This symbol is used preceding all UTION (a general safety reminder), WRNING (denotes a potential hazard), and NGER (denotes a potential injury) notices! Most farm accidents, like industrial, home, and highway accidents are caused by the failure of some individuals to observe simple and fundamental safety rules or precautions. For this reason, farm accidents, just as other types of accidents, can be prevented by recognising the causes of accidents and doing something about them before an accident occurs. Regardless of the care used in the design and construction of farm equipment, there are many points that cannot be completely safeguarded without interfering with accessibility and efficient operation. REFUL OPERTOR IS THE EST INSURNE GINST N IENT The complete observance of one simple rule would prevent many thousand serious injuries each year. 8 PREFE The Roto-Pac is designed to handle a variety of feed materials and to press these feeds into a plastic tube, extruding air (oxygen) from the feed, and producing an ideal storage environment for fermentation with minimal loss during storage. efore going into the mechanics of setting up and operating the Roto-Pac, there are a few key principles every bagger operator and feeder should know:. The better the quality of material going in, the better the quality will be coming out. The system will not increase the quality of the crop, but will store it with minimal loss and provide the atmosphere for an ideal ferment.. The stage of maturity and the moisture level of the feed harvested will affect the quality of the ferment. The proper stage of maturity will depend on the type of feed being bagged and the type of livestock to be fed. However, the moisture level to obtain a good ferment is normally % to % for most feed materials.. The contents of the bag can and must be tested after fermentation so that the feed ration can be balanced and the proper supplementation determined in advance. SUMMRY: The Roto-Pac is only one part of your feeding operation which consists of:. Selection and growth of the feed material.. Harvest of the crop material.. Storage of the feed material (Roto-Pac).. Removal of the feed from its storage.. Mixing and distributing the feed material. are and attention must be paid to every aspect of your feeding program. The Roto-Pac is only one part of your feeding program. If any part of your feeding program is not properly managed, the entire system suffers, no matter how well the other aspects are managed. The entire system must be properly managed to enhance production and profit by doing the following:. Growing a quality crop, specifically selected for the livestock to be fed.. Harvest at the proper stage of maturity.. Store the feed material in a way to allow fermentation with little loss.. Remove material from storage, keeping the storage site clean and neat.. Test the feeds and mix in a balanced ration with proper supplementation.

SET-UP N OPERTION OF THE ROTO-P Upon delivery, the Roto-Pac has been factory serviced. The gearboxes contain the proper type and amount of oil. The bearings are properly lubricated and need no immediate service. Upon arrival to your bagging destination, position your machine in the direction you wish to begin bagging. (Some operators lay a string line to follow as they bag.). Unhook the truck or towing vehicle from the road position tow bar.. Start the engine and leave at a low idle. (UTION! LWYS STRT THE ENGINE WITH THE LUTH FULLY ISENGGE!!). Lower the feed conveyor to the ground.. Turn the wheels from the road position to the bag position. (It may be necessary to apply some brake pressure to prevent the Roto-Pac from rolling downhill.). With the conveyor down on the ground and the wheels turned, raise the conveyor sides and put them into place. lways start bagging with your wheels in a straight forward position.. The bagger should now be ready for operation. s a pre-caution, always walk around your machine and check for anything that may be out of place or anything that may need to be serviced. G SITE Special attention must be paid to the selection and preparation of the bag site. poor bag site can quickly reduce the amount of feed stored in the bag, the quality of the feed from the bag, and the ease of feed removal from the bag. Select a bag site that is fairly level, dry, and with good drainage. Smooth, level ground will produce a bag with fewer wrinkles and folds, thus increasing the tonnage per bag. Smooth, level ground also makes removal of the feed much easier because there are no dips or hills which make it difficult to skim the feed off the bottom of the bag. The Roto-Pac performs best on a dry hard surface to prevent the wheels from slipping or sinking. dry, hard surface makes it much easier to remove the feed and minimizes rainwater and mud from mixing with the feed. Look at the Roto-Pac bagger as a tractor, car, or any other moving vehicle. The horizontal conveyor is in the front. The tunnel is in the rear. The transport tow bar is on the right side, and the engine is on the left side. When laying out a bag site, bag in the direction and on the side of the lot so that the delivery trucks are always on the clear side, not next to the previously filled bag. llow adequate distance between the bags so that there is room to move easily between the bags to clean up, inspect the bags, test the contents, and keep clearance so that the unloader won't hit one bag while feeding from another. WRNING: lways shut off power source, secure wheels with blocks, remove the key, and wait for all motion to stop before attempting to adjust, lubricate, service or setup this machine!! G INSTLLTION Fold down bag pan arms. Place the bag box at rear of tunnel. Look for instructions on the box as to where to place it. (the first layer of plastic is first pulled from the inside edge fold) heck bag for red "pull this leading edge sticker." Remove top of box and discard. (Some operators tear the box up and place it under the brake assist inside the bag. This prevents the brake assist from tearing the bag when beginning to fill the bag.) Lay bottom of box flat and slide out from under the bag.

Unfold bag from side to side and lay it out flat behind the tunnel. onnect the cable from the boom to the bag lift. Winch the bag lift off the tunnel and swing it out, and lower it to just in front of where the bag is laid out. Lift the upper section of the bag on to the bag lift. Winch the bag lift up and return it to its original position. Work bag around lower corners of tunnel and place lower section of bag onto bag pan. Push the bag forward, sliding it into the bag pan. Remove remaining ties after the bag has been put into proper place. Raise bag pan and adjust to about one eighth inch clearance between the edge of the pan and bottom of floor. Tie bungee cord from link welded to pipe, over the tunnel, to link on the opposite side. Pull tight and tie off. Select proper length of cable and brake assist. Thread through the front of the tunnel and secure to clamp ends on the Roto-Pac. Pull back into the bag to remove slack from cable. (Place a piece of the cardboard under the brake assist to avoid tearing the bag.) Pull enough plastic out to seal the open end of the bag. The bag can be sealed by either folding up the open end and using the supplied rope or wrapping the end of the bag around Xs as shown in Figure. Figure. Using Xs and nails to seal end of bag. e sure to angle the nails to prevent the boards from separating.

RKING Setting the brakes is a judgmental decision. The setting will vary with slope, surface hardness, type of feed, moisture of feed, and desired compaction. The internal brake assist can be configured to vary its braking force. It should be configured according to the material being bagged and the desired compaction before beginning to bag. Figure shows the possible configurations for the brake assist. Generally, braking force increases in order from setting # to setting #. Thus, settings - should normally be used with grasses while settings - should normally be used with corn silage or grains. Figure. rake assist configuration settings. raking force can also be adjusted by changing how far back in the bag the brake assist is towed. The further back the brake assist is towed inside the bag, the more braking force it provides. Extensions included with your Roto-Pac can be used to vary how far back the brake assist is towed. Keep in mind that brake settings can vary widely depending on a number of factors. Try to set the brakes on the Roto-Pac such that the wheel brakes can be kept below maximum pressure to allow room for adjustment and ability to steer the Roto-Pac. The suggestions listed in this manual are starting points only. When starting a bag, set the wheel brake pressures around psi to keep the machine from rolling. s the bag fills and enough material is in the bag, the brake pressure can be adjusted to the final compaction setting. e careful not to set the brakes too high too quickly which may cause the bag to simply be pushed backwards instead of pushing the Roto-Pac forward. This can rip and tear the bag. The feed will expand as it leaves the tunnel and should be allowed to swell no more than bag manufacturer recommendations. (NOTE: The tunnel extension, if used, can alter the amount of bag expansion that occurs.) NOTE: The Roto-Pac can burst the bag! arefully monitor the stretch in the bag to ensure that it does not exceed the bag manufacturer s recommendations. The wheel brakes can be used to control the direction of the Roto-Pac as well. Increase the brake pressure of the side you want to turn toward and/or reduce the pressure of the side you want to turn away from. (It is not advised to make large direction changes while filling the bag as this can cause air pockets and bunching of the bag).

GGING WITH THE ROTO-P NGER: NEVER LIM INTO OR ON THE ROTO-P WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING. THE OPERTOR S PLTFORM IS THE ONLY LLOWLE LOTION FOR NY PERSON WHILE THE ROTO-P IS RUNNING The conveyor is designed so that it is low enough to accept most truck boxes and hoists. Some trucks are different and have very low sills when the box is hoisted. heck your truck to make sure that the sills or box do not hook the bagger or conveyor chains. The conveyor is widened at the lower end so that the normal.' wide truck box will not rub on the sides. However it is always essential to make sure that the truck lines up straight with the bagger conveyor and sides. Either before or while the truck begins unloading feed on the conveyor, with the engine at low idle, engage the clutch by holding the clutch switch in the engage position until the clutch actuator is fully retracted. Then, release the switch, allowing it to return to its center position. When the switch is released, the clutch actuator will automatically extend about ½. This is normal and required to release the pressure on the clutch s throw-out bearing. MKE SURE THT THE LUTH TUTOR IS FULLY RETRTE OR EXTENE EFORE RELESING THE SWITH! Serious damage to the clutch could occur if the clutch is not properly engaged or disengaged. Feeding Tips:. Maintain an even, full flow of material to the rotor.. Stop the horizontal conveyor when the unloading truck is empty, and leave the conveyor full until the next truck begins to unload. llow the rotor to empty, then disengage the clutch.. djust the conveyor variable speed to allow a full rotor, with the vertical conveyor guiding the material downward. O NOT OPERTE TOO FST!!! Excess conveyor speed can reduce capacity and promote unnecessary wear and tear.. losely monitor the position of the unloading truck. s the bag fills and the Roto-Pac moves forward, the truck will need to move forward as well. The Roto-Pac engine can be turned off for short periods of time with the Hydraulic Power switch on to retain pressure in the wheel brakes. Eventually, however, the brake pressure will bleed off or the battery can drain. If the Roto-Pac is to be idle with the engine off for an extended period of time (at night for instance), rotate the wheels to the transport position before shutting down. This will prevent the Roto-Pac from moving forward while it is unattended. G REMOVL Some bags have a mark near the end to indicate that it is time to move the machine off of the bag. If the bag is not marked, stop filling when there are three to four full folds of bag remaining on the tunnel. First, release one end of the brake assist cable from the cable latch on the right side of the machine. This is done by flipping the locking lever up and hitting the end of the latch with a heavy object such as a hammer (See Figure ). UTION: RELESING THE LE LTH N USE THE MHINE TO SUENLY MOVE FORWR. MKE ERTIN NO ONE OR NOTHING IS IN FRONT OF THE MHINE WHEN RELESING THE LTH!

Figure. Releasing the cable latch. Next, release the pressure from the brakes by turning the brake switch off. UTION: RELESING RKE PRESSURE N USE THE MHINE TO SUENLY MOVE FORWR. MKE ERTIN NO ONE OR NOTHING IS IN FRONT OF THE MHINE WHEN RELESING THE RKES! Hook a tractor or other pulling vehicle to the hitch located on the front left corner of the horizontal feed conveyor. Engage the rotor as the Roto-Pac moves ahead slowly to give the feed time to drop out of the tunnel and to avoid forming a vacuum that will suck the bag in tight against the tunnel and possibly cause tearing of the plastic. Open the tunnel cleanout door (if so equipped). t the same time, pull the Roto-Pac away from the bag. Move to the next bag location. There are many ways to seal the open end of the bag. Here are methods of doing so:. Folding the ends together and wrapping several times around a x and then nail another x over the wraps.(see Figure.). The end can be closed off by folding the end of the bag and covering the end with dirt. (See Figure ). FULL G FOL OVER N OVER WITH IRT Figure. Sealing a full bag with dirt. If the bag swells from gas build-up, it may be necessary to vent the bag, usually for - hours. Place an X made of the tape provided with the bag, and slit the bag in the center of the X with a knife. fter venting, place tape over the slit to reseal the bag. It may be necessary to place a hole every of bag length. 9

Hydraulic Manual Overrides In the event of a malfunctioning electrical system, certain functions on Roto-Pac are equipped with a manual override in order to be able to operate those functions manually without electrical power. The three functions equipped with a manual override are as follows:. Front wheel lift. Rear wheel steer. Feed conveyor lift These functions allow limited use of the Roto-Pac so that, in the event of an electrical failure, it can be moved to a suitable location for repair. The manual overrides are not intended as a permanent means of operating the Roto-Pac. To use the manual override functions, first remove the valve cover located between the operator platform and the engine to gain access to the hydraulic valves. The valves with a manual override have a small black knob above the valve coils. See Figure 9 to locate the desired function. To operate the manual override, push or pull on the knob to activate the function while at the same time, pushing the override on the ump Valve solenoid (a pliers may be needed to pull the overrides with sufficient force). Figure. Top view of the hydraulic valve manifold showing the manual override locations. 9

ROTO-P ESIGN PRINIPLES The Roto-Pac is designed to:. Provide uniform distribution and compression of the feedstuffs. Provide a safe "user friendly" machine that reduces labor and fuel input The crop is unloaded onto the horizontal conveyor, which carries it to the rotor where it is guided by a vertical conveyor, distributing the feed to the rotor and preventing the material from bridging above the rotor. The horizontal conveyor is driven hydraulically. This allows the conveyor to be run at a variable speed to best suit the type of feed and the load entering the rotor. lso it can be momentarily reversed if conveyor is overloaded. The "full width" rotor is turning slowly and under tremendous torque. The teeth on the rotor are so arranged that they press on the feed mass uniformly and move it into and up the forming chamber, compressing and extruding air from the feed in the process. The forming chamber, or tunnel, is a full inches long, so that the packed feed mass is formed within the machine. The folded bag is installed around the tunnel, and a bungee cord keeps the bulk of the bag in place as a single bag layer is pulled out as the machine moves forward. The bag-pan is suspended underneath the floor of the tunnel. The bag pan supports the bottom of the bag and ensures that the bottom of the bag is pulled away smoothly. It is very important to keep the bag pan clean and free of any mud, dirt or other possible contamination. The Roto-Pac braking system limits the forward movement of the machine, controlling how tightly feed is packed into the bag and, thus, how much the bag stretches. The Roto-Pac braking system consists of two separate braking methods. The first is the internal brake assist. It consists of a configurable cross-shaped plate that is pulled through the bag by two cables attached to the Roto-Pac. The braking force of the internal brake assist can be increased by adding extensions to the cable ends. The second part of the Roto-Pac braking system is the wheel brakes. The Roto-Pac utilizes brakes at each wheel to act as a fine tune adjustment over the internal brake assist assembly and to provide a means of steering the machine. The brake pressure for the wheels on the left and right side of the machine are controlled independently, allowing the Roto-Pac to be steered by increasing or decreasing the brake pressure relative to the other side.

O'S N ON'TS O Keep all shields in place. Ride only on the operator s platform when the engine is running. Keep bag area clean and well drained. Keep chopper knives sharp. Try to keep moisture level at to % moisture (packs better & ferments better). Keep wheels properly aligned. Keep children, pets, and livestock away from the Roto- Pac and the bags. Tape any holes in bags immediately. Test feed before feeding to properly balance the ration. lean and wash the Roto-Pac after bagging to prevent rust and corrosion. Make sure a clean, quality crop goes into the bag. Follow the manual recommendations for lubrication and maintenance. Follow the bag manufacturer s recommended bag stretch. Thoroughly clean the Roto-Pac when storing it for long periods of time to prevent rust and corrosion. ON T o not operate without shields in place. Never climb in or on the Roto-Pac with the engine running. o not allow weeds and rodents in bag area. o not chop with dull knives (which rupture plant cells). o not chop below 0% moisture. o no make curved bags. Never allow children or passengers on the Roto-Pac. o not allow holes to go unsealed. o not feed bagged forage without testing and properly balancing the ration. o not leave feed sitting in the Roto-Pac for extended periods to prevent rust and corrosion. o not put feed containing dirt in bag. o not over grease bearings. o not over fill bag. The bag may burst, spilling and exposing the feed to the air. o not leave bags on the Roto-Pac for long periods of time. Moisture may accumulate, causing rust, and rodents may eat holes in the bag.
