Electromagnetic flowmeter EMKO E - Quality design - High corrosion resistance - Reliable measurement principle Doc. no.: 70, en_cat_emkoe, 8/2015
Description Electromagnetic Flowmeter EMKO E consists of a sensor and transmitter. The whole system measures the volumetric flow rate by detecting the flow rate of conductive fluid that passes through the homogeneous magnetic field. The gauge is based on the principle of electromagnetic induction. It is designed to measure the flow of electrically conductive fluids. It is particularly useful where conventional mechanical gauges are not, due to the measuring principle is sufficiently reliable and accurate. Properties Magnetic flowmeter EMKO E is designed to measure the volumetric flow of any conductive fluid, without obstacles and obstructions in the flow profile. Wide choice of materials, execution of individual wetted parts makes it ideal for almost all possible applications - from highly corrosive, to a suspension containing fibers (eg. wood pulp) very hard to measure by other types of flowmeters. Flowmeter EMKO E allows to use a measurement that is independent of changes in density, pressure, temperature and viscosity of the measured medium. All flowmeters EMKO E are characterized by high accuracy, stability and repeatability. They are made for easier and cheaper use and maintenance. Fully interchangeable transducers and sensors simplify installation and do not require, as compared to standard devices on the market, a separate calibration devices, manual reset or periodic calibration. Principle Basic physical characterization instruments is based on Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction, the moving conductor in an electromagnetic field induces an electric voltage. E=Kbdv The induced voltage E is directly proportional to the speed V conductor, conductor width D and the magnetic field B. Coil generating the magnetic field are located on opposite sides of the tube. The medium passes through the tube at an average speed V and the electrodes sense the induced voltage. The width of the conductor is represented by a tube diameter of the flowmeter. Non-conductive lining inside of the tube prevents short circuits. The only variable is the speed of the medium V, because the geometry of the device and the magnetic field are constant. Therefore, the measured voltage E proportional to the speed of media. This value is further transferred to the electronic circuits for further processing. The tube flowmeter is installed in-line in the pipe (horizontal or vertical). Coils positioned on opposite sides of tube flowmeter generate the necessary magnetic field. Conductive fluid generates electrical voltage after passing through a magnetic field. The electric field is measured by two electrodes. The transmitter controls the coil so as to generate a homogeneous magnetic field. It also ensures all steps necessary to correctly measure and interpret electrical voltage to the measuring electrodes. The output from the transmitter is then directly proportional to the velocity of the liquid. 2 of 16
Tube Tube flowmeters from EMKO feature compact coils wide range of liners and electrode materials, different variants of grounding and protecting rings. Electromagnetic Flowmeter EMKO E uses pulsed DC excitation. This technology provides high performance and low power consumption. This option performs an automatic reset to compensate for changes in the conditions of the process itself. Accuracy ± 0.5% of measured value in the speed range of 0.3 to 10 m / s. It includes the effects of linearity, hysteresis, repeatability, and calibration uncertainty. Accuracy is ± m / s minimum measurement capabilities up to 0.3 m / s. (optional mean linear velocity of the medium 0.08 m / s). When demand for higher accuracy, eg % meter is supplied with a calming pipe. It is carried multipoint recalibration. Designing liner materials Curve of meter errors We offer a wide variety of material performance liners flowmeter for every application, teflon (PTFE), rubber, polypropylene. Lining Abrasion Chemical resistance Temperature Food industry PP bad good -30 C + 80 C yes RUBBER good little -20 C + 90 C no PTFE little great -30 C C yes Protecting rings Against damage necked lining sensor of solid particles can be used protecting rings which ensure minimizing violations of the lining when installing the flowmeter, in particular Teflon. When using a protecting ring is not necessary to provide other means earthing is already functional The protective rings are supplied on the basis of customer requirements. 3 of 16
Designing electrode materials EMKOMETER embodiment offers different material electrodes for different types of applications, e.g. material 17348, titanium, platinum, tantaliridium. Since the corrosion resistance of materials which are in current tables of chemical resistance, it may not correspond to the real resistance, drove this material is used as electrode flowmeter. On request it is possible to deliver a removable electrodes. In the case of precious linings of the flowmeter and the assumption of more frequent exchanges of electrodes, we recommend sensors with a removable cover. Media suitability The minimum required conductivity - 5μS / cm. Temperature, pressure, vacuum, chemical composition, impurities and their ability to adhere, abrasiveness must be in accordance with an embodiment of the sensor. Sensor Minimum conductivity of measured liquid Nominal pressure 5µS/cm Standard 1,6 MPa Special version 2,5 MPa Optional higher Protection IP 65 Standard 6m Length of connection cables Special version max. 25m Straight pipe lengths 5DN before and 3DN after the detector (see. picture Picture 1 Sensor process connection: using flanges according to DIN EN , ASME, DIN or according to other standards. Flowmeter in a sandwich version is inserted between the flanges. On request, the connection may be realized by a thread or sleeve. Connections may be made of e.g. carbon steel, stainless steel, plastic etc. 4 of 16
Version for food industry EMKO E model is available in a version for food purposes using Tri-Clover, TriClamp adapters. To prevent adhesion of the particles in the medium flowmeter is recommended to reduce the brightness to a smaller size (picture 2). Table. Straight sections before and after the meter. Electromagnetic flowmeters are generally less susceptible to change in the velocity profile of the medium than the other types of apparatus. To guarantee the accuracy of the published under varying operating conditions, it is necessary to install a flowmeter with a pipe, which is at least a straight stretch of five pipe diameters upstream of the device and a three pipe diameters downstream of the flowmeter (picture 1). These straight lengths calming pipes are usually sufficient for installation behind the knees, constrictions, etc. 5 of 16
Picture 2 Grounding tube For proper function of each flowmeter it is necessary to observe the principles of proper grounding. They vary depending on the material and conduction pipeline. If the flowmeter is joined to the conductive pipes connect earthing bolts of the flanges with connecting piping through wires or connections provide through lock washers under the head and nut fasteners, which connects the flow meter with the conduit (picture 3). If the flowmeter is installed to the pipes, where the medium is not in contact with the electrically conductive wall, e.g., plastic pipe or tubing contains stuffing. Then we use grounding rings that we put between the meter, gaskets and connecting pipes flanges. These grounding rings conductively connect with flanges and the body of the flowmeter. Another possibility of grounding media are grounding electrodes, which are normally inserted into the body of meter sensor Picture 3 Full sensor submersion by medium without venting Air in sensor causes inaccurate measurement unstable and therefore it is necessary to place the sensor in a horizontal or rising part of the branch pipe. Or place it in a siphon (picture 4). We recommend that even if the liquid is not flowing, the sensor is permanently flooded. Picture 4 6 of 16
Designing the size of the flowmeter Size of the flowmeter is one of the most important parameter because it affects the speed of the medium. The mean linear velocity in the pipe should match the subsequent table. You must choose a tube size that generates the optimum measurement conditions and the best possible results. Even outside these ranges the flow meter can measure with very good accuracy, please contact EMKOMETER. Table. Specifying the size of the flowmeter. A separate version of the sensor and transmitter is chosen eg. if the installation location and its surroundings: Temperature is too low or too high (eg. due to the climate) Presence of vibrations Possibility of flooding, impact of weather Transmitter is equipped with a display, that would not be seen Compact design 7 of 16
