3 HOW IT WORK The heart of every camera lowering system is the DICONNECT UNIT. pecially designed mechanical components assure precise alignment and positioning of the camera each time it is returned to its operating position after the camera has been serviced. A multi-contact connector intrinsically handles all the functions of the camera including power supply and video signal. Mechanical components, together with the connector, provide every DICONNECT UNIT with the features required for operating surveillance cameras at the highest level available for lowering systems. DICONNECT UNIT Precision cast high strength stainless steel guide post. High strength cast aluminum upper fixed portion of disconnect unit with specially designed tracking guide system and support notches. Precision cast-in-place stainless steel heavy duty alignment key. Precision cast stainless steel support arms. hown with the support pins secure in the notches of the tracking guide. Inclined helical guide surface. Engineered to provide smooth and precise interlocking between the tracking guide and the guide post. High strength cast aluminum lower moveable portion of disconnect unit. Pivoting upport Arms Twin supports (highlighted), precision cast in stainless steel, toggle as they move through a tracking guide to their final locked position. Once locked, they assure a balanced load without relying on cable tension, motor gearing, or braking devices. 3-Way tabilizing Guides Prior to connector engagement, there are three stepped alignment and stabilizing guides integrated into the Disconnect Unit. TEP 1: A cast stainless steel guide post initially aligns the moveable portion with the upper fixed portion. With the aid of an inclined helical surface, the Disconnect Unit rotates into its preset position. TEP 2: A heavy duty key on the main guide post enters a stabilizing slot to stop rotation and align the support arms and connector. TEP 3: Offset at 180 to the main guide post key, a second key and slot engage to finalize alignment and stabilize the Disconnect Unit immediately before the pins and sockets of the connector engage. 4 INTAATION AND OPERATING MANUA: 5 OPERATING TAGE OF DICONNECT UNIT When lowering or raising a surveillance camera, there are 5 basic steps, or stages that the Disconnect Unit goes through. The principal part responsible for moving the support arms through the 5 stages, is the TRACKING GUIDE. This guide is a precision cast series of angular surfaces strategically located to push the support arms in the required direction toward the center notches. The two Notches support the entire load of the camera and components when the support arms are in the OCKED stage. The drawing at right shows the path the support arms take through the tracking guide. Each shape of dot shown represents one of the 5 stages. RAIING UNOCKING OCKED OCKING OWERING 1 The first and most important stage is OCKED. Generally, all aspects of the ] operation of the Disconnect Unit will begin and end in the locked stage. In the locked position, the twin support arms hold all the weight of the surveillance camera. There is no tension on the operating cable, no locking of gears, and no pressure on braking devices to hold the camera secure in its operating position. The electrical and signal contacts are fully engaged and fully insulated and all camera functions are operational when the Disconnect Unit is OCKED. Notch One each side of tracking guide. The second stage is UNOCKING. Before lowering the camera, the Disconnect Unit must first be raised approximately 3/4 inch. During the slight raising operation, the support arms will be 2pushed to one side by the tracking guide to clear the support notches. prings inside both halves of the connector compress as the Disconnect Unit is raised. Electrical and signal contacts are still engaged during this stage. Each Disconnect Unit has a built-in positive stop that, when reached, is an indication to the operator to begin lowering the camera. Every time the Disconnect Unit is raised from the locked position, the support arms will move and unlock the Disconnect Unit. Remove both hand hole covers from pole. Then insert lowering tool into lower handhole. Disconnect camera cable quick link from eyebolt in side of pole Connect camera cable to lowering tool cable. Manually turn handle of winch (tighten cable) to lift camera about ¾. When increased tension is felt, reverse direction and lower camera Parkes Drive Broadview, I Phone Fax Page 2 P:\DONFIE\C Instruction\C Pole operating manual.doc

5 INTAATION AND OPERATING MANUA: 5 OPERATING TAGE OF DICONNECT UNIT 3 With the Disconnect Unit unlocked, OWERING is the next stage. As the camera is lowered, the bottom portion of the Disconnect Unit begins to separate from the tracking guide and the top portion of the Disconnect Unit. Next, the electrical and signal connector disconnects followed by the coming apart of all stabilizing guides. All the weight of the camera and equipment now hangs from the control cable. There are no live electrical contacts to contend with as the camera is lowered to the desired height above the ground for maintenance. After camera has been lowered several feet, drill can be attached to winch by first removing the winch handle. Do not raise and lower camera in adverse weather conditions and in heavy winds. Camera may hit the pole. Cleaning and repair work can be accomplished at ground level. OWERING After maintenance to the camera, RAIING is the forth of the operating stages. During this part, the camera and moveable portion 4of the Disconnect Unit are raised to the top. As the camera slowly approaches the upper portion of the Disconnect Unit, the drill assembly must be removed. The camera must be manually cranked the rest of the way. The control cable initially pre-positions the main guide post in the center hole of the tracking guide. With continued raising, the guide post centers itself in the tracking guide and rotates into its original orientation as the guide post s cast-in-place key follows the inclined helical surface of the tracking guide. ustained raising of the camera will engage the next stabilizing key and guide slot of the Disconnect Unit as the support arms toggle through the tracking guide. Electrical and signal pins and sockets of the connector engage as the last step before the lower moveable portion of the Disconnect Unit reaches the very top. There is still tension on the control cable at this time and the camera is operational. Because there is still tension on the control cable and the Disconnect Unit is not locked in place, the system must never be left in the RAIING stage. Proceed to the final stage: OCKING. The final phase of the 5 operating stages is OCKING. During this stage, the camera must OCKING be lowered approximately 3/4 5inch so that the support arms of the lower portion of the Disconnect Unit move toward the center notches of the tracking guide. prings within the socket half of the connector that were compressed during the final part of the raising stage, are now extending and exerting force on the pin half of the connector to assure complete isolation and insulation of the contacts. After the slight lowering operation, the support arms are secured in the notches. The Disconnect Unit is now in the OCKED stage. There should be slack on the cable. The Drill motor must not be used in this final stage. The speed of the drill may cause damage to the disconnect unit. The camera cable and the lowering tool cable may now be disconnected. Use the upper handhole to disconnect the two cable assembies. Attach the camera cable to the eye bolt parking stand in the pole with the quick link. Close the quick link. Remove the lowering tool from the handhole and put the covers back on the handhole Parkes Drive Broadview, I Phone Fax Page 3 P:\DONFIE\C Instruction\C Pole operating manual.doc

6 INTAATION AND OPERATING MANUA: CAMERA CONNECTION BOX Two piece hinging cast aluminum splicing box has a large capacity for camera power and signal leads. Features three vibration resistant ¼ turn stainless steel fasteners and safety catches. To open connection box, first turn the three fasteners ¼ of a turn using a flat head screwdriver. The box also contains two latches to keep the bottom half from swinging all of the way open. By pressing in on the two latches, the two halves can open all the way. The bottom of the connection box contains a 1½ pipe thread for mounting a camera to it. The box might have to be drilled and tapped to accept other types of camera mounting and pan/tilt motor assemblies. POE TOP CONNECTION BOX The POE TOP CONNECTION BOX is made of cast aluminum. The box is 8-inch diameter with the bottom portion made to fit over a 4 O.D. Diameter pole top tenon. It is secured to the pole using stainless steel set screws. The connection box is a cast aluminum cover retained by stainless steel set screws. The box shall incorporate bosses for direct mounting of cord strain relief brackets and cord grips. It has room for a terminal block fitted plate (if applicable) for electrical and signal wire terminations. IGNA CABE One end of the pole signal cable is attached to the socket connector in the disconnect unit. The signal cable never moves when the camera is raised and lowered. The other end of the signal cable terminates at the base of the pole or at the cabinet. The signal cable shall be installed into the pole to never interfere with the raising and lowering cable. There shall be slack in the signal cable in the divided arm. When the arm is fastened to the pole, the signal cable shall go immediately up into the pole top connection box and fastened to the strain relief. The signal cable should be either in conduit securely fastened to the inside of the pole (conduit provided by installer), or fastened to the inside wall of the pole not in conduit. If the signal cable is not in conduit, it is important to securely fasten the signal cable onto the strain relief in the pole top junction box. The cable should then be pulled very tightly along the edge of the pole out of the way of the lowering cable and lowering tool. If the pole has eye bolts at the top and close to the base, pull signal cable through the eye bolts to the base of the pole. After signal cable is pulled tightly in pole, wire tie (or other fastener) cable to bottom eyebolt tightly. The pole top connection box with strain relief can be rotated to position the signal cable away from the lowering cable and lowering tool. At the base of the pole under the lowest hand hole, the signal cable should be attached tightly to have no slack in the pole. WARNING: If the signal cable has slack in the pole, the signal cable might rub against the raising and lowering cable, causing a short in the signal cable and malfunction of the system. POE AND POE MOUNTED ARM FITTER Mount the arm to the pole using the two ½ bolts, nuts, and washers provided. The lowering cable and the signal cable should be uncoiled and inserted into the pole. It is very important that they do not wind around each other or touch. The signal cable should go directly up to the pole top connection box from the arm. 7 INTAATION AND OPERATING MANUA: POE continued. Bolt the arm to the pole top 4 tenon welded to the top of the pole. Before tightening the arm to the tenon, use a level to make sure the arm is mounted level from side to side and up and down to the pole. When the camera comes down, the camera should be hanging plumb. Check the continuity of all signal wires and coax from end to end of the signal cable before putting up the pole. Use a plumb line when mounting the pole onto the anchor bolts or into the ground on direct burial poles. The camera should be mounted last after the system is checked to make sure it is operating properly. When the arm is mounted onto the pole and the pole is put up, make sure there are 35 lbs. of weight or a pull line attached to the disconnect unit to disengage the unit from the locked position. The camera junction box should be mounted after the pole is in the upright position. Make sure to attach camera junction box properly to the disconnect unit to avoid misalignment of holes and to avoid camera junction box from being mounted at an angle. Test the system with the lowering tool. Raise up and down several times (locking the system and unlocking as many times as needed) to make sure system is operating smoothly. Mount the camera to the camera junction box and connect wires together inside the camera junction box. Make sure system raises and lowers properly. Camera must hang plumb and the arm and pole must be mounted level in order for the system to work properly. OWERING CABE AND OWERING TOO The owering cable should be uncoiled and dropped through the rectangular opening in the top tenon, before the arm is bolted to the tenon. After the cable is inserted in the pole and the arm is bolted to the pole, connect the chainlink by the handhole to the eyebolt in the pole. Make sure that the lowering cable is not wound around the signal cable. Then bolt arm to pole. In the disconnect unit, pull on the cable clamp. oosen the 2 screws holding the cable in place and pull on the cable. Continue pulling on the cable until most of the slack has been removed. Retighten the 2 screws and put cable clamp back. Put electrical tape on cable leaving about ¾ sticking out of the cable clamp. Cut the lowering cable with proper tool. Cut it in the center of the electrical tape to avoid cable from fraying. Approximately 6 of total slack in the lowering cable is acceptable. Before pole is up, check electrical and signal continuity of all wires from pole base end through connector, to camera end. 9 INTAATION AND OPERATING MANUA: OPERATION OF THE MUTI-CONTACT CONNECTOR MUTI-CONTACT CONNECTOR HOWN IN OCKED POITION ½ D ½ D D CONTACT AND WIRE Connector provides positions for up to 29 electrical and signal contacts. Positions are divided to accept size no. 12, no. 16, or no. 20 contacts. There are three connector configurations available. A configuration with 4 no. 16 contacts, 4 no. 12 contacts, and 21 positions for no. 20 contacts, a configuration with 8 no. 16 contacts and 21 no. 20 contacts, and a configuration with 8 no. 12 contacts, and 21 no. 20 contacts. Contacts and wire sizes are matched with the camera and component requirements. Contacts are securely contained within a polymer body. Upper and lower groups of wires and contacts are sealed from the external environment using glandular seals around the wires and a soft gasket at the line of separation. ignal shielding and drain wires are continuous. Contact type and arrangement within the connector permits use of special wiring that may be designated by the type of camera used. Wiring integrity of the overall system is maintained by providing coax cables to meet or exceed the capacitance and attenuation of that for the camera. Coax connectors are provided where EECTRICA required for quick AND IGNA connection of the camera. MUTI-CONTACT CONNECTOR HOWN IN OCKING OR UNOCKING POITION Distance D is the total distance that the disconnect unit must travel to lock and unlock. This unique design (patent pending) by Camera owering ystems provides spring assisted upper and lower portions of the connector that splits the total travel distance in half, thereby equalizing the retaining forces required to assure a uniform seal. Because the upper half, the socket contacts, and the lower half, the pin contacts, float within the disconnect unit, the connector is isolated from vibrations that would affect signal discontinuity. OCKED POITION When the disconnect unit is in the locked position, the multi-contact connector has all contacts engaged. prings are slightly compressed to provide equal and constant pressure against the two halves to maintain an environmental seal. OCKING POITION & UNOCKING POITION During the operation to lock or unlock the disconnect unit, the springs of both halves of the connector compress in equal proportions and stainless steel OCKET CONTACT CRIMPED TO INDIVIDUA WIRE OCKET IDE WIRE EA INE OF EPARATION WIRE EA PIN IDE PIN CONTACT CRIMPED TO INDIVIDUA WIRE WIRE 2150 Parkes Drive Broadview, I Phone Fax Page 7 P:\DONFIE\C Instruction\C Pole operating manual.doc

10 OPERATION OF THE MUTI-CONTACT CONNECTOR guide posts move through linear bearings as the support arms of the disconnect unit move into the proper position within the tracking guide. Electrical and signal contacts remain fully engaged and the camera is still operational. RAIING POITION The connector assembly utilizes precision machined stainless steel guides to align the two halves of the connector. These are used in addition to the 3-way guides of the disconnect unit. A set of alignment posts built into the connector halves serve as the final guides to assure that all pin and socket contacts are perfectly lined up before engagement. OWERING POITION As the disconnect unit begins to unlock, the springs expand and the guide posts begin to separate. The last parts of the connector to disengage are the electrical and signal contacts. Any ground wires or shielding use a longer pin contact to assure that they are the very last to disengage before the camera is lowered for servicing. 19 1. Uncoiling RIGHT METHOD Place the coil on a swift or turntable, cut the tiebands and pull the outer end of the rope away in a straight line, allowing the swift or turntable to rotate. (ee Fig. 1). 2. Uncoiling -- RIGHT METHOD Cut and remove the tie-bands and roll the coil along the ground leaving the rope lying straight on the ground. 3. Uncoiling WRONG METHOD 4. Uncoiling WRONG METHOD Do not uncoil as shown in figs. 3 or 4 by placing the coil on the ground and pulling either the outside or inside ends of the rope away. The illustrations show the results. Kinks will be formed and the rope may be ruined. (ee figs. 9,10, and 11). 5. Unreeling WRONG METHOD Do not tilt the reel and lap-off the rope from the top side as shown in fig. 8. Kinks will be formed. 6. Unreeling RIGHT METHOD Put a shaft through the reel and jack up both ends to allow it to rotate freely. Pull the free end of the rope away in a straight line as shown in fig Place the reel on its side on a vertical spindle and pull the free end of the rope in a straight line as the wheel rotates. KINK A kink is caused by the rope taking a spiral set due to unnatural twist in the rope and is probably most frequently caused by faulty coiling and unreeling. 8. This shows the first stage of a kink. At this point, it can still be corrected and damage to the rope prevented by throwing out the loop. 9. This shows the result after the kink has been pulled through. The rope is now permanently damaged. 10. This shows the final result after the rope has been straightened. The wires and strands are permanently misplaced and the relative balance between individual wires and strands has been disturbed. No matter how slight the damage may appear from a superficial examination, the rope has been distorted and can never give the maximum life. 20 CDP ERIE PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE Upon installation of the system, periodic preventive maintenance should be done to the system. The following is a list of preventative maintenance operations and schedule: OWERING TOO 1. The tool should be kept in a clean and dry area. 2. During every usage of the owering Tool (T-1R, T-2R), the raising and lowering cable should be checked for kinks, cut strands, and any irregularities, each time the tool is used. 3. The gears on the winch should be checked for gearing grease. If the gear box looks dry, gear grease should be applied on the gears only, with a small paint brush. The grease should be applied liberally covering all gears. Recommended grease should be UNIWRI 2 product #C Manufactured by: Fuchs ubricants. (PH: OI) This grease can be obtained through Camera owering ystems. 4. A drop of 10W-30 oil should be applied in opening of casement (see sign on winch). Only apply one drop annually. After applying, crank the winch at least 3 revolutions to distribute the oil. 5. Check the cable for any kinks, bends, or stray cut wires. This will tell you if cable is rubbing on an obstruction. If cable is damaged, it will weaken the cable, possibly causing the cable to break. Damaged cables should be replaced. ee attached cable handling page. Handle wire rope with gloves to avoid possible hand cuts caused by stray wires. DICONNECT UNIT 1. Each time the disconnect unit is lowered, check the condition of the system. If there are any signs of irregularities, contact the factory. 2. Keep the guide pin and rest button on the locking cams cleaned and well lubricated with: uper ube multipurpose grease with yncolon, manufactured by YNCO CHEMICA CORP or equivalent. 3. The locking cams should be checked each time the camera is lowered. Ensure that the shoulder screw is tightened. 4. Check all screws, nuts and fastenings are tight. 5. Check composite cable for any irregularities Parkes Drive Broadview, I PH: Fax Page 18 Preventative Maintenance doc
