4 PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION The vibrations of a reversable plate compactor are generated by counter-rotating eccentric weights located in a housing and bolted directly to the bottom plate. The housing is centrally mounted to the bottom plate and the eccentric weights can be aligned to change the "direction of vibration", this allows forward motion, stand still and reverse motion. Changing the direction of travel is done hydraulically with a single lever at the operator handle. Fig. Direction of vibration The hydraulic pump is mounted on the engine. The pump supplies pressure to move the piston in the vibration shaft. When the piston is fully open, weights changed over, the machine moves forward. To change direction, the pump flow goes direct to the reservoir. A return spring in the vibration shaft presses back the piston that changes over the weights, and the machine moves in reverse Fig. Eccentric weights. Hydraulic pump. Piston. Hydraulic engine 4. 7 HYDRAULIC SYSTEM Checking hydraulic tank oil level.. The oil level should be at the middle of the sight glass. Top off as required. Use specified oil only. Fig. 5 Hydraulic system. Oil sight glass. If oil level is low, check connections and hoses.. No leakage from connections and hoses. Check if there is oil in the eccentric housing. 4. If there is hydraulic fluid in the eccentric housing. Fit inner bearing race and snap ring on control shaft (4) left side. Place shaft in housing. 5. Fit spacer (5) on shaft. 6. Fit bearing, inner race and snap ring, check shaft end play. 7. Clean inside of control shaft. 8. Fit piston () in shaft. 9. Fit pin () through the groove in the sleeve, the groove in the shaft and piston. Make sure the groove in the pin is center of shaft. 0. Fit set screw () to lock pin () in position. Use Loctite 4. Left side Right side. Fit spring (4), stop (5) and snap ring (6) in the shaft.. Check operation of spring and sleeve Fig. Control shaft. Adjust the gearwheels so that the marks coincide and then lock the gearwheels. Right side Left side 4. Fit bearing (), inner race () and snap ring (4) on driven shaft left side. 4. Fit spacer (6), inner race and snap ring on driven shaft right side. 5. Check driven shaft end play, this can be done by carefully hitting the shaft with a mallet. Fig. Drive shaft. Drive shaft. Lock using Loctite 70.. Fit the eccentric weight () of the drive shaft. Use screw Mx and washer. Torque-tighten the eccentric weight at 70 Nm. Lock using Loctite 70.. Fit the cylinder () on the left side. Seal with Loctite 574. Use screw M6x0 8.8 and Nordlock locking washer. Fig. Eccentric Element,. Eccentric weight. Cylinder 4. Mount the hydraulic motor () on the bearing cover (). Seal with Loctite 574. Use screw M6x0 8.8 and Nordlock locking washer.. Mount the bearing cover and hydraulic motor on the eccentric housing. Seal with Loctite 574. Use hexagonal socket screw M6x0 8.8 and Nordlock locking washer. Fig. 8 Hydraulic engine. Hydraulic engine. Cover Eccentric housing assembly. Use fluid gasket (Loctite 574) to seal between the eccentric housing and the bottom plate when assembling.. Mount the eccentric housing on the bottom plate. Fix it in position with 8 screws M6x60.9 torque 56 Nm, and screws Mx60.9 torque 04.8 Nm. Secure the screws with Loctite 4. Fig. 9 WLHALLEN

Mount inner ring and retainer ring on left side of the vibration shaft and place the shaft in the housing. Fig. Control shaft. Place keys () in the sleeve (). 4. Mount gearwheel () with retainer ring (4) on sleeve () 5. Mount bearings (5) in the sleeve. Punch mark 6. Mount the sleeve on the vibration shaft. NOTE. Center punch mark on gearwheel facing left. 15 ASSEMBLY OF ECCENTRIC ELEMENT Control shaft LH 700. Clean the inside of the vibration shaft.. Insert the piston () in the vibration shaft.. Insert pin () through the sleeve groove, shaft groove and piston. Ensure that the pin groove is at the center of the shaft. Left side Right side 4. Fit stop screw () for pin (). Lock using Loctite Fit inner ring (4) and retainer ring (5) on right side of the shaft. Fig.. Piston. Pin. Stop screw Driven shaft. Fit key () and set punch marks on the gearwheels opposite each other.. Mount gearwheels and locking ring on shaft. 4. Fit inner ring and locking ring on right side of shaft. Fig. 5 Driven shaft. NOTE. Chamfer inwards and press against the sleeve. Torque-tighten the eccentric weights at 70 Nm.. Fit spring (), stop () and locking ring (4) in the vibration shaft.. Check functioning of spring and sleeve. 4. Mount cylinder on the drive side. Seal with Loctite 574. Use screw M6x0 8.8 and Nordlock locking washer. 5. Fit the bearing covers on the pump side. Use screw M6x0 8.8 and Nordlock locking washer. 6 WLHALLEN

Mount the hydraulic motor () on the bearing cover (). Seal with Loctite 574. Use screw M6x0 8.8 and Nordlock locking washer.. Mount the bearing cover and hydraulic motor on the eccentric housing. Seal with Loctite 574. Use hexagonal socket screw M6x0 8.8 and Nordlock locking washer. Fig. Hydraulic engine. Hydraulic engine. Cover Eccentric housing assembly. Place the O ring () in the groove on the bottom plate () and lubricate it with grease (LGHQ /50) before fitting.. Mount the eccentric housing () on the bottom plate. Fix it with 4 screws M6x00.9 torque 56 Nm. Secure the screws with Loctite 4. Fig.. O ring. Bottom plate. Eccentric housing 8 WLHALLEN

19 ASSEMBLY OF ECCENTRIC ELEMENT Filling oil in the eccentric housing. Fill with recommended oil to the right volume.. Tighten oil plug. Fig. Check eccentric element oil. Run the machine until the oil in the eccentric housing becomes warm.. Place a vessel underneath the oil plug. Unscrew the oil plug and tilt slightly, and oil should run from the hole. NOTE. Oil will run out immediately on loosening the plug if the piston gasket of the changeover cylinder is broken. Fig. 4.Oil level plug / oil filler plug WARNING When oil is warm there will be an overpressure in the oil chamber, take care when opening plug. Oil drain plug is placed at the same side as the hydraulic motor. Draining oil from the eccentric housing. Tilt the machine, unscrew the oil plug and drain the oil from the eccentric chamber. Save the oil and dispose of it in an approved manner.. Clean sealing surfaces. Fig. 5 WLHALLEN 9

20 TROUBLESHOOTING Low VPM or machine does not vibrate Checking the connection between engine and pump Check eccentric element The machine is not working at full power. Check oil level in the hydraulic tank. If low and there are no external leaks, check oil level in the eccentric housing. If hydraulic oil has entered the housing, the seal on the piston is damaged and must be replaced. Loosen hydraulic nose near cylinder or below check valve, and check that you have pressure when control valve lever is moved forward. There is pressure only when is stroked forward. If no pressure check the pump. The changeover angle of the eccentric weights is incorrect. Check the wear of the pin fitted through the sleeve on the vibration shaft. When assembling, it is essential that the marks on the gearwheels are in the correct position. The gearwheels are marked with a center punch. There is one mark on one gearwheel and two on the other. 0 WLHALLEN
