2 Welcome to University Village at the University of Miami for the academic year. The information contained herein is intended to provide you with basic parking and transportation information for the University Village community & the University of Miami Coral Gables campus. For detailed information on the rules and regulations pertaining to parking on the Coral Gables campus, please be sure to obtain a copy of the University of Miami s Moving Vehicle Parking Code. In order to avoid fines, towing, and possible disciplinary action, all vehicles on the Coral Gables campus & in the University Village must adhere to the policies as published in the Code. Familiarity with, and attention to, the University's Moving Vehicle Parking Code is the most effective way of avoiding a parking citation. By virtue of a paper or electronic University of Miami parking permit application on file with Parking & Transportation Services, each student parking permit holder acknowledges familiarity with and understanding of the University s Moving Vehicle Parking Code (see and is understood to have entered into a contract with the University of Miami in which the student agrees to abide by the rules and policies contained therein. All vehicles in University Village must be registered with the University of Miami s Parking & Transportation Department, and are required to display a current and valid parking permit. University Village residents parking permit applications and parking permits are available through the Department of Residence Halls in the University Village Office until August 22 nd. After that date, permit may purchased by visiting the Parking & Transportation Department located at 5665 Ponce de Leon Boulevard, in the Flipse Building, adjacent to the Ponce de Leon Garage. Our hours of operations are Monday Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm Again, welcome to the University of Miami. We are committed to serving you. 3 FAQ s Who is required to have a parking permit? Each University Village resident must have a parking permit appropriate to their residency in University Village displayed on their vehicle at all times. Residents: The University Village resident parking permit allows parking in the University Village Albenga and Scodella Garages only. University Village parking permits are decals that must be affixed to the vehicle you register. Affix the decal to the exterior lower left corner of the rear window. Failure to do so may result in citations and fines. University Village residents are prohibited from purchasing any other University of Miami parking permit. Vehicles with University Village parking permits are prohibited from parking on the main Coral Gables campus between the hours of 8:00am & 4:00pm, Monday through Friday, regardless of whether a temporary day pass permit is displayed. Failure to comply may result in citations and fines. Vehicles with University Village parking permits are prohibited from parking in designated Resident student parking lots on the main Coral Gables campus 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Failure to comply may result in citations and fines. Vehicles with University Village parking permits are prohibited from UM metered parking, regardless of whether the meter is paid. Failure to comply may result in citations and fines. Any vehicle with a University Village parking permit found parked on the main Coral Gables campus with any temporary University of Miami parking permit or parked at a meter between the hours of 8:00am & 4pm Monday through Friday is subject to citation. Any vehicle with a University Village parking permit found parked on the main Coral Gables campus with any University of Miami standard or discount parking permit between the hours of 8:00am & 4pm Monday through Friday is subject to citation. All University Village residents are advised to be aware of all of the parking policies of the main Coral Gables campus & University Village. Copies of each are available on-line at 3

4 FAQ s What happens if I drive a different car? Advise the Department of Parking & Transportation. Regardlesss of what vehicle you may be driving at any given time, the rules and regulations governing your University Village decal apply. How do I get to class if I park in the University Village North or South Garage? The Hurry Cane Shuttle runs approximately every 6-8 minutes during the day. What happens if I sell my car? Remove your University Village decal from your vehicle, and return it to Parking and Transportation Department Register the new car with the Parking & Transportation Department and complete a new permit application for the new car. Am I allowed to park at a meter? No! Meters are for visitors and guests only. May I park in a loading zone to unload my vehicle? There are specific permits for loading zones and service areas on the Coral Gables campus. If you do not have one of these permits, you are not entitled to park your vehicle in a loading zone or service area at any time. Violators will be cited. What is a designated parking space? Parking spaces that have two white lines, a parking pre-cast, and/or other marking devices both temporary and permanent. Parking on campus is permitted only in designated parking spaces. Absence of a no parking sign does not authorize parking. May I lend/give my permit to someone else? No! Permits are non-transferable and are distributed in decal form only. What if my permit is lost or stolen? File a report with the Departmernt of Parking and Transportation immediately. Recovered permits must also be reported immediately. Do not use a recovered permit without first notifying Parking & Transportation. Use of a lost or stolen permit may result in a fine, tow (at owner/operator expense), and/or disciplinary action! What if I drive a motorcycle, motorbike, or moped to campus? University Village decals for 2-wheeled vehicles are identical to those distributed to 4- wheel vehicle owners. Parking is allowed only in areas designated for motorcycle parking. What if I move out of University Village prior to the expiration date printed on my UV parking decal? Remove your University Village decal from your vehicle, and return it to Parking & Transportation Department Failure to do so may result in citations and fine 4

5 Other Services Offered: Hurry Cane Shuttle The University provides the Hurry Cane Shuttle during the fall and spring semesters. The shuttle is available to all university students, faculty and staff, and serves most major campus buildings, parking lots and the University Metro Rail station. The shuttle system is designed so that shuttle buses consistently arrive at each station every6-8 minutes during class days and every 15 to 20 minutes all other times. Pick up a copy of the shuttle map for details on shuttle routes. Please see our web site ( for information regarding shuttle service to the Rosenstiel Campus and weekend services to Sunset Place, and Coconut Grove. Motorist Assistance Program The Motorist Assistance Program is designed to assist persons who experience minor vehicle problems while on the Coral Gables Campus, including University Village. While we are not mechanics, we can provide a jump start if your battery should fail or gain entrance into your locked vehicle. For assistance during fall and spring semesters contact the Department of Public Safety from any blue light phone on campus or by calling : Monday through Friday between 8:00am and 10:30pm. Vacation Parking Parking is provided at the University Village Albenga (North) & Scodella (South) Garages during winter and spring breaks. This service is available free of charge to all University Village parking permit holders. 5
