1 Crop: Type: Request for Support for Registration of SR420 Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) Spring, Six-Row, Hulled, Malting Proposers: Test # s: Pedigree: B. Harvey, B. Rossnagel, and T. Zatorski Department of Plant Sciences University of Saskatchewan 51 Campus Drive Saskatoon, SK. S7N 5A8 SR420 or SM04175 SM99748 x SM99153 Area of Adaptation: Western Canada Strengths: 3% higher grain yield than Excel and Legacy. Stronger strawed than malting checks. Higher test weight and kernel weight. Grain protein lower than Excel and Legacy. Neutral traits: Similar maturity to the malting checks. Grain plumpness. Malting profile similar to malt checks. Spot blotch resistance. Negative traits: Similar disease resistance to the malting checks. Description: SR420 is a white aleurone six-rowed malting barley. It has out yielded the malting checks, Legacy and Excel, in both 2006 and 2007 and is stronger strawed. SR420 has good kernel physical characteristics being similar to the malting checks for kernel plumpness but has higher test and kernel weight. Its disease resistance is similar to the malting checks. SR 420 has good overall malting quality similar to Excel and Legacy. Department of Plant Sciences, University of Saskatchewan 51 Campus Drive, Saskatoon SK S7N 5A8 Telephone: (306) Facsimile: (306)
