3 BQ-P6 Important Information - This manual is designed to help you to install, operate and maintain Book Binder BQ-P6. 8 1. Before Starting Operation 1-1 Installation Precautions 1. Place BQ-P6 in a flat space. - Avoid places where table and foundtion are unstable. 2. Keep BQ-P6 away from direct sun light. - Keep BQ-P6 away from high temperature and humidity. 3. Keep BQ-P6 away from lots of dust. Bad 4. Keep BQ-P6 away from magnetic or magnetized apparatus. 5. Do not put many loads on one electrical outlet. Bad (2)
9 1-2 Operating Precautions 1. Before Starting Operation 1. Do not touch melted glue or melt tank with your finger or hand. Bad - Melted glue and melt tank are so hot that they causes severe skin burn. 2. Do not supply too much glue in melt tank. 3. Turn off power switch for preserving glue quality, when BQ-P6 is not used. - Deterioration pace of glue is proportional to time length during glue is melted. Bad 4. Absolutely do not open any covers and disassemble or modify the BQ-P6. Bad 5. Do not let fall down something small into the machine. 6. Do not use organic solvent thinner or benzine. Bad benzin thinner (3)
10 1. Before Starting Operation 1-3 Back Finish Quality Most important thing for good and strong binding is spine-alignment of stock. To apply glue on spine equally, all sheet must touch the level plate. Make sure stock to be bound gets trued up and aligned enough. Bad Good Thickness ( Weight ) of paper which can be used for cover is from 100 to 160 gsm. Bad Good With thin cover Keep the clamper and the nipper clean. Otherwise the binding quality may be affected by dusts or pieces of glue on the level plate and the nipper. Nipper Do not open bound book within five minutes Cool enough!! 20 (4)

Machine Parts Description 2-1 Main Body Name 1 Clamper 2 Clamper Knob 3 Cover Gauge 4 Safety Guard 5 Nipper 6 Melt Tank Cover 7 Main Switch Function This clamps sheets to be bound and carries to the melt tank. Used to open and close the clamper. Used to regulate cover position. When this safety guard is raised, the clamper movement stops immediately. This nips cover and sheets to form spine. This covers melt tank unit which is extremely hot. Keep hands off from melt tank and glue application rollers when the cover is opened. Used to turn ON / OFF main power. (6)

Major Parts Description and Functions Name 1 Binding Mode Select Button 2 Cover/Tape Mode Lamp 3 Padding Mode Lamp 4 Operation Lamp 5 Preparation Lamp 6 Procedure Lamp for stock placing 7 Procedure Lamp for cover placing 8 Procedure Lamp for book taking out 9 Reset Button 10 Stop Button 11 Start Button Function Two types of binding can be selected. One is binding with cover or tape ( cover/tape mode ), another is pad binding. This lamp turns on when cover/tape binding mode is selected. This lamp turns on when pad binding mode is selected. This lamp turns on when the clamper moves forward/ backward, or the nipper moves up/down. This lamp turns on when glue is not melted for binding. Alarm will let you know when glue is ready. This lamp turns on when stock can be placed in the clamper. This lamp turns on when cover can be placed. This lamp turns on when book can be taken out from the clamper. (1)Used to bring back the nipper to home position after binding. (2)Used to bring back clamper when stop button is depressed during binding process. (Firstly take out sheets from clamper, secondly depress reset button twice to bring back clamper. ) Used to stop binding procedure. Used to start binding. (7)

16 3. How to use BQ-P6 3-1 Operation Procedure (Cover-Binding) NOTE : Operation procedure is guided on operation panel. Lamps will tell you binding procedure step by step. 1. Plug the power cord to outlet. ON! 2. Turn on main power. - Turn on the main switch. NOTE : Warming up time for glue is 13 minutes. Alarm will tell you when glue will be ready. 3. Select cover/tape binding mode. - Depress the binding mode select button to select cover/tape binding mode. NOTE : Depress the reset button when cover/ tape binding mode can not be selected. 4. Place stock. - True up sheets at spine. - Set left hand side edge of stock against left side of the clamper. NOTE : - Maximum binding thickness is 25 mm. - When binding bigger than A4 size ( landscape ) to prevent bending over clamper, support boards for clamper should be attached. Place the support boards outside of the clamp guides ( both front and rear side ). The magnet attached on support boards will stick on clamp guides. The clamper moves backward and the glue will be applied on sheets spine. 7. Pull out fully the cover gauge. Cover-Set-Guide Arrow Mark Cover Gauge (11)

Place cover. - Place cover on the nipper. - Align the center of cover to arrow mark. - Depress the cover set guide at indicated point and raise two fixing nails. - Insert the cover and fix. Cover-Set-guide Arrow Mark Nail Nipper 9. Align the cover gauge to cover. - Set the cover gauge so that it slightly touches the edge of cover. Nail Arrow Mark Cover Gauge Center of Cover Cover 10. Restart the clamper. - Depress the start button again. - The clamper moves forward to its home position. - Sheets applied glue at spine are nipped with cover for several seconds. 11. Take out book. - Turn the clamper knob counterclockwise to open the clamper when alarm rings. - Slide out book to right hand side. (12)

Lamps will tell you binding procedure step by step. - Only Horizon original tape can be used on your BQ-P6. ON! 1. Plug the power cord to outlet. 2. Turn on main power. - Turn on the main switch. NOTE : Warming up time for glue is 13 minutes. Alarm will tell you when glue will be ready. 3. Select cover/tape binding mode. - Depress the binding mode select button to select cover/tape binding mode. NOTE : Depress the reset button when cover/ tape binding mode can not be selected. 4. Place stock. - True up sheet at spine. - Set left hand side edge of stock against left hand side of the clamper. NOTE : - Maximum binding thickness is 25 mm. - When binding bigger than A4 size ( landscape ) to prevent bending over clamper, support boards for clamper should be attached. NOTE : Use only Horizon original tape. Released Paper ( Center Part of Tape ) - Peel off only center part of released paper on tape. - Place the tape on middle of the nippers so that the left edge of tape align with the resister guide. Restart the clamper. - Depress the start button again. - The clamper moves forward to its home position. - Sheets applied glue at spine are nipped with tape for several seconds. 8. Take out book. - Turn the clamper knob counterclockwise to open the clamper when alarm rings. - As the part of tape stuck bottom edge of clamper guides, push down book slightly to release book from the clamper guides and slide out book to right hand side. 9. Stick tape. - Peel off released paper on both side of tape. - Stick tape to book. Released Paper Tape 10. Reset the level plate. - Depress the reset button to reset level plate for next binding. 24 3. How to use BQ-P6 3-3 Operation Procedure (Pad Binding ) NOTE : Operation procedure is guided on operation panel. Lamps will tell you binding procedure step by step. 1. Plug the power cord to outlet. ON! 2. Turn on main power. - Turn on the main switch. NOTE : Warming up time for glue is 13 minutes. Alarm will tell you when glue will be ready. 3. Select pad binding mode. - Depress the binding mode select button to select pad binding mode. NOTE : Depress the reset button when pad binding mode can not be selected. 4. Place stock. - True up sheets at spine. - Set left hand side edge of sheets against left side of the clamper. NOTE : - Maximum binding thickness is 25 mm. - When binding bigger than A4 size ( landscape ) to prevent bending over clamper, support boards for clamper should be attached. Place the support boards outside of the clamp guides ( both front and rear side ). The magnet attached on support boards will stick on clamper guides. The clamper moves backward and the glue will be applied on sheets spine. - The clamper moves forward immediately. - Glue is dried over the nipper for several seconds. NOTE : Actually the clamper does not stop at its stroke end. Do not touch any moving part. 6. Take out stock. - Turn the clamper knob counterclockwise to open the clamper when alarm rings. - Slide out stock to right hand side. BQ-P6 7. Reset the level plate. - Depress the reset button to reset level plate for next binding. The level plate will be raised. (19)

28 BQ-P6 4. Trouble Shooting When BQ-P6 does not start or operate properly, refer to this trouble shooting to prevent easy mistake. Considerable cause and countermeasure are pointed out below. 4-1 When BQ-P6 does not start. Cause 1 : The reset button is not depressed. Countermeasure : Depress the reset button when no book is placed in the clamper. Cause 2: A stock is not placed.?? Countermeasure : Place a stock in the clamper. (22)
29 BQ-P6 4. Trouble shooting 4-2 When the level plate does not reset. Cause : A book is not taken out from the clamper. Countermeasure : Slide out book to right hand side and depress the reset button. 4-3 When the clamper moves forward before cover setting Cause : Pad binding mode is selected. Countermeasure : Select the cover/tape mode. (23)
30 4. Trouble Shooting 4-4 Lamp Does Not Light when Power is Turned On / Lamp Lights Off Suddenly Cause 1 : Circuit protector trips. (When the switch pops out, the circuit protector is tripped.) Countermeasure : Turn off the power switch and push in the switch. The circuit protector will be reset. If the switch pops out again when the power is turned on, turn off the power switch and please call your local dealer. BQ-P6 Switch (24)

32 5. Maintenance 5-1 Glue Supply After each 30 books of 10mm thick WARNING Do not touch the melt tank or the application roller. High temperature will cause severe personal injury. of 10mm When : (1) After about 30 bindings from Max. glue level ( supposed the sheet size is A4, thickness is 10 mm. ). (2) Top of fin in the melt tank will be appeared. What : Horizon original Glue HM-301L NOTE : Do not use another glue. Melt Tank Cover Fin How : Place approximately 30 pieces of glue into the melt tank. Glue (HM-30IL) - Turn off main power and wait 15 minutes. Fin - Open the melt tank cover. - Place the glue into the melt tank piece by piece. - Close the melt tank cover. Caution Do not apply glue more than Max. limit of glue level indication. Min. Max.
