1 Installation Motor driven valve Before the system may be taken into use, this manual must be studied carefully. Intended use The Medicvent Motor valve is intended to firstly be used together with the Medicvent Central system. The valve s function is to regulate the flow in the suction outlets in the OR. There are two types of control panels for controlling the valve, either a stepless control for smoke or a 3-way position control panel for anaesthetic gas. The Motor valve can be used for other purposes if the instructions in this installation guide are followed. 2

4 Installation Installation instructions: The motor valve is available in 230V or 115V versions. The valve is intended for installation indoors in a non humid and non aggressive environment. It should be installed in a way that makes it possible to dismount the valve later. If there is a risk that the valve might be exposed to outer contamination some form of cover should be installed. When the pipe system is installed the open ends should always be covered with lids or something similar to avoid getting debris in the system. Before the valve is connected to the pipe system, the system should be blown through to make sure there is no debris in the pipes. This is to avoid debris damaging the valve or the fan. The valve is connected to a grounded 230V 60 Hz or a 115 V 60 Hz outlet with a mains cable. The Auxiliary cable should be a five-wired 0, 25 mm² cable with a screen shield connected on the valve side only, do not connect screen to earth. The control cable connects with screws on contact to control panel. To connect to the motor valve the control cables wires is soldered to DIN-contact (male) witch connects to the motor valves DIN-contact (female). Mount the silencer with a double connector on the valve and connect the assembly to an Ø 50 mm pipe system to the OR. Mount a piece (70 mm) of Ø32mm tubing with a 32/50 mm connector in the OR and connect to a ceiling supply unit. If the valve has to be mounted nearby the OR and the is little room for Ø50mm tubing A nipple can be mounted in double connector for an Ø40 mm tube to the OR. The silencer can for special cases be mounted between motor valve and the OR. It must be possible reach the silencer for control of leakage and possible exchange. N.B.! Try to have as large space as possible around the valve when installing. It must be possible to disconnect the pipe system for repairing the valve. N.B.! The auxiliary cable must be shielded. To avoid the risk of ground fault in the OR the auxiliary cables screen shield must not be connected on earth other than at the valve. 4

5 Installation N.B.! Before the auxiliary cable can be connected to the valve the control panel (or the control component specified) must be connected. N.B.! In the valves closed position it isn t completely sealed. This is done to obtain a constant under-pressure in the whole pipe-system. Check of the Motor valve control cable. The measurements must be done before the control panel is connected to the Motor valve. Measure the cable s contact and crosscheck the measurements to see if they comply with the ones in the table below. Incorrect values might cause damages to the valve. If the values differ from the ones on the table the fault (which probably depends on shifted conductors or bad connection in the auxiliary cable) must be corrected before connection of the auxiliary cable to the valve. 6 Installation To the motor valve a DIN-plug must be used, (the cable wires are soldered). On the control panel the cable wires is connected with a screw connection. Installation instruction, control cable: 1. White (+) 2. Grey 3. Yellow 4. Green (-) 1(+) 4(-) Brown 5 2 4(-) 3 1(+) N.B.! The control cable s screen shield is pinned with the included screw clamp. NB! The control cables screen shield shall be cut along with the outer protection layer. 6

7 Installation Example of installation: This picture shows all Motor driven valves mounted together. This makes installation easier and provides a better view of the valves for trouble shooting. The motor valve must be mounted with the valve attachment, no other method s is allowed. Control cable between junction box and control panel in OR. Main cable Adjustment: The motor driven valve is controlled by either a 3-way Control panel DM (192014) or a step less Control panel Smoke gas (192016). The valve can also be controlled by applying 0-10 V over pin 1(+) and 4(-) on the DIN contact female. It is possible to connect Motor valve and Control panel to a hospital computer system. When the valve is closed there still is a little flow through the valve. This small flow maintains a negative pressure in the pipe system between the Motor valve and OR and prevents any escape of contaminated air to the OR when the self closing valve is opened. 7

8 Trouble shooting NB! 1. The valves cover shall not be opened, be sure that the sealing tape is not broken. 2. Color locked details shall not be loosened. Factory warranty can be questioned if point 1-2 is not followed. Step-by-step trouble shooting If the valve doesn t comply with the settings on the control device (doesn t move when you adjust the potentiometers on the control panel). 1. Check the function with another control panel. If the valve still doesn t work. 2. Measure the control cable installation (page 8). If the valve still doesn t work. 2. Check the mains fuses (T 0.4 A). Pict Check the circuit fuse (T 0,3 A). Pict 1. If the valve still doesn t work. Change the valve (Medicvent has an exchange system for the valves). Change the Control panel Test with another Control panel Repair cable connections Measure the Control cable Connect the mains power. Is the mains power on? Change the fuse. Is the mains fuse intact? Change the fuse. Is the circuit fuse intact? The valve works ok. Send the valve for repair. 9
