1 Scissors Lift Rebuild PM Purpose Forms Scope To describe the procedure for rebuilding of the scissors lift assemblies of the Hassia filler. N/A Monitoring Frequency As required Parts List: Scissor lift rebuilds are performed by Aseptic Line Mechanics as part of the PM program. Description Position SAP# Bin Loc. 1. 2 Check Parts Inspect the parts before beginning the rebuild. Faulty parts must be returned to the supplier and must not be used. Step 1. Check bushing installation in the scissor arms. The bushings are slightly wider than the arms and should be installed so they stick out on the inside of the arms while being flush with the outside of the arms The bushing must be flush to the outside surface of the arms. (See below.) The outside of the arm is the side that will face away from the lever when the scissors arms are assembled The bushing should be raised on the inside surface of the arm. (See below.) 3 Step 2. Check center shaft/scissor arm/ eccentric fit Check the fit of the center shaft to upper scissor arms by sliding the center shaft through the bearing races. (See below.) 2.2. Carefully align the shaft with the bushing and slide it through to check the fit. Do not force the shaft. Do not mar the surfaces of the shaft or bushing The shaft should slide freely through the busing. If the center shaft/scissor arm fit is not correct, do not use the arm Check the fit of the eccentric shaft to the large bushings on the lower scissor arms and the eccentric mounting plates. (See below.) 2.5. Carefully align the eccentric with the bushings and insert the shaft through the bushing. Do not force the eccentric. Do not mar the surfaces of the eccentric or bushing The eccentric should slide freely through the busing. 5 Bench Assembly of Scissors Lift: Step 1. Install bearing race in the lever. Using a flat piece of stock to protect the bearing, press it into the lever. Uncontrolled Copy When printed Page 5 of 13 Scissors Lift Rebuild

6 The installed race should be nearly flush to the lever on both sides. Step 2. Install the center shaft in the lever Align the flat in the center shaft with the set screw hole in the lever Install set screw with a jam nut. Use a 10 mm, 10x25, 1.5-pitch hex bolt. Make sure the set screw is properly seated on the center shaft flat before tightening Tighten the set screw with a 17 mm wrench. Uncontrolled Copy When printed Page 6 of 13 Scissors Lift Rebuild

7 2.4. Tighten the jam nut. Step 3. Grease all scissor arm bearings Thoroughly coat all bearing/races with FL G-2 lubricant: scissor arms (4), lever (1), and support plates (2) 3.2. 8 Step 4. Join the eccentric block to the lever Lay out the lever and the eccentric on the bench in the correct orientation: Eccentric: the raised lobe of the eccentric should face in, toward the lever and the center shaft. 9 4.2. Join the lever to the eccentric by attaching the lower scissor arms to the eccentric and the lever Position the raised side of the races on the inside, in contact with the eccentric Carefully align the eccentric with the bushing and insert the eccentric through the bushing. 10 Step 5. Attach the upper scissor arms to the center shaft Be sure to position the raised side of the races on the inside of the upper arms facing the lever Carefully align the center shaft with the bushing and push the upper arms onto the center shaft Slide a washer onto each side of the center shaft Install a snap ring onto each side of the center shaft over the washers. 11 Step 6. Install the eccentric mounting plates Before installing eccentric mounting plates, inspect them to determine which side should be positioned next to the eccentric: Inspect the mounting plate s races to determine if the race sticks out more on one side then the other. If there is a side where the race sticks out less then the other side, that side goes next to the eccentric. This will allow the washer, not the race, to buffer the friction between the scissor arm and mounting plate Place a washer the on the low-profile side of the race Carefully align the mounting plates with the eccentric and push the mounting plates with washers on the eccentric Do not force or jam the mounting plates on the eccentric being careful not to damage the bearing races. 12 6.5. Wipe any excess grease from the bearings. Step 7. Secure with wire ties Use wire ties to secure the assembly for transport to the Hassia. Rebuild Complete The bench rebuild of the scissors arm assembly is complete. Uncontrolled Copy When printed Page 12 of 13 Scissors Lift Rebuild

13 Performance Standards All tasks must be performed at a minimum level of proficiency in order to satisfy business needs. While not everyone can be expected to perform at the same level, minimum levels of performance must be established. The minimum proficiency standards applicable to the task described in the Standard Training Model are described below. Safety Requirements The proficiency requires the ability to avoid injury beyond minor strains and/or minor injuries to hands associated with the safe use of hand tools. Food Safety Requirements TBD Environmental Requirements Consider your environmental impact while performing your job. Recycle all waste and packaging materials. Turn off compressed air, water, steam, lighting and equipment when not in use. Check and report all compressed air, water and steam leaks. NDIRECT: Incorrect performance of this task may affect the performance of the Hassia web sterilization station and cause waste of web material.
