4 Exterior Design Style and function working perfectly together Improved exterior styling can also mean improved quality and function. We updated the bumper design and added newly developed low rolling resistance tyres to reduce air resistance and improve fuel economy. We also added a matte black mesh grille and a rear combination light with a red lens to accentuate the curved exterior and keep you highly visible at all times. 15 Interior Details Further everyday With an innovative i-vtec engine in 1.2 or 1.4 litre capacities, the Jazz promises lively performance across all engines and perfectly combines fuel economy and low emissions with driving pleasure. A choice of conventional 5-speed manual or advanced automatic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) gives you the options to suit your preferred style of driving. Safety The innovative automatic CVT technology adjusts according to your driving style, seamlessly changing the final drive ratio to ensure the optimum engine output for your chosen speed, giving you a smooth and comfortable drive. While all Jazz models are engineered for good fuel economy, the Jazz 1.2 i-vtec SE-i is our most eco-friendly Jazz ever. Options Equipped with advanced Idle Stop technology, the engine automatically stops running when when the car is stationary, in traffic for example. This reduces fuel consumption and emissions in urban driving and yet interior functions such as climate control and sound system remain switched on. 16 Performance Engineered for your safety Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) The 42% high tensile steel body structure dispenses energy across the frame and away from those in and around the car. A key focus in the design of the Jazz is the safety of those inside and out. The protection of passengers and pedestrians is paramount in the engineering of the body structure, technology systems and interior features. The Jazz has been rated one of the safest cars in Europe, according to the independent crash testing results from Euro NCAP and has been awarded the maximum 5 star rating. Options In addition to the safety features seen here, the Jazz also comes with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) brakes, Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) working in conjunction with ABS to help maintain directional stability, and Brake Assist (BA) which boosts braking power in an emergency. Potential range is calculated using a combined cycle. Results will vary according to driving conditions. Maximum towing weights are based on the ability of the car, with two occupants of 75kg each, to restart on a 12% gradient at sea level. 30 01 ADVANCED COMPATIBILITY ENGINEERING (ACE) Jazz has been designed with an innovative frame structure engineered to reduce the concentrated frontal force on occupants in front end impacts. Jazz s Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) design disperses and absorbs crash energy over a larger area, enhancing the preservation of the cabin space and improving safety for all occupants. Additionally, ACE also helps to reduce misalignment with vehicles of different sizes; the design of Jazz s structure reduces impact forces acting upon other vehicles. 02 ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM (ABS) ABS prevents the wheels from locking when the brakes are applied in an emergency, reducing the possibility of a skid on wet, icy or loose surfaces, and enabling the driver to retain steering control. 03 CO 2 Carbon dioxide is one of the exhaust gases believed to be one of the causes of the Green House Effect. Therefore, the lower the CO 2 emissions, the better it is for the environment. 04 ELECTRIC POWER STEERING (EPS) An electric motor assists steering instead of hydraulics. It runs off the battery, not engine, so helps to reduce emissions and fuel consumption. 05 ELECTRONIC BRAKE-FORCE DISTRIBUTION (EBD) This works in tandem with ABS, analysing weight distribution around the car and automatically adjusting the braking force applied to front and rear wheels to help maintain directional stability. 06 FUEL CONSUMPTION The figures for the fuel consumption and CO 2 emissions are to give you an indication of the car s performance. Following legislation by the VCA (Vehicle Certification Agency), all car manufacturers generate these statistics through the same industry standard test. This allows comparison across all manufacturers and models. The tests use a standard version of the model and do not take into account optional levels of equipment, such as different sized wheels, tyres and other factors that can affect the economy of the model. The test is on a rolling road and there is no additional weight in the car other than the driver (no passengers or cargo) and it does not account for individual driving style, which can mean a difference to the figures achievable in the real world. 07 CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (CVT) Selects the best drive ratio to keep the engine in its most efficient power range. This delivers the optimum fuel economy and ensures that the most efficient drive ratio is always selected. This promotes better fuel economy, lower emissions and an exceptionally smooth ride. 08 VEHICLE STABILITY ASSIST (VSA) VSA helps keep the Jazz on course in adverse driving conditions by detecting and correcting potential understeer or oversteer. The system continually monitors vehicle speed, throttle position, individual wheel speeds, steering angle, lateral G-force and yaw rate to detect when oversteer or understeer is imminent. When necessary, VSA automatically reduces the engine s torque and uses the ABS system to apply brakes to each wheel, as needed, to help stabilise the vehicle. The response is so quick that the instability may be corrected before the driver even knows it s occurring. 09 i-vtec The combination of VTEC and VTC for improved engine performance, fuel economy and emissions. 10 VTEC (VARIABLE VALVE TIMING AND LIFT ELECTRONIC CONTROL) Varies the amount of valve lift and the duration of valve opening during the intake stroke of each engine cylinder. The effect is optimised combustion over changing engine speeds, with the result of reduced fuel consumption and emissions as well as increased engine performance.
