Installation Instructions Start-Up Before operating the reducer or gearmotor, the following must be done: Install the drive on a rigid and vibration-free surface. This gearbox is not shaft mounted, install the drive onto a rigidly supported drive shaft. Remove the protective coating on the shaft and fl ange. Use solvent if necessary. It is suggested that couplings, sheaves, sprockets, or pinions be heated prior to mounting on gear shafts. Do not hammer the shaft! Mount couplings, sheaves, sprockets, or pinions as close to the shaft shoulder as possible. Check shaft alignment when using direct coupling. Check shaft parallelism when using belt or chain drive. CAUTION : Refer to belt manufacturer s recommendation for belt tension. (Tension should not be applied on chain drives.) Check oil level of each oil sump per diagram on page 2 or 3 to verify correct oil is present. Unit may require drainage of lubricant if long term storage was requested when the unit was built. Install Breather plugs in the locations noted on page 2 or 3 based on gear construction of unit. Maintenance To provide safe operation and to avoid problems, it is recommended the reducer or gearmotor be inspected every 50 hours of operating time. Check mounting bolts and auxiliary drive tension (if applicable). The preventative maintenance list below should be performed every 5000 hours of operating time: Check oil level and add oil if necessary. Make sure the vent hole in the breather is clean. 2 Lubrication Inline Option This reducer consists of three separate oil Sumps. Each reservoir is shipped factory filled with a synthetic gear oil (Mobil SHC series or equivalent). Under normal conditions this lubricant does not require changing, but it is recommended that the oil level be checked periodically. If contamination (such as water) is detected, an oil change is recommended. Refer to the table below for the proper viscosity grade and approximate oil volume for each sump.
