5 Most heat pump manufacturers state in their installation guides that the installer should allow adequate provision for fluid expansion on the brine side of the system, i.e. the ground loop circuits. These circuits invariably run at temperatures below zero degrees using a Glycol mix (brine) fluid. Most quote the brine operating parameters of between minus 5 C and plus 25 C, with the safety valve set at a pressure of 3 bar. These brine side expansion s are sized to match the system size - in other words, the volume of fluid. That figure will normally be provided by the engineer responsible for system design.
