017 Slot Car Oval Racing Association Page 5 of 22
7.2 Rankings Drivers points total for a series are their best 5 races out of 6 (drop your low race). This minimizes a poor finish due to equipment failure, and also allows a racer to miss one event without a serious penalty. 7.3 Breaking Ties Track Championship In the event two drivers have the same number of points, the tie will be broken as follows: The steps will be applied in sequence until the tie is broken. Most wins Add in dropped race Calculate points without car count modifier Sudden death shootout National Points In the event two drivers have the same number of points, the tie will be broken as follows: The steps will be applied in sequence until the tie is broken. Most wins Add in dropped race Calculate points without car count modifier Overall national points total among All divisions Sudden Death Shootout The race director will select two lanes. The drivers will race those two lanes for a set time duration set by the race director. When the time elapses, the drivers will stop and swap lanes with their cars in the same position in which they ended Heat 1. Heat 2 will run for the same duration as Heat 1. Whoever is ahead when the time expires wins. 8.0 SCHEDULING AND SERIES DURATION 8.1 Series Length All SCORA points championships will consist of 6 races. 8.2 Schedule To facilitate club members lives and other commitments, SCORA does not set start and end dates for each division. You may run the 6 races any time you like during the season. Some clubs do a race weekend and run all 6 races in one event. Others spread it out. The choice is yours. The SCORA season begins in February and ends in November. Each year, SCORA will send the dates out in December. SCORA tracks may schedule any series they wish during that time period. SCORA2017 Slot Car Oval Racing Association Page 6 of 22
8.3 Procedure The track will send notification to SCORA when they have set their start date for any division. At the beginning of each race, the track will take a picture of the field. At the end of the race, the track will take a picture of the winner or top 3. After each race, the track will send SCORA the pictures and a copy of the race score sheet (provided by SCORA). SCORA will post the track information, driver information, results and points publicly. At the conclusion of the series, SCORA will send the track a recognition package for the track and the champion. SCORA2017 Slot Car Oval Racing Association Page 7 of 22

11.0 NARROW DIVISION This ruleset uses one platform, but creates three very different cars in terms of handling characteristics. The Early Modifieds are great for new drivers. The motor is restricted but you get a fat rear tire. The Indy Roadsters allow a wide variety of motors, but the narrow, hard rear tire limits grip and necessitates a drift style of racing. The Sprint Cars are wild animals with big horsepower and the fat rear tires to lay down grip. Two motors, and two sets of tires are all you need to transition to transition your roller through all 3 configurations Axles 1/8th solid steel axles. Axle length may be shortened.
