The power supply to the controller must be carried out via an external power switch (last step!). The supply voltage must be V~ (50 60 Hz). Flexible cables must be attached to the housing with the closed strain relief and the corresponding screws. The controller is equipped with two semiconductor relays, to which loads such as pumps, valves etc. can be connected: Relay 1 Relay 2 18 = conductor R1 16 = conductor R2 17 = neutral conductor N 15 = neutral conductor N 13 = protective conductor 14 = protective conductor The mains supply is to be carried out at the terminals: 19 = neutral conductor N 20 = conductor L 12 = protective conductor The temperature ssors (S1 up to S4) are to be connected to the following terminals with either polarity: 1 / 2 = Ssor 1 (e.g. Ssor collector 1) 3 / 4 = Ssor 2 (e.g. Ssor store 1) 5 / 6 = Ssor 3 (e.g. Ssor store top) 7 / 8 = Ssor 4 (e.g. Ssor return) All Pt1000 temperature ssors are equipped with a platinum measuring elemt in their tip. The electrical resistance of the measuring elemt changes in relation to the temperature (see table in chap. 5). The differce betwe FKP and FRP type ssors only lies in the cable insulation material. The insulation material of FKP type ssor cables resists a higher temperature, so that FKP type ssors should be used as collector ssors. FRP type ssors are best used as referce ssors in stores or pipes. DeltaSol CS/4 PWM VFD Made in Germany R1 1 (1) R2 1 (1) Temp. Ssor Pt1000 S1 S2 S3 S4 VBus Ssor terminals S1 S4 6

Differt solutions for visualisation and remote parameterisation are availabe on the RESOL website 7

8 1.6 Terminal allocation in the differt system layouts System layout 1 The controller calculates the temperature differce betwe collector ssor S1 and store ssor S2. If the differce is larger than or idtical to the adjusted switch-on temperature differce (DT O), the solar pump will be operated by relay 1, and the store will be loaded until the switch-off temperature differce (DT F) or the maximum store temperature (S MX) is reached. Ssors S3 and S4 can optionally be connected for measuremt purposes. S3 can optionally be used as referce ssor for the store emergcy shutdown option (OSEM). If heat quantity measuremt (OHQM) is activated, S4 and VFD are to be connected as flow and return ssors respectively. If the drainback option (ODB) is activated, relay 2 can be used to operate a booster pump by activating the booster function (OBST). AH O < AH F thermostat function for afterheating AH O > AH F thermostat function for using surplus ergy The symbol ⓶ will be shown on the display if the second relay output is activated. Referce ssor for the thermostat function is S3! t1 O, t2 O, t3 O: Thermostat switch-on time Adjustmt range: 00:00 23:45 Factory setting: 00:00 t1 F, t2 F, t3 F: Thermostat switch-off time Adjustmt range: 00:00 23:45 Factory setting: 00:00 In order to block the thermostat function for a certain period, there are three time frames t1 t3. If the function should be active betwe 6:00 and 9:00, set t1 O to 6:00 and t1 F to 9:00. If all time frames are set to 00:00 o clock, the thermostat function is continuously activated (factory setting).

15 Thermal disinfection OtD: Thermal disinfection function Adjustmt range: ON / OFF Factory setting: OFF PDIS: Monitoring period Adjustmt range: 0 30:0 24 h (dd:hh) Factory setting: 01:00 Referce ssor for the thermal disinfection function is S3! For thermal disinfection, the temperature at the referce ssor has to be monitored. This protection is sured wh, during the monitoring period, the disinfection temperature is continuously exceeded for the tire disinfection period. If the thermal disinfection function is activated, the monitoring period starts as soon as the temperature at the referce ssor falls below the disinfection temperature. Wh the monitoring period ds, the allocated referce relay activates the afterheating. The disinfection period starts to count as soon as the temperature at the referce ssor exceeds the disinfection temperature. If the temperature at the referce ssor exceeds the disinfection temperature by more than 5 K, the referce relay switches off until the temperature has fall below a value of 2 K, above the disinfection temperature. Thermal disinfection can only be completed wh the disinfection temperature is exceeded for the duration of the disinfection period without interruption. If the disinfection conditions have be fulfilled by solar loading before the monitoring period ds, thermal disinfection is considered complete and a new monitoring period begins. Due to the flexible control logic, the exact time of thermal disinfection is t predictable. In order to set a fixed time for the disinfection to be run, the starting delay must be used: Thermal disinfection with starting delay DDIS Heating period Adjustmt range: 00:00 23:59 (hh:mm) Factory setting: 01:00 TDIS Disinfection temperature Adjustmt range: 0 95 C [0 200 F] Factory setting: 60 C [140 F] This function helps to contain the spread of Legionella in DHW stores by systematically activating the afterheating. SDIS Starting time Adjustmt range: 00:00 24:00 (o clock) Factory setting: 00:00 If the starting delay option is activated, a starting time for the thermal disinfection with starting delay can be adjusted. The activation of the afterheating is th delayed until that starting time after the monitoring period has ded. If the monitoring period ds, for example, at 12:00 o clock, and the starting time has be set to 18:00, the referce relay will be ergised with a delay of 6 hours at 18:00 instead of 12:00 o clock. If, during the waiting time, the disinfection conditions are fulfilled by solar loading, thermal disinfection is considered complete and a new monitoring period begins. 15

16 System layout 3 The controller calculates the temperature differce betwe collector ssor S1 and store ssor S2. If the differce is larger than or idtical to the adjusted switch-on temperature differce (DT O), the solar pump will be operated by relay 1, and the store will be loaded until the switch-off temperature differce (DT F) or the maximum store temperature (S MX) is reached. If the maximum collector temperature (CMX) is reached, the solar pump will be operated by relay 1 and the 3-port valve will be operated by relay 2 in order to direct the surplus ergy to a heat dump. For security purpose this will be carried out only if the store temperature is below the n-adjustable emergcy shutdown of 95 C [200 F]. PWM VFD VBus 9 10 S1 R2 R1 S4 / VFD / TFL S3 /TSTT S4 / VFD / TR S2 16

27 4.2 Adjustmt channels System layout selection Arr System layout selection. Adjustmt range: 1 3 Factory setting: 1 In this channel, a pre-defined system layout can be selected. Each system layout has a set of pre-programmed settings that can be individually changed. If the system layout selection is changed later on, all adjustmts made in the other channels will be lost. Therefore, changing the system layout is always followed by a security quiry. Only confirm the security quiry if you are sure that you wish to change the system layout selection! Security quiry: To confirm the security quiry, press button 3 T control The controller works as a standard differtial controller. If the switch-on differce is reached, the pump is activated. Wh the temperature differce falls below the adjusted switch-off temperature differce, the respective relay switches off. The switch-on temperature differce must be at least 0.5 K [1 Ra] higher than the switch-off temperature differce. DT F Switch-off temperature diff. Adjustmt range: K [ Ra] Factory setting: 4.0 K [8.0 Ra] Wh the drainback option ODB is activated, the temperature differces DT O, DT F and DT S are set to a fixed adjustmt: DT O = 10 K [20 Ra] DT F = 4 K [8 Ra] DT S = 15 K [30 Ra] Previous adjustmts made in these channels will be overridd and may have to be tered again if ODB is deactivated later on. Pump speed control DT O Switch-on temperature diff. 28 RIS Rise Adjustmt range: 1 20 K [2 40 Ra] Factory setting: 2 K [4 Ra] For pump speed control, the operation mode of the corresponding relay must be set to Auto (adjustmt channel MAN1) Wh the switch-on temperature differce is reached, the pump is activated at full speed for 10 seconds. Th, the speed is reduced to the minimum pump speed value (factory setting = 30 %). If the temperature differce reaches the adjusted minal temperature differce, the pump speed increases by one step (10%). If the differce increases by the adjustable rise value, the pump speed increases by 10 % respectively until the maximum pump speed of 100 % is reached. The response of the controller can be adapted via the parameter Rise. The minal temperature differce must be at least 0.5 K [1 Ra] higher than the switch-on tempe rature differce. PUM Pump control type Selection: OnOF, PULS, PSOL, PHEA Factory setting: PSOL With this parameter, the pump control type can be adjusted. The following types can be selected: Adjustmt for standard pump without speed control OnOF (pump on / pump off) Adjustmt for standard pump with speed control PULS (pulse packet control via semiconductor relay) Adjustmt for high efficicy pump (HE pump) PSOL (PWM profile for a high-efficicy solar pump) PHEA (PWM profile for a high-efficicy heating pump) In order to reduce the number of switching processes for high-efficicy pumps, the controller is equipped with a relay overrun function that automatically comes into effect wh the speed control signal is t issued by the relay itself (PUM = PSOL or PHEA). The corresponding relay will th remain switched on for an hour after the switch-off conditions are fulfilled. WARNING! Minimum pump speed Electric shock! During the overrun time, the relay symbol disappears from the display and the pump is inactive, but the relay is still ergised! Switch off power supply and disconnect the device from power supply before working on the device or the cables connected! nmn Minimum pump speed Adjustmt range: (10) % Factory setting: 30 % A relative minimum pump speed can be allocated to the output R1 via the adjustmt channel nmn. Wh loads which are t speed-controlled (e.g. valves) are used, the value must be set to 100 % in order to deactivate pump speed control. 28

29 Store emergcy shutdown option nmx Maximum pump speed Adjustmt range: (10) % Factory setting: 100 % A relative maximum pump speed can be allocated to the output R1 via the adjustmt channel nmx. Wh loads which are t speed-controlled (e. g. valves) are used, the value of the relay must be set to 100 % or the pump control type must be set to OnOF in order to deactivate pump speed control. Maximum store temperature OSEM Store emergcy shutdown option Adjustmt range: OFF / ON Factory setting: OFF This option is used for activating the integrated store emergcy shutdown for an upper store ssor. If the temperature at the referce ssor exceeds 95 C [200 F], the store will be blocked and loading will be stopped until the temperature falls below 90 C [190 F]. Ssor S3 ist used as the referce ssor. Collector temperature limitation Emergcy shutdown of the collector S MX Maximum store temp. Adjustmt range: 4 95 C [ F] Arr 3: 4 90 C [ F] Factory setting: 60 C [140 F] Once the adjusted maximum temperature is exceeded, the solar pump is switched off and further loading of the store is prevted to reduce scald risk or system damage. A fixed hysteresis of 2 K [4 Ra] is set for the maximum store temperature. Wh the temperature at the corresponding ssor exceeds the adjusted maximum store temperature, the symbol is shown on the display. If the collector cooling or the system cooling function is activated, the adjusted store temperature may be overridd. In order to prevt system damage, the controller is also equipped with an integrated store emergcy shutdown if the store reaches 95 C [200 F]. EM Collector temperature limitation Adjustmt range: C [ F] Factory setting: 130 C [270 F] If the adjusted collector emergcy shutdown temperature (EM) is exceeded, the controller switches off the solar pump (R1) in order to protect the system against overheating (collector emergcy shutdown). A hysteresis of 10 K [20 Ra] is set for the collector temperature limitation. While the collector is in emergcy shutdown, (flashing) is shown on the display. If the drainback option ODB is activated, the adjustmt range of EM is changed to C [ F]. The factory setting in that case is 95 C [200 F]. 29

30 WARNING! Danger of injury and system damage through pressure surges! If water is used as a heat transfer medium in a pressure-less system, the water will start boiling at 100 C [212 F]. If a pressure-less drainback system is used with water as a heat transfer medium, do t adjust the collector temperature limitation EM to more than 95 C [200 F]! Cooling functions In the following the three cooling functions collector cooling, system cooling and store cooling are described in detail. The following te is valid for all three cooling functions: The cooling functions will t become active as long as solar loading is possible. Collector cooling function Wh the adjusted maximum store temperature is reached, solar loading stops. If the collector temperature increases to the adjusted maximum collector temperature, the solar pump is activated until the collector temperature falls at least 5 K [10 Ra] below the maximum collector temperature. The store temperature may increase (subordinate active maximum store temperature), but only up to 95 C [200 F] (emergcy shutdown of the store). If the collector cooling function is active, ⓵ and (flashing) is shown on the display. This function will only be available if the system cooling function (OSYC) is deactivated. In system layout 3, the parameter CMX is available without the OCC function. In system layout 3, CMX is used to set the activation temperature for the heat dump function. No other switch-on condition is needed in that case. System cooling function OCC Option collector cooling Adjustmt range: OFF / ON Factory setting: OFF OSYC Option system cooling Adjustmt range: OFF / ON Factory setting: OFF CMX Maximum collector temp. Adjustmt range: C [ F] Factory setting: 110 C [230 F] Wh the collector cooling function is activated, the controller aims to keep the collector at an operational temperature. DTCO Switch-on temperature diff. Adjustmt range: K [ Ra] Factory setting: 20.0 K [40.0 Ra] 30

31 Wh the system cooling function is activated, the controller aims to keep the solar system operational for a longer time. The function overrides the maximum store temperature to provide thermal relief of the collector field and the heat transfer fluid on hot days. If the store temperature is higher than the maximum store temperature (S MX) and the switch-on temperature differce DTCO is reached, the solar system remains activated. Solar loading is continued until either the store temperature reaches 95 C [200 F] (emergcy shutdown of the store), the temperature differce falls below the adjusted value DTCF or the collector emergcy shutdown temperature EM is reached. If the system cooling function is active, ⓵ and (flashing) is shown on the display. OHOL Holiday cooling option Adjustmt range: OFF / ON Factory setting: OFF DTCF Switch-off temperature diff. Adjustmt range: K [ Ra] Factory setting: 15.0 K [30.0 Ra] This function will only be available if the collector cooling function (OCC) is deactivated. Store cooling function OSTC Store cooling option Adjustmt range: OFF / ON Factory setting: OFF THOL Holiday cooling temperature Adjustmt range: C [ F] Factory setting: 40 C [110 F] Wh the store cooling function is activated, the controller aims to cool down the store during the night in order to prepare it for solar loading on the following day. If the adjusted maximum store temperature (S MX) is exceeded and the collector temperature falls below the store temperature, the system will be reactivated in order to cool down the store. Cooling will continue until the store temperature has fall below the adjusted maximum store temperature (S MX) again. A fixed hysteresis of 2 K [4 Ra] is set for this function. Referce threshold temperature differces for the store cooling function are DT O and DT F. If DHW consumption is expected for a longer period of time, the additional holiday cooling option OHOL can be activated in order to extd the store cooling function. The adjustable temperature THOL th replaces the maximum store temperature (S MX) as a switch-off temperature for the store cooling function. Wh the holiday cooling function is activated, and (flashing) are shown on the display. While the holiday cooling function is active, ⓵, and (flashing) are shown on the display. 31

32 Collector minimum limitation option OCN Collector minimum limitation Adjustmt range: OFF / ON Factory setting: OFF OCF Antifreeze function Adjustmt range: OFF / ON Factory setting: OFF CMN Collector minimum temp. Adjustmt range: C [ F] Factory setting: 10.0 C [50.0 F] If the collector minimum limitation option is activated, the pump (R1) is only switched on if the adjustable collector minimum temperature is exceeded. The minimum temperature prevts the pump from being switched on too oft at low collector temperatures. A fixed hysteresis of 5 K [10 Ra] is set for this function If the collector minimum limitation is active, (flashing) is shown on the display. If OSTC or OCF is active, the collector minimum function will be overridd. In that case, the collector temperature may fall below CMN. CFR Antifreeze temperature Adjustmt range: C [ F] Factory setting: 4.0 C [40.0 F] The antifreeze function activates the loading circuit betwe the collector and the store wh the temperature falls below the adjusted antifreeze temperature. This will protect the fluid against freezing or coagulating. If the adjusted antifreeze temperature is exceeded by 1 K [2 Ra], the loading circuit will be deactivated. Wh the antifreeze function is activated, is shown on the display. If the antifreeze function is active, ⓵ and (flashing) are shown on the display. Since this function uses the limited heat quantity of the store, the antifreeze function should be used in regions with few days of temperatures around the freezing point. The antifreeze function will be suppressed if the store temperature falls below 5 C [40 F] in order to protect the store from frost damage. 32

42 DL3 Datalogger Be it solar thermal, heating or DHW heat exchange controllers with the DL3 you can easily and convitly log system data of up to 6 RESOL controllers. Get a comprehsive overview of all controllers connected with the large full graphic display. Transfer data with an SD memory card or use the LAN interface to view and process data on your PC. RESOL DL3 Article.: VBus / LAN interface adapter The VBus / LAN interface adapter is designed for the direct connection of the controller to a PC network or router. It ables easy access to the controller via the local network of the owner. Thus, controller access and data charting can be effected from every workstation of the network. A full version of the RESOL ServiceCter software is included. RESOL VBus / LAN interface adapter Article.: DL2 Datalogger This additional module ables the acquisition and storage of large amounts of data (such as measuring and balance values of the solar system) over a long period of time. The DL2 can be configured and read-out with a standard internet browser via its integrated web interface. For transmission of the data stored in the internal memory of the DL2 to a PC, an SD card can be used. The DL2 is appropriate for all controllers with RESOL VBus. It can be connected directly to a PC or router for remote access and thus ables comfortable system monitoring for yield monitoring or for diagstics of faults. RESOL DL2 Article.: AM1 Alarm module The AM1 alarm module is designed to signal system failures. It is to be connected to the VBus of the controller and issues an optical signal via a red LED if a failure has occurred. The AM1 also has a pottial-free relay output, which can e. g. be connected to a building managemt system (BMS). Thus, a collective error message can be issued in the case of a system failure. RESOL AM1 Alarm module Article.: VBus / USB interface adapter The new VBus / USB interface adapter is the interface betwe the controller and a personal computer. With its standard mini-usb port it ables a fast transmission of system data via the VBus for processing, visualizing and archiving. A full version of the RESOL ServiceCter software is included.
