LADDERBRACE IMPORTANT - SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Carefully read all these instructions before assembling and using your Ladderbrace The Ladderbrace is designed to fit virtually any modern ladder, however, for your own safety ladders should conform to BS/EN 131 & BS.2037 class 1 and class 3. These cover duty load ratings of 115kg to 130kg. Ladders which have a lower duty load rating (see assembly type B ladders), should only be used with extreme caution and should be double footed i.e. a second person should stand with both feet on the bottom rung and one hand on each stile. The Ladderbrace should be used only on ladders with a maximum length of 8.0 mtr. (28ft) fully extended. All ladders should be used with an angle of 75º measured from the base or floor line. This is calculated by using the ratio of 4:1, 4 being the vertical height of the ladder against the wall, 1 is the distance from the wall. E.g. If your ladder is 6ft from the wall then the vertical height up the wall should be 4 x 6ft = 24ft. When using the Ladderbrace with your ladder freestanding (i.e. not against a wall or structure) do not climb above the upper mounting point of the Ladderbrace telescopic struts (point 'Y' see assembly instructions approximately 9 rungs high). Point Y Do not climb above this point when using the ladder free-standing When using Ladderbrace with your ladder freestanding do not extend the ladder higher than needed for a comfortable handhold. When using the Ladderbrace ensure that the connecting chain is kept tight at all times. Chain must be used at maximum length for best stability. The Ladderbrace should be kept in a clean and dry condition. A light coating of preparatory oil (WD40) on the telescopic struts will enable the sprung-loaded locking buttons to operate smoothly. After assembly, saw off excess material from both threaded mounting bars (5) and safety bolts (12 4
LADDER TYPES A & B Identify which ladder type you have prior to fitting the Ladderbrace. LADDER TYPE A These are the more modern and common ladders of Aluminium with hollow rungs and styles and with the hollow rungs and styles with the hollow rung visible through the stile. LADDER TYPE B These are Aluminium ladders with I girder style stiles with visible holes through the rungs. You are now ready to mark the mounting points X and Y for each of the mounting bars If your ladder has more than 1 section, separate them for ease of handling. Lay the base section to be worked on face down on a firm level surface. Measure the distance from the centre of the bottom rung X to a point Y 2240mm distant and mark the side of the style. If point Y is within 50mm (2") of a rung, then attach the other mounting bar (5) through the rung hole as per fig 1, 2 and 3 under ladder type A. 5
LADDER TYPE A ASSEMBLY- Assembly of lower telescopic struts (6A) to bottom of ladder Point X Point X Fig. 1 Pass the mounting bar (5) through the lowest hollow rung - Point X. Fig. 2 Place a rung cone (4) on each end of the mounting bar. Telescopic strut (6A) Point X bracket 'A' Fig. 3 Place the connecting bracket (A) which forms part of the telescopic strut (6A) on the mounting bar followed by a spacer (3) then place a washer (2) against the spacer followed by two nuts (1) and tighten firmly. 6
LADDER TYPE A - Assembly of upper telescopic struts (6B) to top of ladder Point Y Fig. 1 Pass the mounting bar (5) through the rung at Point Y Place a rung cone (4) on each end of the mounting bar Place the connecting bracket (A) which forms part of the telescopic strut (6B) on the mounting bar followed by a spacer (3) then place a washer (2) against the spacer followed by two nuts (1) and tighten firmly. 7

Rung cone (4) Fig. 2 Pass the mounting bar through the hole and place rung cone (4) on each end of the mounting bar, followed by spacers prior to attaching bracket Telescopic strut (6A) Point X bracket 'A' Fig. 3 Place the connecting bracket (A) which forms part of the telescopic strut (6A) on the mounting bar followed by a spacer (3) then place a washer (2) against the spacer followed by two nuts (1) and tighten firmly. 8
LADDER TYPE B - Assembly of upper telescopic struts (6B) to top of ladder Point Y Fig. 1 Pass the mounting bar (5) through the hollow rung and place a rung cone (4) onto each end of the mounting bar. Place the connecting bracket (A) which forms part of the telescopic strut (6B) on the mounting bar followed by a spacer (3) on each end then place a washer (2) against the spacer followed by two nuts (1) and tighten firmly. 9
ALL LADDERS ASSEMBLY OF SECURING CLIPS (Parts No. 7 & 8) Attach the clips to the outsides of the rungs, approx. halfway between point X and point Y using the self-tapping screws provided. These clips hold the telescopic struts when moving or storing the ladder. ASSEMBLY OF CROSS BRACE (Part No. 10) Place the cross brace as shown on diagram on page one. The horizontal struts must be set at an angle of 30º to each side of the ladder, then clip the cross brace over the struts to lock them in the correct position. NOTE: Do not use Ladder brace without above safety precautions in place. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE Place the ladder in the required position and extend it to the height needed. Take one of the Aluminium telescopic struts out of its plastic clip and place the hinge on the ground, placing the vertical section (6B) as close to the wall as possible. Ensure that the chain is parallel to the ladder rungs. Repeat the process with the strut on the other side. The hinges on the Aluminium telescopic struts should be approximately six feet apart. Before use ensure that the securing pins are fully emerged from the holes in the outer tube and are fully locked in place. The Ladderbrace should be used only on firm, level ground. Where the ground is soft or uneven, wooden or metal boards should be put down under the ladder, and the two extending telescopic struts to prevent the ladder settling into the soft earth and/or to even out the ground where the surface is not level. MOVING YOUR LADDERBRACE When you have finished with the ladder, unlock the telescopic struts by pressing on locking pins and twisting the outer tubes. Then slide the outer tube up the inner tube and put them into the clips on the side of the ladder. Made in Taiwan for TENSOR MARKETING LIMITED Yarm Road Business Park, Darlington.
