Yes, its October, and that means that Summer is over, and Fall has shifted into top gear. While our world is over-taken by politics and over-seas foreign affairs, we must continue to toll away in order to make the money us "little guys" need to get by in the day to day world. Its easy to lose track of whats important in today's modern world, but as long as we keep our "eyes on the prize" we will keep pushing forward in the way only we can... UNIT PRICE: $ A constant problem in the M.P.I. field that will always be a nasty thorn in the side of any N.D.T. operation, is the condition of the bath that is being used to test parts. Whether it be an oil-based bath, or a water-based system, if your testing parts with a corrupted bath you are simply wasting your time.

2 Protect Your Coil with the Magwerks Coil Guard If you have a machine that uses an aluminum frame aircore coil (which about 85% of machines do) then you will notice that wear and tear over time damages the coil frame until the coil becomes unusable. To help fight this, Magwerks has created a simple and sturdy coil guard to protect your coil from the impact of placing parts into your machine coil. This Guard is made from Stainless steel, and a replaceable UV resistant plastic to provide long lasting protection for your machine coil. After all, wouldn't you rather pay $225 to protect your coil, or over $1,800 - $2,500 to replace the coil once it has been damaged. Coil Guards are fit to the specific size of the coil in question. In order to receive the correct guard, your coil size MUST be indicated on the P.O. When bath fluid becomes contaminated it is best practice to completely drain, flush, and refill the machine with fresh product. "But when do I know when its a good time to do this?" you may ask.. Well, depending on the bath type, the answer of that question will be different. Oil-based bath systems are pretty resistant to the effects of outside corruption. An oil-based bath is a simple combination of a oil-based carrier mixed with florescent iron-oxide particle. With a much simpler chemistry than water-based systems, Oil baths are less prone to being ruined by the contamination from outside sources. With oil-based baths if the solid contamination in the bath sample test exceeds 30% (as per ASTM-E1444M-11) the oil based bath must be replaced. Another indication that your oil based bath is in need of replacement, is when the carrier in the settled bath sample is cloudy and non-transparent. If you keep your eyes on those two aspects of your oil-based bath you should be able to keep your bath in working order. Water-based systems are MUCH more complicated in their maintenance. Water-based baths have a complicated chemistry, and once this chemistry is "out-of-whack" the bath is to be corrected (if your personnel have the means and the knowledge to "correct" the issue) or flushed and re-filled. Much like the oil-based system, the water-based bath is allowed up to a 30% solid contamination before replacement is required. However, the carrier fluid itself must be tested as well. Water Break tests are required daily in order to determine the condition of the baths wetting agents (shown Below). The desired outcome of this test is a good coating of the part, without the bath "beading off" of the part like water would on a freshly waxed car.. Magwerks Price: $ Anti-foaming agents are also present in a water-based bath. If your bath starts to foam up like there is dish detergent in it, then the antifoaming agent has thinned out and is no longer effective. Anticorrosion agents are part of the chemistry as well. So if you notice your parts beginning to rust after testing, then this should be called into question as well. With the low-cost of water-based bath premixes, most people chose to replace bad baths, rather than correcting individual aspects of the chemistry.

3 If you keep all of these things in mind, you can keep up with your bath degradation and reduce the risk of your parts being tested incorrectly. After all, if your not going to do it right, what s the point in doing it at all?? 400W Blacklight Positioning Do's and Don'ts The Magwerks 400W UB400SAV-2 has been a leading high-output UV Inspection system for the past few years, but what many people are not aware of is positioning of this light head, can drastically affect your systems Arc Tube Life. At roughly $140 per arc tube, careless use of your 400W system can lead to constant tube replacement. But with a touch of proper knowledge, and an observant operator, you can get the full life out of each arc tube. Arc tubes (unlike standard incandescent bulbs) have no filament. These devices are called "arc tubes" because an electrical arc is fired at high voltage between two electrodes enclosed inside the "bulb" that interacts with the contents of the arc tube (typically a gas mixed with Mercury Halide) to sustain a stable arc which produces the UV light. What many people are not aware of, is that this arc is designed to operate on a horizontal plane. If this arc tube is placed at an angle, the arc tube will experience un-due stress leading to per-mature arc tube failure.
