3 Certification and Code Requirements Ventilation Requirements WARNING: The completed installation must: Make sure re sufficient intake of fresh air f combustion. Make sure living space completely olated from combustion system of. Th certified by CSA International as meeting latest edition of ANSI Z21.19 / CAN 1.4 standards f installation in mobile homes recreational vehicles. The must be installed in accdance with th Installation Manual in der f Ncold limited warranty to be in effect. In addition, installation must confm to following, as applicable: In United States and Canada: Local codes, in absence of local codes, National Fuel Gas Code, ANSI Z223.1/NFPA 54, Natural Gas and Propane installation Code, CSA B149.1, ANSI A119.2 Recreational Vehicles Code, and CSA Z240 RV Series, Recreational Vehicles. A manufactured home (mobile home) installation must confm with Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standard, Title 24 CFR, Part 3280 [fmerly Federal Standard f Mobile Home Construction and Safety, Title 24 (part 280), and current CSA Z240.4, Gasequipped Recreational Vehicles and Mobile Housing. If an external power source utilized, appliance, when installed, must be electrically grounded in accdance with local codes, in absence of local codes, National Electrical code, and ANSI/NFPA 70, Canadian Electrical Code, CSA C22.2. Parts 1 and 2. All propane gas supply piping and fittings must obey local, state, and national codes about type and size. These components must also obey current NFPA 501C section 2 4, and in Canada with current CAN Standard. Make sure re complete and unrestricted ventilation of flue exhaust which, in gas mode, can produce carbon monoxide. The breathing of carbon monoxide fumes can cause dizziness, nausea, in extreme cases, death. Make sure completely olated from its heat generating components through crect use of baffles and panel construction. Certified installation needs one lower intake vent and one upper exhaust vent. Install vents exactly as written in th manual. Any installation method voids both certification and facty warranty of. The bottom of opening f lower intake vent, which also service access do, must be even with immediately below flo level. Th allows any leaking propane gas to escape to outside and not to collect at flo level. CSA International certification allows to have zero (0) inch minimum clearance at sides, rear, top, and bottom. While re are no maximum clearances specified f certification, following maximum clearances are necessary f crect perfmance: Bottom 0 inch min. 0 inch max. Each Side 0 inch min 1/2 inch max. Top 0 inch min. 1/4 inch max. Rear 0 inch min. 1 inch max. These clearances plus lower and upper vents cause natural air draft that necessary f good refrigeration. Cooler air comes in through lower vent, goes up around coils where it removes excess heat from components, and goes out through upper vent. If th air flow blocked decreased, will not cool crectly. Each NORCOLD model certified by CSA International f crect ventilation. Install only certified vents that are lted in th manual. Installation Manual 3

10 WARNING: The rear of cooling system has hot surfaces and sharp surfaces that can damage electrical wiring. Make sure that re a good clearance between all electrical wiring and cooling system of. Position any electrical wiring within enclosure opposite burner side of. Do not put any electrical wiring through roof exhaust vent. Failure to crectly position electrical wiring can result in electrical shock fire. Connect 120 volts AC supply: WARNING: Connect AC power cd(s) only to a grounded threeprong receptacle. Do not remove round ground prong from any of AC power cds. Do not use a two prong adapter an extension cd with any of AC power cds. Operation of without crect ground can cause dangerous electrical shock death if you are touching metal parts of. Put AC power cd(s) into a grounded threeprong receptacle: Make sure receptacle positioned within easy reach of lower intake vent. Make sure power cd(s) does not touch burner cover, flue pipe, any hot component that could damage insulation of power cd. Connect 12 volts DC supply: As dtance from vehicle battery to increases, crect AWG wire size and fuse size also increases. If wire size too small f dtance, a voltage drop occurs. The voltage drop decreases output of system heater and causes po cooling perfmance. 1. Determine min. wire size and max. fuse size to use: WARNING: If you use an increct wire size and/ fuse size, electrical fire can result. On 2way models, use a minimum of 18 AWG wire and a maximum 6 Amp fuse. On 3way models, measure dtance from vehicle battery to. If dtance 0 20 feet, use a minimum of 10 AWG wire and a maximum 30 Amp fuse. If dtance over 20 feet, use a minimum of 8 AWG wire and a maximum 40 Amp fuse. If wire size larger than min. size, use crect fuse per RVIA A119.2 standard local codes. 2. Install a fuse in DC power supply wires between battery and : Put fuse as close to battery as possible. 3. Connect DC power supply wires (See Art00966): Attach a 1/4 inch Quick Connect terminal to each DC power supply wire. NOTE: Do not use chass of vehicle frame as one of conducts. Attach DC power supply wires only to battery and power board [1] of. Push positive DC power wire onto power board terminal that marked 12VDC. Push DC ground wire onto power board terminal that marked GND. Make sure each DC power supply wire on crect polarity terminal. Connect Propane Gas Components Th operates on propane gas at a pressure of 11 inches Water Column Propane. The controls operate on 12 volts DC (10.5 volts min volts max.). Operation out of se limits can damage electrical circuit parts and will void warranty. Connect propane gas supply system: WARNING: Be very careful when wking on near propane gas system. Do not smoke, use an open flame near propane gas system. Do not use an open flame to examine f leaks. Do not connect to propane gas tank without a pressure regulat between m. To avoid a propane gas leak, always use two wrenches to tighten loosen propane gas supply line connections. Leaking propane gas leak can ignite explode and result in dangerous personal injury death. Connect gas supply line to : Make sure that all tubing and fittings obey all local, state, and national codes about size and type. Installation Manual 10

11 Make sure that all flexible metal connects obey current CAN16.10 Standard. Make sure that materials used f gas supply line obey both current ANSI A (NFPA 1192) and CSA Z240 Standards on Recreational Vehicles. Ncold recommends use of 3/8 inch copper tubing as gas supply line and requires a 3/8 inch SAE (UNF 5/818) male flare fitting as connection to. Put propane gas supply line up through flo of enclosure. Make sure hole through flo large enough allow clearance f gas supply line. Put a wear restant seal (grommet, sealant, etc.) around gas supply line where it goes through flo to prevent vibration and abrasion. To prevent vibration and abrasion, make sure that gas supply line not against anything in enclosure. Attach gas supply line to bulkhead fitting of. Examine gas supply system f leaks: WARNING: Do not allow leak detecting solution to touch electrical components. Many liquids are electrically conductive and can cause electrical shts and in some cases, fire. Use a leak detecting solution to examine gas supply line and all propane gas connections f leaks. If you use compressed air f test: The pressure of compressed air at manual shut off valve of must not be me than 1/2 psig (14 inches Water Column). If pressure of compressed air me than 1/2 psig (14 inches Water Column), remove gas supply line from bulkhead fitting of befe test. If pressure of compressed air equal to less than 1/2 psig (14 inches Water Column), close manual shut off valve of befe test. Ignition and Start Up Befe ignition start up of : Make sure air flow in lower intake vent, through coils and condenser, and out upper exhaust vent not blocked decreased.
