9 Key Characteristics of the Thermal Interface LLE is typically Self-cooling Temperature of the LLE is measured in a test fixture (t p,normal ) LLE has a rated t p,max with guaranteed photometric output. t p,headroom = t p,max t p,normal Test fixture is used to determine t p,headroom The value of the thermal headroom can be used by the Luminaire manufacturer to determine the measures that are required for thermal compatibility: - Thermally tolerant LLEs have a t p,headroom 20 C - Thermally demanding LLEs have a t p,headroom < 20 C 9

10 How to determine if an existing LLE can be exchanged by a new LLE? Verify that the new LLE mechanically fits in the Luminaire (LED Module and ECG) Verify that the new LLE has the desired photometric properties (luminous flux, color temperature CCT & color rendering CRI) Verify that the new LLE thermally fits in the Luminaire: t p,headroom of new LLE t p,headroom of existing LLE 10

13 How to obtain the Zhaga logo? Products must be tested, by an Authorized Test Lab, to verify compliance with the Zhaga Book 7 specification If the product passes all tests, the Authorized Test Lab delivers: A test report A test report summary The manufacturer submits the test report summary to the Zhaga Logo License Administrator The Logo License Administrator certifies the product if the test report summary is correct. The product is published in the Certified Product Database See 13

16 Full interchangeability Zhaga has decided that it will aim to enable LED modules and LED drivers that are independently interchangeable. This is in addition to Zhaga s stated aim to enable interchangeability of LED light engines (LLEs). For LLEs comprising LED modules and separate drivers, it will become possible to interchange LED modules from different suppliers without also using a different driver, or vice versa. 16

21 Zhaga recognizes need for change Zhaga is responding to the market need for modules and drivers that are independently interchangeable. Future editions of Zhaga Books will, where appropriate, reference relevant specifications that define the module-driver electrical interface. In the four years since Zhaga was formed, technical solutions have emerged that make it possible to define module-driver interfaces for specific application segments without limiting the innovation in LED module and driver technology. 21
