11 FLUIDS WARNING The Spyder roadster is a different type of vehicle - it requires special skills and knowledge. Learn how the Spyder roadster is different. Read the operator's guide (in the front storage compartment) and watch the safety video. Complete a training course (if available), practice, become proficient with the controls, and get a proper license. Referer to the Safety Card before riding. Always wear a helmet and riding gear. With this type of vehicle, riders are exposed to more road risks than in a car. Even skilled operators can be struck by other vehicles or lose control. This vehicle will not protect you in a crash. Handling limits and road conditions The Vehicle Stability System (VSS) cannot stop you from losing control, flipping over, or falling off if you exceed this vehicle s limits. Know the limits for different road conditions. Do not ride on ice, snow, or off road. Avoid puddles and running water. This type of vehicle can hydroplane on water and slip on gravel, dirt and sand covered roads. If you must go through these road conditions, slow down This hangtag may only be removed by the customer Safety Labels Installing the Safety Labels (according to the official language of the country, province or state) This vehicle comes with safety labels containing important safety information. The safety labels are considered permanent parts of the vehicle and should not be removed. Any person who rides this vehicle should read and understand all the information given on safety labels before riding. Safety labels of several language can be chosen by customer, according to availability. 1. Install decals on vehicle according to the official language of the country, province or state. 2. Ensure that the new decals are installed at the same location and over the factory installed decals. Licence Plate Installing the Licence Plate 1. Install accessories (if any) as per their installation instructions (included in each kit). 2. Install any other equipment required by law (if any). FLUIDS All fluids (except fuel) have already been filled at factory. However, if refill is needed, refer to the appropriate SPYDER ROADSTER SHOP MANUAL for the proper procedure. Fuel WARNING Never top off the fuel tank before placing the vehicle in a warm area. As temperature increases, fuel expands and may overflow. Fuel is flammable and explosive under certain conditions. Always wipe off any fuel or oil spillage from the vehicle. Recommended Fuel Use premium unleaded gasoline with an AKI (RON+MON)/2 octane rating of 91, or an RON octane rating of 95. NOTICE Never experiment with other fuels. Engine or fuel system damages may occur with the use of an inadequate fuel. Inside North America Only NOTICE Do NOT use fuel from fuel pumps labeled E85. Use of fuel labeled E15 is prohibited by U.S. EPA Regulations. PREDELIVERY / 17

12 FLUIDS Clutch Fluid (SM6 Model) RecommendedClutchFluid Use DOT 4 brake fluid from a sealed container. An opened container may be contaminated or may have absorbed moisture from the air. Verifying the Clutch Fluid Level The clutch fluid reservoir is near the reverse button on the left handlebar. Check the clutch fluid level as follows: 1. Park the vehicle on a firm, level surface. 2. Set the handlebar straight in order to position the top of clutch fluid reservoir horizontally. 3. Wipe clean the cap area. 4. Unscrew cap retaining screws. 5. Carefully remove cap. Pay attention not to drop the cap seal. 6. Look inside the reservoir to see the fluid level. Check clutch fluid level inside the reservoir: The fluid must be flush to the fill level line (protuberance on the reservoir wall). Engine Coolant Recommended Coolant The cooling system can be filled with distilled water and antifreeze solution (50% distilled water, 50% antifreeze). NOTICE Always use ethylene-glycol antifreeze containing corrosion inhibitors specifically for internal combustion aluminum engines. For best performance, use the following recommended product. LONG LIFE ANTIFREEZE Finland, Norway and Sweden All Other Countries Verifying the Coolant Level WARNING Check coolant level with engine cold. 1. Park vehicle on a firm level surface. 2. Open the front storage compartment cover. 3. Pull out the service cover. 4. Check the coolant level on the right hand side. Coolant must be visible slightly above the COLD. level mark. rmo _a FLUID REMOVED FOR CLARITY PURPOSE 1. Minimum 2. Maximum 7. Add recommended fluid as required. Do not overfill. Immediately wipe up spills if neces- NOTICE sary. 8. Ensure that the seal located inside the cap is collapsed. 9. Reinstall the cap on the reservoir. 10. Tighten cap screws. 11. Wipe off reservoir if necessary. rbl _a 1. HOT level mark 2. COLD level mark Add coolant if required. Brake Fluid Recommended Fluid Use only DOT 4 brake fluid from a sealed container. An opened container may be contaminated or may have absorbed moisture from the air. 12 / PREDELIVERY

13 FLUIDS NOTICE To avoid serious damage to the braking system, do not use non-recommended fluids. Brake fluid can damage plastic and painted surface. Handle with care. Verifying the Brake Fluid Level 1. Park vehicle on a firm level surface. 2. Remove the RH lateral service cover. 3. Check brake fluid level in reservoir. Ensure that fluid is between the MAX. and the MIN. marks. rbl _a 1. Brake fluid MAX. level mark 2. Brake fluid MIN. level mark 4. If necessary, add recommended brake fluid. Engine Oil NOTICE The procedure for checking the engine oil level is different from most of the motor vehicles on the market. Strictly follow instructions provided in this section. Recommended Engine Oil The same oil is used for the engine, gearbox, clutch, and the Hydraulic Control Module (HCM) on the SE6 model. RECOMMENDED OIL XPS 4-STROKE SYNTH. BLEND OIL (SUMMER) (P/N ) If XPS oil is not available, use a 5W40 semi-synthetic (minimum) or synthetic motorcycle oil meeting the requirements for API service SN, SM, SL and SJ or higher classification. Always check the API service label on the oil container. NOTICE Do not add any oil additives to the recommended oil. This may lead to gearbox and clutch malfunctions. Verifying the Engine Oil Level NOTICE This Spyder F3 has a dry sump type lubrication system. To obtain a precise reading of the engine oil level, you must follow this procedure. 1. Take a ride of minimum 15 km (9.3 mi). 2. Park the vehicle on a level surface. 3. Let the engine run at idle for 10 minutes. NOTICE Alternative warm up procedure for the dealers workshop: If it is not possible to take a 15 km (9.3 mi) ride it is admissible to achieve the adequate engine oil temperature by running the engine at idle for minimum 35 minutes. NOTE: Running engine at idle as described will maintain the engine oil temperature between 80 C and 95 C (176 F and 203 F), and allow the scavenge oil pumps to drain the oil from the engine back into the oil tank. Not carrying out this step could result in overfilling the engine oil. NOTICE Perform engine oil level verification within 2 minutes after engine shutdown. 4. Stop engine. 5. Remove the RH lateral service panel. 6. Unscrew and remove the oil dipstick. rbl _a 1. Oil dipstick 7. Wipe off the dipstick. 8. Reinsert and completely screw in the dipstick. 9. Unscrew and remove the dipstick again. 10. Check the oil level on the dipstick. PREDELIVERY / 17

However, if an adjustment is needed, refer to the appropriate ROADSTER SHOP MAN- UAL for the proper procedure. Adjusting the Tire Pressure WARNING Low pressure may cause tire to deflate and rotate on wheel. Overpressure may burst the tire. Always follow recommended pressure. Doing All Recalls and All Other Modifications Requested by BRP Complete applicable recalls or factory-directed modifications. B.U.D.S. PROGRAMMING Diagnostic Connector Location The diagnostic connector is located beside the coolant reservoir. It is stored in its protective cap.
