2 QUICK-START GUIDE Don t be frightened to fix it... There s a culture that goes with driving a Helion RC truck that, as a new owner, means you ve bought into a virtual club, a club whose members are not just drivers but mechanics too. These are people who take their cars out in all conditions, tackle all obstacles and aren t afraid to pickup a wrench and make repairs when something needs fixing. Some facts When the family SUV gets a bent fender, you don t take the car back for a new one, you fix the fender. When you buy a Helion RC car from a hobby store and break a part, you fix it and you drive it again. At Helion we strive to provide a ready supply of spare parts, backed by easy to follow, stepby-step service and maintenance videos. It s a recipe for repairing your truck quickly and it s the way true RC car enthusiasts operate. Driving your Helion truck is only half the fun. Until you ve picked up a wrench, tuned your suspension or changed a spur gear, you haven t lived. Don t just drive it - get down n dirty.

1 Remove the components from the box and ensure the contents are correct: 1 x Rock Rider Brushless

4GHz 3-channel transmitter 1 x 7-cell wall charger 1 x Quick-Start Guide 2 Remove the four body

3 Locate the battery cradle in the center of the car, release the hook and loop tape and withdraw

4 Plug the charger into a wall socket, connect the battery to the charger and place the battery on

3 1 Remove the components from the box and ensure the contents are correct: 1 x Rock Rider Brushless vehicle 1 x 1800mAh 7-cell NiMH battery pack 1 x IKONNIK ET3 2.4GHz 3-channel transmitter 1 x 7-cell wall charger 1 x Quick-Start Guide 2 Remove the four body clips from the car and lift the body clear. 3 Locate the battery cradle in the center of the car, release the hook and loop tape and withdraw the battery pack. 4 Plug the charger into a wall socket, connect the battery to the charger and place the battery on a non-flammable surface. Switch the wall socket ON noting that a fully discharged battery will be charged in approximately 3 hours. Periodically monitor the temperature of the battery when charging and disconnect if it exceeds 120 F (49 C). Unplug the battery when charged.

4 QUICK-START GUIDE 5 Re-insert the fully charged battery pack into the cradle and tightly secure it with the hook and loop straps. 6 Ensure the radio switch is in the OFF position, then connect the battery to the ESC. 7 Remove the battery cover from the underside of the ET3 transmitter. Insert four AA alkaline cells - ensuring correct polarity - then replace the battery cover. 8 Switch ON your IKONNIK ET3 transmitter and ensure the LED is lit solid red and that no alarms are audible. Ensure that the CH2 EPA dials are turned fully clockwise and that the D/R (steering rate) dial is centered. Ensure, also, that the CH1 and CH2 (trim) dials are centered at zero. LED CH2 EPA D/R CH1 & CH 2 Trim 9 Locate the switch and turn ON your Rock Rider Brushless. In the unlikely event that the car does not operate, see the PAIRING / BINDING instructions at the back of this guide.

10 Replace the body and secure it with the four body clips. 11 12 Check the operation of the throttle and steering.

If your run time is significantly shorter than this (and no physical damage has been incurred say in a crash or impact that may be causing components to bind) then

5 10 Replace the body and secure it with the four body clips Check the operation of the throttle and steering. Pulling the throttle trigger back will drive the car forward, pushing the trigger forward once will apply the brakes while pushing the trigger forward twice will drive the car in reverse. Turning the wheel to the right will cause the car to turn right and vice versa. Use the throttle and steering trim dials to fine-tune the controls of your car. In doing so, ensure that your Rock Rider Brushless tracks in a straight line. Also that it doesn t creep forwards or backwards at zero throttle. 13 IMPORTANT: When running your Rock Rider Brushless vehicle with the supplied NiMH battery, the run time should be in excess of 5 minutes. If your run time is significantly shorter than this (and no physical damage has been incurred say in a crash or impact that may be causing components to bind) then it is worth checking that the ESC has the correct NiMH battery LVC setting. Refer to the full Rock Rider Brushless manual (that is available online) to confirm that the LVC (Low Voltage Cutoff) point has been correctly set for NiMH and not for LiPo or other lithium chemistry battery. The proceedure for checking or setting the LVC for NiMH batteries is coverered in great detail in the full manual.

BINDING/PAIRING GUIDE Pairing The Transmitter Having followed steps 1 to 9, in the unlikely event that

1 Remove the body, install a fully charged battery into the car, then connect it to the ESC.

2 Locate the receiver box and, using a 2mm hex driver, remove the protective cover.

6 BINDING/PAIRING GUIDE Pairing The Transmitter Having followed steps 1 to 9, in the unlikely event that your car does not operate please follow the 6 stage pairing process detailed here. 1 Remove the body, install a fully charged battery into the car, then connect it to the ESC. Ensure that the car is powered OFF. 2 Locate the receiver box and, using a 2mm hex driver, remove the protective cover. 3 Place your Rock Rider and ET3 transmitter in close proximity but not less than 12 (300mm) apart. 300mm 4 Press and hold the PAIR / BIND button on the receiver then switch the receiver on. The receiver s LED will flash to indicate that it is in PAIR / BIND mode. 5 Press and hold the PAIR / BIND button on the transmitter then switch the transmitter on. Release the PAIR / BIND button only when the transmitter s LED begins flashing.

7 6 When the LED on the receiver lights solid red your ET3 transmitter and Conquest will be bound. You will now have full control of throttle and steering. Return to Step 11 of this guide to complete the set-up of your car.
